I loved Underdogs, Beautiful midnight, and Audio of being. Matt Good still rocks solo, but these albums are some of the best albums ever written. This, is my fav Matt Good song by far.
If you don't like this song, do the world a favor and .......... (imagine something horrible). The song is brilliant. Just like Matthew Good.

I, too, am filled with not that much, and nothing as well---but I still have no idea what the hell 'fermosa' is.
Formosa, I believe.
The Republic of Formosa was a short-lived republic that existed on the island of Taiwan in 1895
I was leaning towards 'fermenting', like he drinks a lot to fill the empty void, hence why I spelled it 'fermosa'.... but, I believe you, and I do remember maybe researching the word a decade ago and coming to the same result.
Time, it killed my brain.
Poor Republic of China only has Taiwan left. Its hard being second China, when people mistake you with the Portuguese.
