  • My Warn 424 equipped Wolverine 350. It's a 4 wheel to 2 wheel conversion kit.
    Unfortunately it is no sold anymore.There is another company (Wide Open Drive Shaft Switch Outs) selling a similar version of this kit for Honda quads that say their kit can be modified via cutting and welding for the Wolverine. I believe that statement but what a PITA!

    Id kill for a warn 424 kit. I have a 2000 wolverine, i swapped out the cv carb for the warrior carb. I snagged a chinese warrior carb with the cable actuated slide. Made an insane difference in power and throttle response. Paid 900 for it 2 or 3 years back in near mint condition. What a great machine. Goes through anything my 2020 modded can am will go through and i prefer to ride my 350 over the can am any day. Never left me stranded. Top ends shot, getting the big bore kit soon.

      Nice mods! I’ve read you can modify a Wide open style 424 kit for a Honda to fit the Wolverine. I believe it’s involved requiring cutting and welding but I remember reading posts about it years ago.
      I really like my 350 Wolverine. 😀

    They were great bikes my dad has one in very good condition there aren’t many left they got beat and destroyed even when new my father said there were so many beat to death they were tough bullet proof engine and transmission the clutches were a bit weak but they were a high speed clutch not a great bike with big wheels and plowing snow with them killed clutches too, shares the same engine as the yamaha 350 warrior another model of bike thats getting rare that were beat to death. Yeah the 4-2-4 switches are getting rare if you break a cable or anything like that its hard to get a replacement, Awesome vid take care of your wolverine it will take care of you!

      Thanks for the kind words and the info about the 424 cable, I was so happy when I found the one I bought off eBay something like 8 or 9 years ago. It’s sad to see machines get beat to death, particularly something desirable and it ends up in the hands of someone who doesn’t appreciate what they have but just bought it because it happened to be in their price range. I remember there used to be a bunch of 200X’s in my town and they all got thrashed and I don’t know of any that are left. Same with the Suzuki Quadrunners. Between ‘83 & ‘84 the local dealer sold 70 or 80 of them in our little town and hardly any are left in running condition. I’ll take care of my Wolverine, I still like it better than the stupid expensive, super big and heavy “sport” 4x4’s they offer today.

      Yes, Warn used to make them, it’s called a 424 kit. Unfortunately it went out of production years ago so I had to find my kit off eBay. Totally worth it as it made my Wolverine way more fun. Back when I was looking for one, they offered kits for the older Honda’s and still might. Some guys were buying those kits and modifying them by cutting the ends off and welding on new yokes that fit the Yamaha u-joints. That’s probably a reasonable mod if you have a driveline shop available.

    Cool video! Question.. I am interested in a Wolverine but i don’t want the full time 4WD. I know it sounds dumb but could I run it just fine by removing the front driveshaft? I don’t want 4WD but I love the looks, the semi auto, and the 4 stroke. I don’t want an auto Polaris. Thanks for any help.

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! Yes, you could just remove the front driveshaft to convert it into full time 2WD. The full time 4WD really takes the fun away from this quad. It’s one of the main reasons I sold my ‘96 Wolverine that I bought brand new. I got bored of it after a year and hated the grabby feeling front end on trails.
      I don’t know how reliable the new Polaris 4-wheelers are. But my brother had a ‘95 Polaris Scrambler at the same time as my ‘96 Wolverine and it was a complete junk show compared to the Yamaha. Like lawn and garden technology and I’m not even trying to be mean or exaggerate. I believe they’ve come a long way since then but I stick with Japanese manufactured 4-wheelers.

      Mine was the kit for the earlier version while I needed the one for the later version as my Wolverine is an ‘03. I think my kit was the 66055 while I should have bought the 66056. The difference was the size of the u-joint yokes. I was able to make it work by getting the larger yokes off eBay. I didn’t realize there was a difference until I got it. I was just happy to find a new old stock kit on eBay.
