Nice part of the world! No graffiti on the walls, no trash in the streets, unlike Seattle. Smart how the founders laid out the streets and alley ways to keep the sea breeze from turning them into wind tunnels.

People in Croatia speak German, Italian and English. There is historic reason for that - North of the land was long under the Austrian-Hungarian government while the coastline was under the Italian. English came later like for the rest of the world. Croatia is magnificent and beautiful country, excellent quality and real home made food, and people, specially in smaller places are very nice and good at heart. :) I recommend to avoid big tourist spots in the high season, as it is crowded and sometimes very expensive. If you have time visit those spots later in September, while the weather is still very warm, warm sea and much less crowded as in July and August. :)

"konoba" is a small hole-in-a-wall type of restaurant that developed from family vine cellars where the owners had their own vine , own vegetables from their garden and meat from their livestock, so they started to commercialize that vine cellar , sell vine and meals to enjoy vine with. nowadays name "konoba" is often used when naming restaurants on the Adriatic Cost of Croatia, but authentic konobas are small establishments

Thank you Domagoj and Ranko for Grgich"s birthplace.
While I already posted eslewhere about the Croatians Nikola Tesla and Rudolph Steiner they're worth mentioning again.
When people switch on an electric AC light do they realize it was a Croatian who invented it?
Steiner represents to me what people perceive as the two Europes, 'East & West', due to the English Isaac Newton being taught dominately in U.S. public schools. Steiner was a follower of Wolfgang Goethe.
Let's not forget Krist Novoselic, parents Croatian, founder of the Seattle Grunge band Nirvana.

It's both culturological and geographical term, and by all criteria, Croatia ia a part of it (geografically, around 50% of it isn't, and culturologicaly, it has always been considered a part of it). Geographically Serbia is only a bit more a part of the Balkans (around 60%, since the border are rivers Sava and Danube, but culturologically, It's the prototype of a Balkans country. Maybe that's why some Croatinas don't want to be connected with the whole Balkans thing. But again, you can also hear some if them saying that they're not even Slavs, which is...funny. Luckily, it's just the minority of them being so dellusional and arrogant. Most Croatians are awesome.

There are MUCH cheaper restaurants (also accommodations) and bars out there in Croatia, even in places like Korcula, Hvar, Dubrovnik, etc. You just have to keep your eyes open and don't fall for the tourist traps, like you did and like the one Konoba that you showed in this video.
For example in the town of Hvar, I wanted to eat grilled calamari. A restaurant in the center next to the marina had it for about 30 Euros. We walked a couple of blocks away and found a decent restaurant at the sea that had the very same dish for about 15 Euros. It came with potatoes and chard and it was superb.

Not just Korcula's architecture resembles Venice, but many islands and coastal towns do too... Looking carefully in old buildings, in many there is a winged lion with a paw over a book, the symbol of St Mark the Evangelist, Saint Patron of Venice... remember St Marks Square, St Marks Cathedral, etc... all this area was under Venetian rule for 3 centuries, therefore their influence can still be noticed. At the beginning of the video, Gabriel is in front of the Old City Gate... the Croatian flag at the very top, and below, there is the lion... in Hvar, Pula, and many other "grads" or towns you'll also find it. Back then it was the Republic of Venice, and Italy did not exist yet as we now know it... and Dubrovnik was the Republic of Ragusa. Love Croatia!

It is dirt cheap out of tourist season and especially if you know the locals (which is not hard, they tend to be desperate for any company and especially newcomers once winter isolation sets in). Islands, even though they make massive income through tourism, are still very much subsidized by central government... Really enjoying your Croatia travels! We go there every year ourselves except this summer, and boy do we miss it! You're making us feel like we're back on our little island. Thanks and be safe!!!!!!! And have fun swimming in that beautiful crystal blue sea!

Great review of Croatian coast. I suggest you to go to Ston, it is near by of Korcula. There you can eat shelves, ston is known for that, and red wine as well. I suggest you to go to Island Vis - vis and komiza you'll need several days to do it, after that you can go to sibenik, skradin, zadar, plitvice...

Must tell me how the goat was! Try some cevapi if you like spiced meat. Usually ground lamb, pork or beef sausage shaped links served with a pita bread and red pepper relish/spread. Very delicious and can be served by a street vendor as fast food or each restaurant has their own variants

I really enjoy watching your videos, just picked up your channel a couple days ago. If your travel plans allow, you should try and visit the island of Krk. I'd be interested to see what you think of it. My family is from the old town of Vrbnik on the island...Have fun on your future adventures!
