Interesting to hear that I'm not the only one that prefers my pen to have a bit more weight to it. It's odd, but super light weight pens don't feel right. The only exception is my lil Kakuno. idk why, but that lil $15 wonder is still one of my favorites.

Also like a pen to have a bit more weight, feels more solid.

Was wondering how pen makers created that cool crushed ice effect. Now i know! Cheers David!

The name being K(a)weco instead of K(o)weco as you might expect from "Koch, Weber & Compagnie" is because it isn't the first two letters of the original names. It's basically how a German speaker could pronounce "KW Co." In German "K" can be pronounced as "kah" and "W" as "veh"; KaWeCo.

Thanks for the review. I like the look but it does seem short for me. I was thinking of this for taking to the office, as I WFH a lot, but didn't want to carry my larger laban on office days.

What a coincidence, I'm just about to pick up my first Kaweco Sport! Mine's a broad nib too, although only a basic Navy I'm afraid. Lovely to see how it writes- although the pen shop were kind enough to let me play around with it beforehand, I didn't get to see it inked and was a little worried how well the tiny little nib would write- it looks fantastic!

I got one of these in hickory brown. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to try it out. While I love the aesthetic, form factor, and feel of the pen, there are a few shortcomings I noticed, which were especially glaring at its price point. That being said, I'm not going to give this pen up anytime soon. In fact, I'm planning on eventually swapping the nib with a vintage Sheaffer Feather-Touch gold nib, since I heard that they fit Kaweco Sport feeds.
The fist minor problem I have is that the finish leaves a bit to be desired. My specimen was slightly under-polished with light scratches still visible on the facets of the cap. The resin also has one or two tiny blemishes where there may have been an air bubble during pouring. I can live with this, since it will eventually get scratched from normal use anyway.
Second, the cap is not air-tight due to its design, and I think this caused the pen to dry out faster than it should have. The cap is made in 3 parts: the main part is a tube open at both ends, and there is a finial/end cap that screws on over the clip. I found that the threads on the finial did not seal properly. To test this, I poured water into the cap, and it leaked out around the clip where the finial screwed on. Fortunately, this problem is easily fixed. I unscrewed the finial and applied silicone grease to the threads, then screwed it back together, testing and repeating the process until the cap no longer leaked when I filled it with water.

Hi David - I love your work and learning about pens from you! I'm not sure if anyone has commented about this before, but I find the volume on your videos to be *very* quiet, especially compared to other CZcams creators. Is there any chance you'd consider turning your mic volume up? Again, thanks for sharing your collection with us!

Yes. You get lured in on the Classic or Skyline, maybe a BB nib etc. Then Mr.Gutberlet decides to make a BRONZE edition, or Ebonit,or adorable Acrylics! They can be irresistible.
I think a Figboot Kaweco Sport would be very interesting. I like a cartridge/converter for the Sport. Oh,a slip-cap Sport would be absolutely awesome. And Kaweco probably would not have to change the internals to keep the traditional dimensions. Yes,even Sportier. The Super Sport Model 396 !

Kaweco nibs are mixed bags, I got a beautifully wet nib the other day, then I got a pilot-medium like medium
Love my kaweco, never went out without it in my pocket

By sheer coincidence, I was just going through my history and re-watching some videos from years past, and immediately before this dropped I your review of the Danitrio Genkai, so...pretty big shift between pens, in at least a few different ways.

What about a Kickstarter to launch a custom KAWECO ART SPORT PARKER? Perhaps with a parker-esque Kaweco clip ;-)

So, the only difference between the art sport and a regular sport is the art is made with resin? In other words do the art sports have the same nib as the sport? That would mean you are paying a little more than three times as much for that resin. 🤔

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  Před 4 měsíci +1

Essentially, yes. Resin is significantly more expensive than injection molded plastic...and needs to be worked with tools rather that just molded. So, there is a significant increase in the labor necessary to produce this pen compared to other Sports.

Nice plastic. Too bad the nib is so pedestrian. There's absolutely no character to the line it produces. When are people goin to start demanding that pen companies actually do something to that ball on the end of the nib?!!

I don’t usually find white pens appealing, but this icy one piques my interest. I didn’t realize the depth of the resin ice-chips. I hope Kaweco will consider offering a piston pen in that resin.
I am also beguiled by the ink. I like DI’s offerings and may pick up a bottle.
    Thanks for another enlightening review!
