Yes, either option is a copy of the file, that was not noted in the second option shown but you can see that in the file name with is Sales_Orders14. Due this local copy and editing of the file in OneNote, it is not updating the original file, if you open the original file, it will not have the updates you see in OneNote. Makes it almost, if not impossible, to use this workflow across computers and devices.
Hey thanks Andy for this. When embedding the Excel spreadsheet is there an option to make updates from WITHIN One note, or will it always open up the Excel spreadsheet when editing from within One Note? Thanks!
Thanks for this Andy. Unfortunately there's an issue in this respect in terms of cross-device usage for the same excel spreadsheet. From briefly playing with this, as a temp file will be saved on your computer you can't access that same file from as smoothly from the OneNote section on another device (e.g. mobile or tablet).
Is there any way to insert the spreadsheet, and when opening it from OneNote, have it open the master/original document - this would easily resolve the issue when accessing/viewing/editing the spreadsheet from multiple devices.

Is there a way to choose what cells are shown in the embedded image of the spreadsheet within OneNote? It automatically shows the 7 or so columns and maybe the first 100 rows. What if I want the embedded image to only show 3 columns and 15 rows? Or 20 columns and 3 rows? When clicking "Select what to display" it only allows you to choose different sheets. Hoping there's a way to choose what is displayed in the embedded image...
Is the only workaround creating a table out of the data and selecting the table as what is displayed? What if you don't want the whole table displayed in the embedded image?
How do you add the spreadsheet in OneNote from your OneDrive so that as you are working on the Spreadsheet it autosave in OneNote?

What version of OneNote are you using? My version doesn't have this functionality.
