- Take nothing of what I say as truth, I don't know what I am doing. The things people told me or what I found online could easily be incorrect. Fun to go blinding into the unknown sometimes though, especially with something like this where the stakes are pretty low.

Great update ❣ I was only thinking of you the other day and wondering how you were getting on with things. I love your lighting, I'm a huge fan of fancy lighting, my favourite thing ever is a spaceman lamp that projects a nebula onto the ceiling with laser stars ✨✨✨ So good to see everything coming together, and also the finished nerd room is a glimmer of hope that you will be back to doing nerd videos again soon! 🤞🏻(and Twitch streaming 😉 )

Looking good, you have put a lot of work in since your last video.With the fire place you are working on you could lay some large slabs (Slate?) raised up with a hidden step of an inch or two so they cover the the missing floor.
I decided against a raised slate (or other stone) hearth, I have these visions of stubbing my toe on it.
I think its adorable how you call it your nerd stuff.

They are probably firebricks laid with Fire cement and tile adhesive would survive the temperatures that close.
Nowadays real fires are nice but a hazard. you can get the same results safer with modern fire effect electric fires.
6:30 never try to match the wood. Remove all the bad stone completely and build a new structure on top, and later on you can decide how to fool the eye , I mean distract the eye from the weak spot, the damage point - which only you know and remember.
Maybe find a nice old oak tree board and simply build a u-frame or whatever but I would start with a simple plain white solution, then play around with a newer board which might not fit that well, but gives you an impression. And then sometimes you will find an old board in a shed or what ever that can find new glory there. Put the board around that wall like a u and then you can lay another horizontal piece that will look like it belongs there. We had done that 25 years ago in a similiar situation with no chance to get the spot fully covered with old ornaments or tiles and could never found matching ones, cause one time they were darker other time they had a different size or they had stains. At the end we took an old board of oak and cut it into a frame all around like in your situation and layed that horizontal one like the verge in a door, This way you create 2 rectangled areas that you can fill what ever you like separted by a door verge or maybe called door sill.
Might sound weird, but start to clean the mess, build the new underfloor, put a white sheet of paper onto it which are used in conference rooms to draw sketches. Then you have a white floor and can play around with a kind of frame out of planks. The older the oak the better it will fit.
Got a plan, a rough one, well... not really a plan but it'll hopefully work out. I'll see if my tiler will let me record but it should all work out. Although it is called a structural hearth, in this case there is nothing structural about it. What is the worst that can happen? 😉
For covering the floor gap, I have found some really nice blank sign boards, like mounting boards with a lovely mitred edges (unsure of spelling) that I could cut in two and paint the same as the skirting. Not bought them yet.
