  • Today I hurried through replacing the upstream, Bank 1 O2 sensor on a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, before a thunderstorm came through (video is a bit windy, sorry!)
    Since some of the videos I've seen either didn't show positions well, or were for other series chassis allowing for accessing the passenger side O2 sensor through the wheel arch, I thought I would just share my experience with reaching and replacing the upstream Bank 1 sensor from above.
    It seems to be easier the 2nd time around, depending on your luck with tools and extensions not falling apart, but I show my angle of attack in order to reach things with minimal skin loss.
    I am not a professional, and there are probably better ways to do this stuff. Just saying.

    Oops, mis-spoke at the 3:24 mark. Quite obviously, it's a 3/8 drive O2 sensor socket, not a 3/4. Didn't feel like re-rendering that correction sooo.. yep.

    I too have done the downstream O² sensors with relative ease (except for reattaching cables to all the ziptie attachment spots). With code P0134 (B1S1) I was stumped on how to access this sensor, basically located inside a heat shield. I even removed a rad hose, still stumped. Then I watched your video. Thank you for posting!
    I'll hit it with confidence tomorrow, then onto shift solenoid B failure putting me into limp mode. New rad/trans cooler, rad flush, new atf filter, atf fluid exchange, inspect shift solenoid I'm while in there. DIY'er teaching myself with R50 service manual, Chilton/Haynes books and CZcams University on a 2001 3.5L SE Pathfinder I've had since '03. Cheers!

      @@CharlesOlcott I spoke too soon. What a GD disaster. Offset socket won't fit. Bought another socket like yours. Thought it was on all the way, it was not. Trying to remove and bent and twisted the top of the sensor!! Now absolutely can NOT get socket on. I had to use Dremel with extremely limited access plus 3' crowbar to chip away at top of sensor to remove the top part so socket will slide down. Still can NOT get socket on sensor, whole thing must be bent! I am seriously F*'ed. Only way I see this getting fixed is to have mobile mechanic drop the exhaust! Out of my league and rusted AF. Any ideas????!!!!
      Seriously, people. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!!!! IF IT GOES BAD ITS REALLY F'ING BAD!!!!!

    I just did it! With your trials, I knew what to look for! Only took about 30 min and a skinned knuckle, because the rubber gloves made it hard to get past the tight space. Again, thanks.

    After having new catalytic converters installed, and all new brakes I suddenly am running rich, very rich. Slow to start, but not always. I think I have multiple issues. Oddly, I changed out the spark plugs first as they were over due and to my horror it ran rough and worse than before changing the plugs. Exact same vehicle btw. 2002 Pathfinder. THANKS for this video! Great job.

    Thanks for the info and instruction Charles. I am replacing same sensor on an 02 QX4 tomorrow. Hopefully this remedied your check engine light for good.

    Bank 2 (driver side) is not bad at all once you remove the air intake housing from the filter box to the manifold.

      Good to know! I fortunately never had to worry about that side!

    I’m trying to find which connector is for the down stream 02 sensors. could you explain which one is for the downstream ones?

    • @CharlesOlcott
      @CharlesOlcott  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The downstream should be the dark green connector near where the other was. So the upstream was the light blue connector, the downstream connector was the dark green one just next to it.

    I have a 2000 Nissan pathfinder and got a P0138 code - Bank 1 sensor 2.
    I know it’s the down stream sensor after the cat but what side of the vehicle is it? Driver or passenger? Confused.

    • @CharlesOlcott
      @CharlesOlcott  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Bank 1 would be on your passenger side. Seems backwards to have 2 be on the Drivers, and 1 be on the Passenger, but it follows where the #1 cylinder of the block is, which puts it Passenger Side for it.

      @@CharlesOlcott Thank you so much. I tried taking off the drivers side (wrong one) but it didn’t work out due to all the rust.
      I will try the other side now.

      @@CharlesOlcott update, changed it and it’s the correct. It’s reading now.
      Another issue, I cleaned out the throttle body and getting a P0100 code now and high idle.
      Any idea?

    • @CharlesOlcott
      @CharlesOlcott  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@KevinG1994 P0100 is usually the MAF sensor inside the air cleaner hose assembly. I would double check and make sure the plug didn't come lose or a wire get dinged or something when you were cleaning the TB, it can happen. Otherwise, I would get a can of MAF sensor cleaner and clean the sensor itself, might save you needing to replace it just with a good cleaning!

      @@CharlesOlcott I bought the MAF sensor cleaner and cleaned it out, used electrical cleaner for the plugs as well, finally replaced the sensor and it throw the code again which is kinda strange.

    Thanks for sharing all this information bro. I have a question if I have both bank 1 and bank 2 sensors error, is bank 1 sensor exactly the same of the sensor of bank 2?

    • @CharlesOlcott
      @CharlesOlcott  Před rokem +1

      I can't say for sure, but I do know that all 4 sensors, the upper and lower and each side all have a different part number. I don't know if that's just due to wiring lengths or if there are any differences that would cause it to not work from one side to the other. Sorry!
