Gosh, how embarrassing these interviewers are horrifically condescending and incredibly vacuous. Gary Numan comes across as are really genuine person and the only one who comes out of it with any integrity.
Got to say Gary is Who he is and no matter what comes out of any interview or anything else he will be and always will be GaryNuman...the BEST AND ONE AND ONLY there will never be ANYONE close to him ..
Gary really shines here! condescending and loathsome presenters insinuating that he looks weird, his video is too scary, he's too old, and using his modesty against him to suggest that he can't sing .... this exchange typifies everything that's grotesquely wrong with "adults" ... if only every fifty-plus year old was as cool and likable as Gary Numan - he is truly awesome (by the way, I love his new record)
he" s talking about his hair at the begining but his wife told him to keep it qiute. but i think he s not that bothered he just wants to look cool and he does,he s fantastic.
some questions shouldn't be asked - Gary's answers were very cool - by far one of the most interesting interviews in a long time. I find that these events never cease to surprise me.
Wow, how unprofessional the interviewers were. Did they not know they were talking to THE Gary Numan? He popularized an entire genre of music: the whole post-punk synthpop generation was heralded by this guy. Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Soft Cell, OMD, Yazoo, Human League, New Order, Cabaret Voltaire, Pet Shop Boys, and dozens of other groups were either heavily influenced by Gary, or were his immediate predecessors and influenced him. ...weird, awkward, little snide comments... fire these twits!
J R Gary was highly influenced by the John Foxx era of Ultravox, particularly their Systems of Romance LP! Keyboardist Billy Currie was a member of Gary's touring band also! =:^)
Gary totally saved this segment and was absolutely brilliant. These interviewers didn't know what the hell they were doing. Nice to see that idiocy on morning TV isn't restricted to the States... :/
Hmmm... perhaps you don't have the full context. So the goth subculture grew out of a lot of stuff coming out of the UK in the late 70s / early 80s -- JG Ballard's writings, social strife in the UK, and post-punk synthpop nihilism. So, from that perspective it would be sort of impossible for Gary to be "gothically derivative", since he participated in the creation of the subculture itself. It's like saying Chuck Berry is "rock-and-roll derivative."
Interviewers on morning shows are always coming from a clueless, judgmental mindset of mundane conformity, rather than life and creativity, and I'd say most of their viewers follow along the same lines. I don't think real artists should ever do morning shows.
These two are bad by daytime TV standards. I have to say most of the time UK daytime/morning telly is not this bad. I thought Gary was very natural, nice and accommodating despite them and didn't seem uncomfortable at all. I know a lot of "celebs" who would have got quite snippy at the apparent rudeness.
Complete utter waste of space these presenters, they won't be presenting in 30 years me thinks, maybe give them a year. Numpties! Gary is an artist, a gent!!
how is Susanna always on TV i mean she's just so plastic and seems to really patronise people ..i guess she's pretty and smiley though - the kind of person they want on breakfast TV hardly gonna have dame edna and idk..phil mitchell hosting are they lol - love gary anyway he always comes across really well just a shame the interviewers are ignoring. Also what was that last question meant to be =|
You beat me to it Phil.....yeah the interviewers were dreadful and clearly don't have a clue what they are talking about...Still Gary comes across brilliantly as usual.
good enough? Very well put about the x craptor! What has gary been doing for the last 30 odd years? I wonder if x craptor or many acts new today will be around in 30 years time? I think most people just dont understand him or the music? I love it ! Got my ticket for december!
Fucking love Gary Numan are friends electric seriously just pulled me through one of the darkest time's in my life! The guy seems so real to and a nice guy with unbelievable talent! Where has music like this are artists like these gone after the 90's they vanished! Nowadays is all shit pop and hip hop shit!
They are terrible! Clearly not Numan fans in the first place...the gorm says he thought it was "OUR friends electric". rotflmao! then the cowbag says "you go on tour... you cant sing" That one required a slap! and thoughout , Gary was just as affable as he's always been.
It reminds me of an adult talking to two silly children (dressed in their Sunday-best clothes). How do they hire these people? I'm unemployed, and finding it hard to get suitable work - though I could rung rings around this pair of intellectually-challenged dummies (as I'm sure the other respondents on here could do equally well too). Ha - 'don't be a dummy', as Gary once sang - maybe they should have played a clip of that instead! ;-)
seriousley Gary, with respect u should sort out your promo people they did you no favours here, yes bbc breakfast has a massive audiance but your cred i think took a hit with these oiky presenters.
@TheTelekon i disagree (sorry) lol i honestly think if i were sat to interview gary and the cue was given id just go Hi Gary blah blah octopus and end up hopping away with my head between my knees like basil fawlty
You couldn't get two more different personas as Gary and his goth alter ego - one is quiet, reflective, personable, the other a ghoul. Weird how many singers are so different in performance (mode). Take Dani Filth: he's like a little girl off-stage... x) Ironic that Mr Numan's stuff is so uninspired & (gothically) derivative.
Gosh, how embarrassing these interviewers are horrifically condescending and incredibly vacuous. Gary Numan comes across as are really genuine person and the only one who comes out of it with any integrity.
Those interviewers actually get paid for being obnoxious!? They were pure cringe. Good for Gary for getting through it so well.
Got to say Gary is Who he is and no matter what comes out of any interview or anything else he will be and always will be GaryNuman...the BEST AND ONE AND ONLY there will never be ANYONE close to him ..
don't like the way they made gary uneasy gary is a true musician a one of the greats in electronic music if not the greatest.
Nice interview! He's actually a good singer (in that he sings with his voices limitations). Some don't sadly..
He has a fantastic smile...Gary qualifies as one of the absolute prettiest makeup wearing British boys of the 80's ever.

They were talking to him as if he were a child
Well done Gary! Kept it together well, even though the interviewers were plain rubbish!!
Thanks for posting this!! Numan fans on this side of the water hole never would have seen it!! ;)
some questions shouldn't be asked - Gary's answers were very cool - by far one of the most interesting interviews in a long time. I find that these events never cease to surprise me.

What do you do when you're on tour? - Mime normally.
Love the way Charlie says I used to go to festivals, I wonder if he wore his suit at Glastonbury 🤣
a gary numan interview where they play the video for cars, how original
It's good to see that morning shows in the UK are just as shit as they are in America. At least Gary was there to add some class.

Well I love him so so much gorgeous Gary with gorgeous hair gorgeous eyes and gorgeous smile

@phil1002010 The album go's on General release (ie Shops and Amazon etc) on Oct 24th. It was only released earlier via his website and the tour.

Numan 'til I die :))
Gary's always a gentleman. Always.
what bad experience for Gary, these two know nothing about gary obviously!!!
It reminds me of an adult talking to two silly children (dressed in their Sunday-best clothes).

What a crap interview, Gary Numan rocks!
Fuck me the gab on about AFE and then say lets see a clip from Cars !!! unbeleivable !!!
Hm, he had less hair in 1992. What's going on?
Wig, obviously.
i agree the presenters are shite.

If you say so. The man only brought synthpop into the mainstream and inspired hordes of wannabes.
Our Friends Electric! W.T.F? Who picked these jokers to interview Numan? It's a bloody disgrace :(
