I am new to Contemporary Romance genre this year (2024). But i have read 15 of them. I really love Christina Lauren's books - especially Love and Other Words and The Unhoneymooners. I also liked The Deal by Elle Kennedy (first book in a series), and loved Icebreaker by Hannah Grace (Wildfire is the second book and i am reading it right now.
I really liked The Seven Year Slip. I did not like The Beach read (I found the female main character both annoying super repetitive.. she acted like her world was ending every time the male character was quiet or he said something different or even just gave her a different look). The Beach Read was the first book i read by Emily Henry. I do have 2 more to try..

This is the book equivalent of fast fashion. What the heck. Only two minutes in and of the four books you showed us, two are special editions of the first two. This is just another case of overconsumption being glorified. We have real libraries if you want to be around a lot of books. You can check out a reasonably sized pile without spending hundreds of dollars and without cluttering your home.
Edit: I’m highly amused. You put something on the internet, you’re going to get opinions. And my opinion is that overconsumption is a problem in every community. If you don’t see it then you don’t see it. All I know is, my life (and wallet) were a whole lot happier when I realized this and become a more conscious consumer. My rule of thumb is to wait a month before buying something that can be classified as a “want.” If I still want it after a month then I will get it. If I only wanted it because it was trendy and/or I thought it would momentarily feel good, then I didn’t really want it. But that’s me. Take it as you will.

I really agree that this is overconsumption at it's finest & wonder why this comment isn't higher in the list. Also, why is there a rush to just fill a bookcase, why not take your time and curate your book case and get to know what you actually like, rather than blind buying 100 books..?

    • @beautiful.life1396
      @beautiful.life1396 Před měsícem +62

Debbie downer much? You too can reduce over consumption by only buying used items. So please stay out of the stores and buy nothing firsthand, otherwise you are just glorifying over consumption. And a friendly reminder… goods and services make the world go round; so if no one’s purchasing them, then no one‘s going to produce them.

I think a home library is a mixture of storage for your hobby and home decor. It’s no different than buying decor and art for your house. But in this case, the books serve a multipurpose because they are used. And anyone with a hobby likes to organize it or display it…for example, baseball cards, lego sets, art paintings, etc. Readers enjoy reading their favorites multiple times. You live only once; if books in your home make you happy, then that’s what you should buy. You can’t take money to the grave with you.

First of all, sure you can buy books all you want, no problem.
But I wonder: Are you buying them just to fill your shelves, or are you genuinely interested in reading all of them?
Most of us have at most 10 new unread books at home (according to our TBR), which are going to be read after finishing the current book. Depending on our mood after finishing the current book, we choose one of these 10 books accordingly. Therefore the variety of 10 different books (at most!). Although 10 are plenty, 5 or even 1 are also more than enough.
But 100+ books kind of make it seem you buy them for "aestetics" only.
Which definitely defeats the purpose of reading at all.
Anyway if you are really capable of reading a book a day, then go for it.
Finishing 100 books seems like a tough goal. Deactivate your social media to stay focused and get into the reading marathon you planned for yourself regarding these books. Keep reading!

    • @raelol1499
      @raelol1499 Před 5 dny +3

Obviously she’s actually interested in reading them if she just recently purchased them and has already finished so many of them, some within the span of just a couple days. Not to mention that the ones she hasn’t read yet, she’s researched enough to know that she WILL actually read them, it wasn’t an impulsive purchase, she researched them enough to know the plot/genres/tropes, which order to read them, and which people recommended them while comparing their preferences to hers. It isn’t overconsumption if you actually get genuine use out of all the items.

@@tabarekm Yea, but that’s if you finish the book. When reading something that you don’t enjoy it is going to be extremely hard to finish it and you most likely won’t finish it at all. As a reader I’ve done this time and time again, and that’s perfectly fine even normal. It takes time to find what books you like which is exactly why this is a waste. It’s not like she borrowed these books from a library. She bought them and if she reads them only once then that is a waste of money that could have been used elsewhere. Yes, while every book might teach you something not all of those lessons will be as valuable as you might think. It takes time to curate a library and find what books you like. No matter how much research you do on a book there is still no guarantee that you will like it. I thought that I would love IT by Stephen King, but I couldn’t even get through the entire book. We are not hating on what books she picks, but on the fact she bought so many books without reading really any of them. The only way you will know if you like a book is if you read it, and she probably didn’t read many of these before she bought them.

For lit-fic, contemporary, romance and/or as a subplot:
    - Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter (I rarely ever read YA romance so the fact that I gave this 5 stars, I love them so much).
    - I Fell In Love With Hope by Lancali (YA)
    - Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
    - The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab
    - Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler
    - Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors
    - I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
    For fantasy I'd recommend:
    - Strange the Dreamer duology by Laini Taylor
    - the Elements of Cadence duology, A River Enchanted and A Fire Endless, by Rebecca Ross (she also wrote Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows, the Letters of Enchantment)
    - Fear the Flames by Olivia Rose Darling
    - Tres of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Samderson
    - Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson
    - the Iron Widow duology by Xiran Jay Zhao
    - the Radiant Emperor duology, She Who Became the Sun and He Who Drowned the World, by Shelley Parker Chan
    - She Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh
    - the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden
I hope you've found one or two interesting! Happy reading! (:

-six of crows is just an amazingly written fantasy book
    - the shatter me series is very popular (aaron warner is everyone's book bf apparently lol)
    - you probably don't need anymore books anytime soon but I recommend:
    * divine rivals by rebecca ross
    * the housemaid series by freida mcfadden (if you want to get into the mystery-thriller genre)
    * a good girl's guide to murder series (same reason as above, super popular)

It's really perfect, especially book 3, The Kingpin of Camelot, loved it! Also, get Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood! It's one of her best!
The Made series is really good but you should get the Book 2 as well, it's the best book in the series, and it's the precursor to Book 3, so it will give you some additional background.

you should read the assassins blade first. I tried reading throne of glass first but I was so confused on who the main character is and I was confused by her personality. but then I tried reading the assassins blade first and it flowed SOOOO NICELY into the throne of glass book. reading the assassins blade first is the chronological order of the plot line and everything will flow better that way. reading it otherwise would count as a "flashback", since youre going to a time before what happened in throne of glass book.

I have been thinking for a long while tho to get the hardback editions in the dark cover since I like how they look, but unless they suddenly sell the small version of the third book, I will not know how to story progresses after book 2. SJM says that she would like people to read the Throne of Glass series in the ‘romantic’ order which is; Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, The Assassin’s Blade, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms (Tandem), Tower of Dawn (Tandem) & Kingdom of Ash. There are guides on the interwebs as to how to do the tandem read. A lot of people do like to read the ‘Chronological’ order by reading Assassins Blade first and some people like to read Assassins Blade last. Only you can really make the decision because people will never agree on the ‘best’ order.
