Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock music, but their musical style has changed over the course of its existence.
Legendary live performances, archive documentaries, official promo videos, rare interviews & more - follow the band through their incredible career spanning seven decades, many differing line ups, and a wealth of genres but all unmistakably ‘Purple’: Psychedelic rock, Progressive rock, Hard rock, even proto-Metal - Deep Purple were the Worlds Loudest Band in 1975 and haven’t let up since, selling over 100 million albums to date and keeping fans ‘In Rock’ in every possible way since 1968.
Inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame in 2016 and voted one of the ‘most influential bands ever’, Purple are still rocking and making music as relevant as 50 years ago - they are made of the stuff that most other bands can only dream of.
“Very few people our age can still be 16 yr old kids for 2 hours a night!” - Ian Paice

Great driving song whether you play the studio version or this live version. Made in Japan has to be one of the best live albums ever recorded. Truly captures the power of this band performing live. I had a Rickenbacker 4001 like Roger Glover played. Special ordered it because no one stocked it around where I lived. The music store was owned by my girlfriend's parents. Even with the employee discount they gave me it was $700 US in 1972, which was a lot of money. I loved that bass. BTW, I told Elizabeth she should do some Made in Japan. Child in Time would be an incredible song for her to react to.
Agreed Thankies Elgon 🖤👌
“ Strange Kind Of Woman” from this same album!! Oh yesssss. Please.
Yush 🤘🖤🤘
Best band ever , I am 62 and my first album was MADE IN JAPAN!

@@DashyXDAndDadReacts good 😜🤟🖤
What a "star" studded line up with Richie on guitar & Ian on lead vocals being the stand outs They were a high powered rock outfit in that early 70's era. What a supper group? What an era? What a time it must have been to b young & rockin? & What an incredible album "Made in Japan" was?
Whoop 🙌
oh god how i love the sound of a HAMMOND nothing in the world like it

According to Deep Purple bass player Roger Glover, the band wrote "Highway Star" on their tour bus on the way to a gig at the Portsmouth Guildhall (in the UK) on September 13, 1971, where they debuted the song. They were giving an interview on their tour bus and the interviewer asked how they came up with their music. Ritchie picked up his guitar and started playing a riff and Ian started improvising the words. They cleaned it up and played it that night in concert. Highway Star became their opener from that point on. The song evolved through live performances, and was recorded for the Machine Head album in December 1971.
Ritchie Blackmore's guitar solo on this track was ranked #15 on Guitar World magazine's 2008 list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos. In the issue, Blackmore explained how he did it: "I wrote that out note for note about a week before we recorded it. I wanted it to sound like someone driving in a fast car, for it to be one of those songs you would listen to while speeding. And I wanted a very definite Bach sound, which is why I wrote it out - and why I played those very rigid arpeggios across that very familiar Bach progression - Dm, Gm, Cmaj, Amaj."
Thanks mark 🖤🤘🖤
The original text from the journalist in New Musical Express September 18 1971: ""On the coach on the way down from London, Ian Gillan asked for suggestions for titles for a rock number. Roger Glover suggested Highway Star and Ian set to writing it. It was finished during rehearsals and performed for the first time three hours later".
@@Snakehead1964 Wow, same reply you left to my comment with Sarah Dengler doing Highway Star react
@@metalmark1214 Maybe, cause it is the only info about that event that I found in old newspapers
I saw Purple live in '72 - my ears are still ringing! 😄
Whoop 🙌🖤
I'm 62 and my first album was In Rock back in 1971
The best hard rock band all time
Definitely 🔥
great reaction , the young need to be introduced to this music . purple, led zep. black sabbath , pink floyd as they dont have any real inspirational music going on today , real music real instruments fabtastic . Love the reaction btw thanks
Thanks so much 🥰
The video is from Copenhagen Denmark in early 72 ( the whole concert is avaiable here on CZcams) but the audio is Made In Japan.
Awesome 😎
A very young Lars Ulrich had been a good boy and was rewarded with a ticket to that show in K.B Hallen in Copenhagen.
I remember this from years ago. Great track 👍🏽
Whoop 🙌🖤
The greatest live lp of all time Deep Purple made in japan.
Definitely 🔥
I must have missed this reaction, These live recordings are legendary!
No worries! Thankies so much 🤘🎄🤘
The best band line-up ever..

Enormissime mon groupe préféré 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hi kids, Awesome track Awesome band oh how i miss my early teens & yes dad they were the loudest band in the world at that time.

MADE IN JAPAN ES EL SANTO GRAL DEL ROCK!!!! INSANO!!❤❤

That's actually Mark 2! I saw them twice when they reformed back in 1982 for the Perfect strangers album and twice again for the House of Blue Light album. They opened the concerts with Highway Star. It was basically the Made In Japan album with the newer songs. I couldn't hear for days after each show! Loved it!!!
Whoop 🙌
beautiful, thank you
Thank you too! 🥰
Yeaaass 🤟🤟🖤🖤 been waiting for this song 🎵 brilliant album a classic 👌 👏 🙌
It is 🖤🙌🖤
I relate to and agree with everything dad said.
Thankies 🥰🤘🤘
That was actually Mark 2! Mark 1 had Rod Evan on Vocal and Nick Simper on bass.
Awesome 😎
Rod Evens went on to form a band called Captain Beyond in the seventies, and they were actually very good, in fact thier self titled debut album is great.
Wow, daddyo sounds just like him
Whoop 🙌
I believe this was filmed in Denmark in 72 not Japan apparently there is no footage of the Japan concert around...
Whoop 🙌
Wow...memories! Ian Paice, and Highway Star in particular, were an influence on Band-Maid's drummer Akane 'Gorilla' Hirose. I know you saw her solo in 'Freedom' live video...any chance of more Maid Rock genre?? I'd recommend their 'Manners/Black Hole' Live video...showcases variety, a bluesy slow one...followed by...being crushed by the singularity :-)) [for the love of bass]
Thanks so much 🖤🥰🖤
All the best for you! (Ich bin eine Deutscher)
You too 🥰

Live, for me, there was this album and nothing else. They were 11 and everyone else was 7, or maybe 8, but the gap was that big! Studio? Zeppelin, hands down. But live? Deep Purple MK2 and this album in particular. After 50 years the opinion still stands.

Nicest cap! Go Buckeyes!!

Gracias por la reacción!! Son hermosos padre e hija 😊❤
The base of future metal music Deep Purple, led zeppelin and Black Sabbath... To Judas Priest True '70 first metal band Roger Glover in the 1976 pruduced Sin after sin lp.
Whoop 🙌🖤
He also produced Rainbow Elf with Dio Rory Gallagher and many more. I lost count that how good Roger Glover is a song writer producer top 10 rock bassist. Check out a lp he wrote called butterfly ball you be shocked 😲 how good it is.
I’m not completely sure, but i think that Razamataz with Nazareth was the first album he produced. I could be wrong.
Purple were at the top of their game here and could easily given Zeppelin a run for the money.
hehe ;) :P
Better live than dead Zeppelin I seen both in there big days. Purple always blew the doors of all bands live back then. You have to yourself like I did. Not that Zeppelin was a dog. Got to Black Sabbath also I'm their big days. I liked them better too live.
Great reaction guys, just one query though. I never knew they filmed the Japan '72 gigs (I feel terribly ignorant 😳) so I thought this was the footage from a show filmed for Danish tv (if I'm wrong my apologies, I haven't listened to MIJ for far too long...oops!) 😉😊
You're right, this footage is taken from the show in Copenhagen on the same tour as Made In Japan and edited for footage.
@@ninoorjon Cheers mate I wasn't certain. I had a vhs copy of the Danish gig years ago and the footage did look similar but the song did sound like the MIJ version so I was a tad confused 😉😊
No worries 😉 we didn’t know either haha XD and your spot on! 🖤🤘🖤

The audio is from the Made in Japan LP. The video is from Copenhagen, cut & spliced to fit the audio.

A Left-Hand-Girl? Nein, also doch nicht!
I love the Made in Japan and Europe albums. Unfortunately the problem with this particular video floating on CZcams is this: the video is the Denmark concert combined with the Japan music. Nice reaction though 😊
Thankies 🙌🖤
