Thank you for posting. My aunt, Sandra Morris, took part in this. She appears on the 'trying on the cap' scene at 2'21". She sadly passed away last year and it is in going through her personal possessions I discovered some photos of the filming and looked up this film. Great to keep social history alive in this way.
I like watching videos of England during this particular era. My parents lived there from 67-70 and they always raved about how it was such a wonderful place to live versus NYC.
what a very diffearnt Uk we lived in the 1960s We had standards even the TW looked smart and they were part of the police service I hate 2014 please take me back
we no longer have traffic wardens today they had more power then the parking attendants today they were employed by police forces now the local council either employs or subs it out to a private company
I know everyone hates traffic wardens but if we didn't have parking restrictions then towns and city's would grind to a halt and emergency services couldn't get through
I ❤all these Look At Life videos I’ve watched some on Talking Pictures Freeview channel 82 Life seemed simpler and we had more freedoms Different times, different people But we’re they better times back then - I’m not really sure to be honest 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴
I remember those old meters as a kid as they were still around in the 80s, and always wondered what the difference was between the yellow "Excess Charge" and the red "Penalty". These days it seems that you can be just a minute late and you're straight on to a penalty. xD
I spat my beer out when she said people would be surprised to learn traffic wardens walk two miles a day like that’s a massive distance. Two miles is absolutely nothing. She must’ve spent most of her working day in Soho cafes drinking coffee.
I always like to put the amounts in inflation calculators. £16.00 pay per week in 1968 is about £347.76 per week in 2024, £18.083.72 per year in 2024, US$22,966.07 or about $11.04 per hour. The 6p per 15 minutes in the meter is £1.30 per 15 minutes today, £5.20 per hour or $6.60. Not enough pay if you ask me. Be nice to the traffic warden. I wonder if the 19 people all lined up so politely and dressed nicely to watch the argument at the start of this film, would step in if they start punching each other (it's the way things are now). Anyway, parking meters still don't give change, but they now take credit cards.
I remember those types of individual parking meters, row upon row of them, into the late 70s maybe even early 80s. Boy were they ugly! At least today you just get a ticket from a central machine.
czcams.com/video/nlMcvEVc5Sg/video.html "Mum looks smashing in her uniform" "The other kids are too afraid to hit me, because they think she's a police officer" omg!!
Ill bet when Harry Seacombe Got out of his Rolls Royce He was on his way or comming home from filming OLIVER the movie musical that was made The same year.
I wonder does anyone know anyone who was in these videos (any in this series) or are they any viewers relatives ? or what road did Rita and her family live in etc
Petrol was only 6shilling a gallon 30 pence cigs 30 pence for 20 counci rents 3pound a week ale 12 pence a pint a loaf of bread 8 pence football match 40 pence 15 pounds a week was a decent wage back then
Wow some of those cars I was born in 1968 so a lot of them were coming to the end of their motor lives but I knew what cars were what now in 2021 they all look the same bloody ugly bubble cars most of them Japanese no soul to them a bit like the modern world soul less and I don't like it one bit Great programme by the way
I think it's part of the soulless, transhumanist world we are heading towards with the name smart in front of it. The trains are also becoming soulless like something from China and Japan, all futuristic looking.
@vegeggicrunthat Why would it be cancelled? It is history. Things were very different in the past. People must see and hear the past so they can learn from it and not do it again. It's called history and its important to learn about.

The video quality is absolutely perfect for being 50 years old 👌
It would be shot on high quality film e.g. Kodak, not tape.
Wonderful-thank you for sharing.Charming, touching and nostalgic-Look At Life at it's best.Great footage of late 60's London
I think the senior wardens 50 years ago would've seen active service in WW2 ..... they look ex military ...decent

I used to see Harry Secombe in his roller when he came through South Wimbledon on his way home when he lived in Surrey.
Clean women in smart uniforms: now unwashed men in shabby shell suits.
what a very diffearnt Uk we lived in the 1960s
We had standards even the TW looked smart and they were part of the police service
I hate 2014 please take me back
dislexic landlord Hello I couldn't agree more.It all went wrong in the 80s. Life has been shit in Britain ever since. 💝
If these people could see Britain now, they would be turning in their graves. Sad.
Hello OP. It's now 2024. What are your thoughts? 😁
not one burka in sight how nice
So Ur mom not in this documentary?
shut up
When traffic wardens were traffic wardens not income generators.
Correction - illegally parked motorists are the income generators - like speeding drivers are as well
Still wankers
@@melgrant7404 And you aren't?
@@acheface certainly not are you?
The days when you could park in Mayfair put an "out of order bag" over the meter and have free parking all day!
Things looked better in 1968.
They were
They did was only whites
Yes loved to go back to that time
I would have been 4vears old then
Lol
They most certainly did 😀
The yellow peril in the days when it wasn't seen as a council cash cow
It was very much an income still back then ya twab
Ah, the good old push mower.
London looking good back in a day, not so good right now.
Thanks for Uploading.
WOW I love this video Thanks for posting I was a Met Police TW in the 1980's see Just another Day traffic wardens
This is classic! In more ways than one. So much awesome!
5.00, the lotus cortina would be worth a bit now!!
It is a GT. It has rear doors and the badge on rear wing is red and silver not yellow and green.
we no longer have traffic wardens today they had more power then the parking attendants today they were employed by police forces now the local council either employs or subs it out to a private company
Now 99% African..............
Always one weirdo making comments like this...If u don't like what u gonna do about it loser?
I know everyone hates traffic wardens but if we didn't have parking restrictions then towns and city's would grind to a halt and emergency services couldn't get through
No one could move if we didn’t
Pretty easy well payed fun walking job. It seems the 60's 70's were full of easy well payed fun jobs.
Lovely Rita Meter Maid.....
Back when London wasn't the third world...looked so much better and cleaner
Flipping parking machines still don't give change.
Inner city decay started here.
The female traffic warden earned £15.00 a week... bloody hell.
During the same time it cost £10 a week to rent a 1 bedroom flat in London and 8 months would get then a brand new mini.
I ❤all these Look At Life videos

i enjoyed this
Lovely Rita Mter Maid
That toy MV Augusta racing motorcycle the young boy has would be worth a lot of money in good condition now.

“Yes, of course it’s Harry Seecum”. Why on earth would it be that person. Many people drove that model RR. And who the heck is Harry?
Harry Secombe. Look it up.
@Jellybean Or as Prince Charles called him, Sir Cumference.
That was a Vincent black prince . Blimey .
I spat my beer out when she said people would be surprised to learn traffic wardens walk two miles a day like that’s a massive distance. Two miles is absolutely nothing. She must’ve spent most of her working day in Soho cafes drinking coffee.
I think she says 10 which sounds more like it
Proper barbecue 60s style.
Now literally illegal

Surprising no one mentioned Harry Secombe in the roller towards the end ?
I wonder which one is "Lovely Rita" the meter maid. :)
Eric is cool, I work as an ambulance practitioner in London. I wonder how long he worked in the LAS for.
These are great videos, I have the volume 1, Transportion set, this one isn't on there, which set is this off please?
Most meters were always robbed and out of order !
Eric looks like he was punching well above his pay grade with Rita .!
" the other kids are scared to hit me " lol
gold

What has happened to London England ?
Bloody Hell! - Vincents hair and a refugee chicken from Sainsburys!!! -Those were the Days.😃😃😃
Ill bet when Harry Seacombe
Got out of his Rolls Royce
He was on his way or comming home from filming OLIVER
the movie musical that was made
The same year.
Probably not most likely he would have had a studio car assigned to him
I wonder does anyone know anyone who was in these videos (any in this series) or are they any viewers relatives ? or what road did Rita and her family live in etc
Wi fi cctv camera's literally cleaned all the major roads in London in mid 2000's.
Lovely Rita,
Meter maid.
1000 pound a year? Loaded!
Lovely Rita, meter maid......
What's with the weird door handles in the meter maids house?
Funny little diagonal strips above the normal position.
eurouc. My grandad had them in his house. Think they were from the 1950s
Those were ultra modern.
The doors have been covered by hardboard as panelled doors gathered dust and were old fashioned.
5:53 Ah the good old days when children were beat at school every day.
£15 a week. The mind boggles
Now we have Londonstan
6:00, ever heard of a brush?
@6:03 I don't care how much he pokes that chicken...that shit never gonna cook w the door open 🙈
PegDowncom it's a rotisseriie grill.

Lovely Rita meter maid...
Lovely Rita meter maid
Omg i did somebtraficvwardening in 2005 lol didnt change lol public enemy lol
More immigrants means more cars.
£16 a week in 1968 equated to £1,135.12 per month in 2020. Not a lot these days, and not enough to live on in London.
£16 a week ?? ? ? ?
That's equivalent to about £280 - £300 now.
Petrol was only 6shilling a gallon 30 pence cigs 30 pence for 20 counci rents 3pound a week ale 12 pence a pint a loaf of bread 8 pence football match 40 pence 15 pounds a week was a decent wage back then
London wardens get £16 a week. Well paid then!!
It's about 280 pounds a Week at today Rate.....Not Well paid ...WTF..🤣🤣🤣
They were some black traffic wardens as well who don't get paid on there lunch hour
.....may I inquire discretely?...would you like to have some tea with me ?....
Traffic wardens should be re-introduced, not these civil enforcement officers who dont have a clue, and rarely speak the English language.
Traffic Warden powers were given to Traffic PCSO'S. They enforce the pan London Red Route on behalf of the MET and TFL.
This whole clip looks like some North Korea propaganda. At least over there, they still have the same people and it's much more clean.
White flight these days!

Disliked for sexism
It's a video from 1968 ! What did you expect ?

Tell you what, that blonde warden at the start would get a portion ❤
