  • One hours worth of the high storm tide at Scarborough, 13th January 2017. The first minutes are on the Marine Drive and the outer pier, followed by the Marine Drive with some fantastic close ups of the huge waves rolling into the North Bay and finally sheltering (!) outside a cafe watching the spectacular waves crashing over the road. High tide was about 4.30pm so it was getting quite dark but the camera coped quite well, especially when the street lights came on and lit up the waves as they came over. The noise of the sea was incredible and fortunately seems to cover over that usual awful wind noise you get on the camera microphone. It does sound even better played through hifi speakers turned up ! You do get the full thunderous noise.
    A day I will long remember.

    It’s a shame in a way that the council built the new sea wall with wave breaking rocks , before with the old sea wall it was a spectacular sight on the point in rough weather !

      If you don't know it it's a metal statue about ten feet high dedicated I believe to the victims of Belsen concentration camp. You'd have to google it to find out more.

      Ask the statue if he would like a break.
      If he says yes then get him a coffee sandwich.
      Tell him no pay for time off the sea.😊😅😂
      Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

    The sea bed at Scarborough is relatively flat. Imagine if it were steeper like the Atlantic coastline. You wouldn't be able to get so close...gr8 vid.

    At 38.00 are they Norman ruins up on that hill? The Scarborough Lily is named after Scarborough, even though it doesn't naturally occur there.

      Maybe they just get a buzz out of the power of the sea and isolation. It's not odd at all.

    Is this road built on reclaimed land? Wave breaker perhaps?
    What time of day was this?
    Which country?

    • @chrisandvicky
      @chrisandvicky Před 4 lety +2

      The road runs along the Base of cliffs and is 100's of years old... it's in the UK. . Not sure the time of day.... what is interesting is if you look at the waves from 0:45 onwards to just over 2:00 they are not approaching the shoreline but are being blown 90' parallel with it!
      Hope this answers your questions
