  • Having a moth infestation in your home can be a great nuisance. Although most moths are harmless, others can cause damage by eating through clothing, other fabrics, and foodstuffs, and these insects can also cause allergic reactions in some. If you’re wondering how to get rid of moths in your home, we have compiled a list of ways you can eliminate them.
    Here are the 3 Best Ways to Get Rid of Moth in Your Home
    Use Cedar Oil
    Cedar oil is a common natural insecticide used as an effective pest deterrent for moths and other bugs such as silverfish, bed bugs, and flies. While the wooden scent of cedar oil might be pleasant to you, to moths it isn’t. They hate the strong-smelling pheromones in cedar and are repelled by them.
    To get rid of moths, use the oil in a diffuser or a spray bottle filled with water and several drops of cedar oil to make a solution. Spray the mixture on the affected areas.
    You can also invest in hangers made of cedarwood for your wardrobe to prevent moths from going after your clothes. When using cedarwood hangers you must sand them first and recoat them in cedar oil every couple of months to renew the fragrance of the cedar oil.
    Use Herbs
    There are different types of herbs that you can use to repel the moths but the following are the most effective since moths dislike their smell;
    Lavender
    Cloves
    Rosemary
    Bay Leaves
    Thyme
    First, choose the herbs that you prefer and put them in a small cloth bag and hang it in the areas of the house where you see moths frequently. You can choose one or more combinations of these herbs to put in a bag. You can also dilute the essential oils of the herbs in water and place them in spray bottles. Spray the mixture directly onto moths and entry zones like windows and doors to prevent them from entering your house.
    Use Vinegar
    Another natural solution to get rid of moths is by using white vinegar. Moths cannot survive in an acidic environment of vinegar. To get rid of them, make a DIY spray using vinegar and water then mix equal parts of the two in a spray bottle. Spray it over your pantry, closet shelves, and other areas in your home where you found moth eggs and larvae. Take extra precautions when using this method, since white vinegar can stain certain surfaces in your home, such as hardwood floors and tables, and metals.
    This DIY method is easy and effective if you do not want to use chemical insecticides for the side effects. This natural solution will kill moth eggs and larvae and keep them away from your house since the smell of vinegar will be unpleasant to them.
