Politics in the UK has been Liberal Left leaning for over a quarter of a century and you couldn't put a tissue paper between the policies of either. As for division, "cancel culture" comes from one end of the political spectrum, the Left. I'm not in the least bit surprised that you have glossed over it because I wouldn't want to take ownership of it either....it's pernicious.
The whole of Europe is moving to the Right in politics including the UK and France. It was only the voting systems of both countries that returned Socialist Administrations. The Tories brought in Voter I.D. to rig things in their favour. Side effect: we're more democratic and up to the standards of most European countries. Labour want to bring in votes at 16 to rig things in their favour. Side effect: we'll be more democratic and up there with Austria, the Isle of Man, Wales and Scotland and we'll be further ahead than most European countries.
Sometimes, for the wrong reasons, people can end up doing the right things :)
