to answer your question, the reason why detonating nitro crates with the green exclamation box does not destroy any surrounding normal boxes is because those crates are not rendered, the box is a script that just removes and counts all surviving nitro boxes with the screen shake and sound effect, it doesn't touch other boxes (at least in PAL version which I have played, the game only renders what's in front of you the explosions don't occur in the distance)

My guess on why the nitro exclamation crate didn't blow up crates near the nitro crates, is that the single crate was in an unloaded area and thus was unloaded. The exclamation crate can ofc. account for unloaded nitro crates, but probably doesn't account for other unloaded crates. I don't really know, but this is my guess.
Another possibility is that the nitro exclamation crate is purposefully made to only blow up the nitros, so that the player needs to destroy every normal crate.
Either way, that situation really sucked.

In Piston It Away, you don't need to spare the one enemy. You can just slide-spin-jump the gap. At least I think so.
That's how I always did it. It seems much easier than having to get the exact timing for that enemy jump.
That doesn't work in N-Sane version. At least for me.

to the people who were wondering... when you leave the area tnt and crates unload in that area to save on memory... but nitro crates don't unload so they can be affected by the switch at the end of the level. that is why boxes don't blow up when you hit the nitro switch

Fun fact: When Caddy was struggling to get the blank Aku Aku box in Cold Hard Crash, you can actually gain a little more height by belly flopping. This is also true for different Crash games, as the belly flop raises Crash ever so slightly higher in its animation (Wrath of Cortex being the highest), which the crates classify as him flopping on them. This comes in handy for occasions you screw up by breaking a bounce box or if you haven't gotten the double jump yet.
It is, however, not very reliable and may take anywhere between 1 and 20 attempts to do, so you should only really try use this if you're impatient when it comes to early game box collecting (like me).

I've found that in Cold Hard Crash, if you slide on the ice toward the wall in the death route, you stop yourself. Also, being a Legacy of Kain fan, I was *ecstatic* to hear that Caddy had played Soul Reaver. Hope someday he plays and enjoys the other games in the series.

I always assumed that neo cortex wanted crash to give the crystals to n.gin was because he essentially had control of all of the ones in the next warp room. in essence, your taking his.
Otherwise great theory because they all are space levels but that night jungle one. The stlry definitely is the worst part of the game with the bosses. Tiny is the only one I have fun with. N. Gin is pretty boring.

I don't know if it's the PAL version Caddy, might just be your specific copy. I've been playing Crash 2, 3 and CTR on a DYING PS1 for years (as in, I've been playing them since before it was dying, but still played it on a original PS1 for the last few years) and I've seen some weirdness but never the kind of shit that keeps happening to you.
My grandparents have 2 Crash3 disks, that softlock at different moments for some reason.
@@WyvernDotRed I have seriously never had any problems with either. Only CTR hangs sometimes on the checkered flag loading screens. But that is the only game I've ever had problems with my PS1
@@ThommyDude The old PS1 at my house is in a really bad condition, the cables of the controllers are damaged, the spindle is loose and comes off when removing the CD, the output connector is cracked and makes pour contact and sometimes the upper half of the screen gets massive screen-tearing issues.
We got it for free though, and it is chip-modded.
The one at my grandparents is unmodded, never has any issues and has an interesting boot ROM, as it has a rectangular Win95-like interface.
These softlocks are caused by the disks, as both PlayStations have the same issue with it,
@@WyvernDotRed If the game softlocks at some point most likely the disc are scratched enough for your PS1s to not read them properly. You can try and re-calibrate the lenses, but if the disc are too scratched that won't help much
@@ThommyDude Same here which sucks because I prefer the og over Nitro Fueled. The Pit Stop and random customization for computer players totally ruined the game for me. I don't pay for PS+ so I get less wumpa coins already which is nice and I have very little time to play anything so to unlock characters (the only unlockables I care about, I only use standard skins, carts, etc.) I'd have to play when the game decides to give me a chance to unlock a certain character but then I don't have enough coins so fuck that game and lemme love my PS1. Yes. I'm a sad and bitter creature lver Cash Banooca Nipple Fury. Or like Jim here said Crap The Russians.

You can't skip Cortex even with 100%. You have to best Cortex and then you can watch the 100% ending straight away.
The thing about this generation leap is that it's more about functionality and new tech than graphics since we basically reached the limit of what current computer graphics can do , so yeah a lot of PS5 games will look like games on the PS4 the difference will be that they will be in 4k60fps and have little to no load times.

Years late I know, but if I had to guess about that Nitro thing it's because of how the level loads. The nitros will destroy anything that's loaded with them, but once you've unloaded that chunk of the level everything else is unloaded. I'm not a programmer, but it feels like they just programmed the detonator to play an explosion sound effect, shake the screen a little bit, and maybe add x number to your box count where x = the number of nitros, with a flag or something to not load the nitros once it's been hit. Probably less hardware-intensive than remembering everything placed next to the nitros and actually exploding the nitros so the things blow up around them. Kinda makes sense when you think about, the whole point of the detonator is so you can destroy the Nitros, but still have them as obstacles afterward, but what's the point of having the nitros in the first place if you can just bypass the challenge? Obviously if they put the crate there the intention, hardware restrictions notwithstanding, is so you try to squeeze in, or sacrifice an Aku Aku mask if you have one, to get it. So why bother if you can just bypass and get the gem anyway? Now, it's entirely a matter of personal opinion if you _like_ that challenge or agree it should be there, and I can absolutely see why someone would not enjoy it. But on the other hand, it's not necessarily unfair either. Caddy _did_ break it and get away on his first attempt after all.

1:26:24 For some reason Aku Aku didn't become a full fledged character until Crash 3. In the first 2 games you could get Aku Aku masks but he didn't appear as the "mentor to Crash and Coco" character until Warped.
I think it said in one of the manuals for the first two that he was some kind of great shaman or sage who was still about in spirit but the masks weren’t him specifically, he had just left them around for crash to find, as opposed to 3 where he can speak through them like he’s in there

3 years later and I'm just here screaming at my monitor about memory limits and how the PS1 can't feasibly keep everything in an entire level including unloaded areas on hand to know what's next to each box without the game turning into a slideshow so it's probably just keeping the running tally of unexploded boxes for when you hit the switch and now I'm realising that this might be one of the most useless comments I've ever written but leave me alone I needed to vent.
I didn’t realize the Belly Flop was divisive in the Crash fandom. Why? Last I checked, an attack where you slam the ground after jumping in the air is pretty standard for platformers so why’s it only a problem with Crash?

Wow man, that really sucks just missing that one lousy box in that lousy level. I think the best way to do it is to do it in these steps:
- Get to the death route platform but don't hit the checkpoint
- Go through the death route and collect the boxes
- Don't jump off at the end to get the gem, go back to the death route platform and ride it down
- Hit the checkpoint box, then go back through the death route and collect the gem
- After getting the gem, die, then you'll be back at that checkpoint and can go through the level normally from there.
No one would think to do it that way when they first come across this I dont think so we all had to do this the hard way and it is a cruel way to get 2 gems in this level in one go. No wonder this level gets so much hate. lol

This is PS1 game we are talking about, it has to save processing power and memory space everywhere it can, of course it isn't going to emulate nitros blowing up all over the level you can't see all at once and everything along with it. All the trigger does is simply 'remove' the nitros that aren't loaded in your vicinity...
You couldn't possibly think PS1 was capable of that processing, taking the entire huge level into account, let alone without a slightest lag when you hit the said trigger
