Got the chance of a lifetime in the spring of 1996 to visit the base at Reims where E.R. 1/33 “Belfort” was based and saw their Mirage F-1 CRs up close and personal, sat in the cockpit of one and watched them do takeoffs and landings from the tower. What a beautiful aircraft, and so powerful, the noise was loud even up in the tower. Met one of the pilots who had been doing photo recon. missions over Bosnia out of Aviano; at that time they had been taking pictures of hidden Bosnian-Serb military equipment positions (artillery and armor), and suspected mass graves around Srebrenica, some of the photos of which we were allowed to look at. He was also very proud of an illicit overhead photo he had taken of a US U-2 getting ready to take off at Aviano. At the time it was forbidden to anyone, allied or US to to take an unauthorized photograph of that aircraft.
Iraqi pilots gave the Iranians good lessons by the Mirage F1 during the gulf war in 1980s. I remember how beautiful feeling when I was looking at the Mirage F1 in the sky of Baghdad the days of Iraqi airforce parade in 1986, childhood memories.
Though it's old, The Mirage F1 has got to be the COOLEST "conventional design" fighter plane ever built... I mean, Its design is probably the first thing that pops into your mind when you think about a Fighter jet!
By far the most beautiful French combat aircraft ever made! ❤ The F-8E (FN) was magnificent too, and I was lucky to seat in one of them on board the Clemenceau, but of course it was an American project.
I will always believe that we have some of the most gifted pilots here in the USA (I work for one) but I must say I am impressed with the French pilots. Nice video.
This is a Fantastic Video, with very apt music accompaniment! Great aircraft (if a tad long in the tooth) and flown by some of the Best Aviators in the World!
GabberWijffie Minnie Wous I understand you.. the one thing I know I will always regret is that I never believed enough in myself to try to become one. I would've most likely failed like the thousands of others but at least I'd have tried. I have been drawn towards being a pilot for the air force for nearly as long as I can remember. Someone who used to play in the same football team as me is actually becoming a Jet Pilot. He was always really good at things and his dad was a pilot for the air force as well, but wow..
Excelente trabajo, presicion, musica, y tomas de video. Dios los bendiga y gracias. Excellent job, precision, music, and video footage. God bless and thanks.
The Dassault Mirage F1 jet fighters, called "fléchettes" ("darts") within the French Air Force because of their finesse, were fast, agile, tough and reliable aircraft. Morocco likes them so much that they decided to upgrade theirs with a glass cockpit and a modern radar (the Cyrano radar is clearly obsolete) with the help of the Israelis. They have transformed these venerable air superiority and ground attack jet fighters into multirole aircraft.
yep,n'djamena, along with bangui(centrafrica),dakar(senegal),libreville(gabon) and djibouti add to that ivory coast we just opened a new base in UAE(al-dafra),the first one ever in that part of the world, and the first abroad since our colonies gained their independance in the sixties
French forces have been present in Chad since 1986, during the Chadian-Libyan War. (Operation Epervier) in 2006 at the battle of N'Djamena, French airplanes have participated in reconnaissance mission to determine the scope of Sudanese involvement. The french forces provided logistical support to the government but without taking sides in the fighting; they also provided the Chadian with intelligence on the enemy's movemements. (look for operation epervier on wikipedia)
Don't ever, ever underestimate an opponent, the biggest virtue of a warrior is commitment, the biggest virtue of a soldier is discipline but the greatest strength of the tiger is patience.
One of the most badass video in the history of internet, I remember it was already famous on the pre-youtube web
