From the late 70s onwards the SANFL was only a fedder league to the VFL. The VFL is a break away league from the VFA, which is as old as the SANFL, also the oldest recorded football games happend in Melbourne between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar. But who cares if the VFL or the SANFL is older, which state played footy first or so on. Victoria has so many more people than, WA, Tasmania & ect, it was always going to have the biggest and most powerful league. Victoria has a large population than, SA, WA & Tasmania combined. From memory Melbourne by itself even has a large population. The VFL was always going to come to dominate.
