Very important talk. It is not against general activism. It is against having a lack of faith in the power God has to direct and change His church. This man is in touch with reality.

It’s obvious that Elder Corbett hasn’t met the activists I have. Theyre full of love and encourage members to listen to the spirit of discernment. and not be robots. He’s doing exactly what he’s is claiming Christ centered activists are doing.. judging, criticizing and fault fighting. A little humility could go a long way for him!!

I love this! And love the last part about asking the questions: “does this foster love for God’s children?” “Does it tend to cause contention?”
There are some ideologies that don’t seem to go against the Church at face value, but, I feel are still spiritually and emotionally manipulative (and yes, I’m a gay man, and I’m not only referring to LGBT activism that I’ve never felt 100% ok with). It would be nice to have clarifications on ideologies that fly under the banner of “love,” “unity,” “inclusion,” “heeding the prophet’s counsel to abandon prejudice or root out racism,” when really they’re just worldly ideologies that do not feel like gospel truth. And I’m aware that according to the ideologies, I’m all sorts of “fragile” just for saying what I just said…stuff like that.

Dude, you are no more flawed than the hetero guy sleeping around or cheating on his wife. Nobody is perfect. Love the man, hate the sin is a good rule to live by. We all pay for our actions that are against God regardless of what they are. Enter Jesus Christ. The only name under heaven by which we can be saved if we repent and follow him. That's the contract. It applies to all of us. So what do we love more, the Savior who died for us or our own vices and passions? Our behavior tells us all we need to know about what we really follow. You are not alone in this. We are all in the same imperfect boat.

A man loving a man appears to be part of our gospel. In the scriptures Christ referred to only one of his apostles as "beloved". We are all supposed to love each other. Nothing wrong with one man loving another.

@@richardbarrow4620 There is context in the term love. I love my friends. I do not want to have sexual relations with them. Jesus never encouraged that. He did tell us to live one another. We have twisted what that means to the point that some will sin while thanking God for the opportunity.

I picture the Church as a big boat with lots of rows of oars. Some oars are for individuals others whole families. I picture myself as an oars man. It's not my place go up to the top deck where our prophet and the Apostles are firmly holding the tiller and start shaking it. I believe mistakes are possible. However, if there is a better course, the harder we row, the sooner we'll find out.

This is a horrible talk! He literally gave a list of all the good things activism has produced. But for some reason the archaic teachings of the mormon church is the only place on earth you should not use that tool? This is manipulation at its finest. Taking an incredible tool like activism but saying you can’t use it against the church because we are above it. Very ego driven!

An argument can be made that the teaching of Jesus Christ are archaic, yet we practice what he preaches because truth is eternal. You are the very poster child for what he is talking about. Maybe a little humility and repentance will bring clarity to your mind and peace to your soul. It did mine.
