- This is a hotspot when I discovered weeks ago. I returned with a small pick to hack away at the dirt. The area had been rich in clay pipes and other household items, but I never thought I would uncover a small bottle dump. This was my first try and bottle digging, and I can now see why bottle diggers love their hobby. It's so addictive.
So many channels just talk and talk too much. You get right to it and show what you are doing bottle after bottle. I really enjoy your adventures and treasures. Thank you.
Hi and thanks for your comment. I watch many CZcams channels, and I try to avoid what I don't like about them. I think too much chit-chat can distract you from the purpose of the video - showing finds. ... Scott
One of the BEST videos I have seen on U'TUBE, it was just SO NICE to not hear one curse as well as being very interesting. Thanks for a great video.
Leapingcrane HTW Oh another Christian how wonderful, who cares about curse words. It’s also spelt CZcams.
This guys great. But curses aren't bad, no one cares if someone goes "holy shit are you fricken kidding me" "damnnn what a find" that's natural, real behavior.
@Tony Wilkins I guess you've never found anything that excites you. Where you cant think. And emotions take over. I've had to edit out a lot of curses on my videos, because I try to not curse on video. But guess what. It's a word. We are here to watch someone's hobby, see what they find and feel their emotions. Not judge them on how they speak
@Tony Wilkins clearly metal detecting to you is a hobby. Not a passion
Enjoyed your video on finding old bottles plus other bits and pieces. Your voice is very clear and easy to understand. Tks. Dennis from Canada
hi Scott , great little bottle dump you've found , I reckon your right with the dates , I remember in the late sixties there was a big dump still in use at the other side of the road where the old road passes under the new road, it is now pasture.....Paul.
Some very nice bottles! I love to find anything old, mainly Civil War,but I love finding any old bottle. Thanks for sharing, it was fun going along..hope you find lots more bottles, pipes and everything ! I hope you had a nice Father's Day.
a tip to get the cork out of the bottle is to put a plastic bag inside. turn the bottle upside down so the cork is near the head/hole and then inflate the bag. now pull the bag and it should pull the cork out with it.
Ah, thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. I had just assumed the cork wouldn't come out, as it had expanded once leaving the bottle neck. Thanks again... Scott
Thanks for sharing your little adventures. I enjoy watching them when my mind is racing and I need a little relaxing distraction. Every time you pull something out I find myself riveted and willing it to be intact. I like that you don't put to much emphasis on only valuable items. Thanks from a Florida mudlark at heart.
Those bottles are a very nice find. Good job saving some historical samples of glass bottles. Neat.
If I came across a find like this I'd be doing my happy dance for ages! I love old bottles and kitchenware.
The snail in the bottle! That takes me back to my first year at university, when I did one unfortunate year of law.
Nice finds. The little bottles are so neat! Thanks for sharing!
nice finds, would be neat to see the old tea pot glued back togather
Oh my gosh..United States here. I love your videos!! Finding a clay pipe would just take me to the moon!! Keep looking!!
I am in Utah we don't have old stuff. My daughter is a nurse in England she and I both love the History found in the UK! Keep up the good work!
LynnRC1957 there is old stuff not bottles or ceramics but fossils from sea creatures, that is old.
Nice finds. Love the bottle digging.
I love digging trash/bottle dumps. Sweet bunch of bottles and artifacts!
I too am jealous. Very nice finds for bottles and pipes. Hard to find bottle dumps where I am. Keep up the good work and videos!
I do like the small bottles that are short and squat. Love the lid. Small bottles are always a joy to find.
Wow! The bottle bonanza! Another great video & always looking forward to the next! A balmy 107 degrees in California today. Send some of that cool weather our way, if you please. Good luck and happy hunting to you!
Lora Munday you in Fresno area, too? Miserable today.
I’ve only started watching your videos. I love your attitude about all your finds. Most people if it isn’t silver or gold it isn’t any good. I really enjoy your videos keep up the good work.
wow that's some tough soil conditions...I'm surprised that anything survived...great finds my friend
Really amazing finds Scott. Them bottles clean up nicely
Good vid . its great to find bottles on a hunt ,
It was hot today and seeing all those bottles make me thirsty ... so here's to your good health ! And could it be that "the remains of an old battery" at 1:12 is in fact part of an old bicycle dynamo?
Thankyou for sharing your dig. Its interesting to see what you found.
sweet digs man, good hunt
Nice bottles, keep them, people think you are an alchemist.
From New Jersey, I have a place I have been digging for about 5 yrs. now. I have around 200 bottles some back to the 1800's also a lot of old china from the old Atlantic City when the Mob ran things. Sad thing is I dug more broken one's than I have good one's. Love the video keep them coming.
Looks like you found an old dump. They used to burn the trash to use it as filler, and the bottles and cans would not burn. The can's would rust. The trash ash was used as filler for road construction. Your digging into the roadside buildup used in supporting the roadway. With all the moisture in your dig area, your excavation could eroad the embankment and dammage the road supporting integrity.
Hi and thanks for your comment. There was some excavating done nearby, with deeper incursions into the roadside build-up, so the road's fine.
Really appreciate the lack of cussing. Thanks
Thanks for your feedback. There's enough swearing on CZcams, so I try not to add to it. I try to keep the videos family friendly! .... Scott
Looks like the area your digging is an out of city dump , is their a canal near by as they used to use canal barges to transport city waste. the ash is where the dump would heat up and catch fire underground from decomposition and pressure . I've dug a few of these sites around london.
Alf interesting
Excellent video. It's captivating watching folks like yourself dig things up always hoping for the great historical and financially rewarding finds for you.. you're fantastic interesting folks doing necessary work really.
I do like the small bottles that are short and squat. Love the lid.
Nice little selection there . The Bovril's could be an indicator of the age of the dump . They look to be Early 1930's . Really like the Belfast duo . Great finds !
Hi and thanks for your comment. Yes, I was really happy with the Corrys bottles. Close to the same area I found a Corrys bottle stop as well, so there was definitely a demand for this brand in the area! ... Scott
Fine video work and the wrap-up put a fitting conclusion on a successful foray! Thanks for posting!
Very enjoyable video. Thank you from Washington State USA.
Was on 8 man bottle dig on Sunday Got blue durrmel bottke N king geo 6th scotch whiskySpring capped ! Good wee hunt m8 It is good fun ! Good luck And happy digging Subbed a while ago btw !
Yes, I can really see why bottle diggers really get into that aspect of the hobby. It's addictive.
I'm so jealous of the things you Brits can find. I'm in British Columbia and you just don't find anything old here. I just love those little bottles.
Poking around in my own back yard at my old house, built in 1927, in Saint Petersburg, Florida, I found a bunch of buried bottles and glasses from that time, so North America has some stuff! ( :
There are lots of beauty bottle digs in BC, the trick is is to find out where the dumps are for the camps and towns. Town dumps are, from my experiences, mostly broken up crap, but then... Many years ago we found some old CNR logging camp maps for Vancouver Island, found a camp, found out where the cook-house was located (next to a small lake) and spent many hours with long sticks poking through the mud till ya hit a *thunk/clink*, messy wet work and way too much fun, btw we found some beautiful bottles back to 1900's and slightly earlier, literally hundreds with quite a few rarities. Personally I love the ones that became 'rainbowed', not too sure why some glass does that but man they are pretty!
Another good one is homestead dumps, especially if you can find the out-house location, and in those I'd recc'd a metal detector as well as the guts to start digging down into the muck of history. Just my wee thoughts on this wonderful hobby. :)
come over to us in germany-everywhere in the city you`re digging you`ll find so much bombs and on the landscape you` find mines a lot of plus bombs ;-) sometimes its better finding nothing!
Im in Victoria BC, about 18 years ago I paddled to a small private island and found an old miners camp in the woods, but further on with exploring and the very small island next to it, I found an old first nations canoe carved out of a tree and unfinished. I returned to it about three years ago and its all still as it was. Its nice to think about it considering its been so long since its been out their and just forgotten about and times have changed in a major way.

Lovely site, nice video, that ground was so compacted amazing how the bottles survived.
Wow I wish I could find just a few old bottles!
If it Bottles your after you should go to a local supermarket that has recycling, usually they have large recycle bins full of bottles and you wont have to dig in the dirt.
But who wants new worthless modern age bottles? Antique bottles and stuff is found in old dumps dating back to the 1800s. Yesterday's trash is today's treasure. You obviously don't know anything about dump digging or you would have never made such a ridiculous comment.
I found an old bottle dump in Shrewsbury by a brook, intact hot water bottles cod bottles, suddenly people got wind of it and dug till there was nothing left, I was about 13 and didn't really know what I'd found so took some to school to show the history teacher, yep he was there aswell
where abouts in shrewsbury did you find them there could well be more
Here in the States I feel like subterranean trash collecting criminal.
Metal detecting? A less illegal hobby here would be serial killer.
Swing on mate! Happy digs.
Very good video sir. I enjoyed it. Good luck digging.
Do people bury other bottles there so the next person can come along dig them up?
Thank you so much for sharing your adventure.
Stay safe.
hi there. nice vid. you look to be digging some of the same stuff I have bin digging at an old dump I found in Leeds. the earliest bottle I found there so far is 1920s . you should try dig deeper . you may find older things. really enjoyed watching. keep up the good work👍
finally someone thats not faking finds, thank you
Hi and thanks Kevin. Yes, if I was going to plant stuff, I can assure you it would be more interesting than the stuff I usually find. I don't go out looking for the cache of gold and silver coins. It's an extension of my interest in local history, and if I find something remotely interesting, then it's a bonus! Thanks again .... Scott
awesome finds! would love to find so many bottles in one hunt
Guess you know that outhouses are good places to find bottles.
Very Interesting! Keep it up!!
What a fun find! I like the 2 brown wide bottles, Happy hunting.....D
Awesome bottles, congratulations!
New video to watch before I sleep. Great videos!
Love the vids ... and ..oh, do I love old bottles!!!! You found some great things! I'm jealous !! Just curious, Do you ever 'oops' and end up breaking a bottle??
Hi Mary. I think I've chipped one and smashed one. Overall, my record is pretty good though. As soon as I hear the glass 'ping' noise, I going into super safe mode. Thanks for your comment... Scott
Another highly entertaining video. I'm looking forward to somebody finding an old Marmite bottle or two instead of Bovril !
Love this channel and I love your accent
Hi Jessica and thanks for your kind comment. I try to tone down the accent and speak slower than the locals, as I'm aware 50% of my viewers are from the USA, and another 25% from outside of the UK. I'm glad you like the channel. The finds are genuine and the videos are not just crammed full of the good finds. I highlight the trash as well, but if you're interested in local history, even garbage tells a story. ... Scott
These are like the human history version of fossils
is this a dump site? still, really nice finds! anything else?
So I guess the Stevenson company was making Gingersnail soda.
Great looking bottles and pipe pieces.
Nice possibilities but your hammer work scares me, and the proximity of clay pipes and newer bottles is perplexing .
Your the best CZcamsr you inspired me to dig and detect ❤️
Thanks very much for your kind comment. I might not find things of great value, but the reward is getting out there, having read up on the history of the site, and look for links. It's a great hobby.
nice bottle hunt there, where did you get your pick digging tool from?
Hi, I chose the pick because it was small enough to put into a backpack. I bought it from my local tool store. Thanks for your comment... Scott
I would bet that lid you found goes to the tea pot. Did you notice it had a steam hole in it?
Hi Terry, once I gave it a good scrub it did indeed have a little hole. .... Scott
It might work easier for you to use a small garden claw, less chance of damaging items.
The bottle at 11:45 might be a whiskey flask.
some interesting stuff there scott, im glad you didnt keep all the bottles that you kept lol, best wishes
We don't get those sort of dumps in Australia. I'm curious as to how you stumbled upon it? Do you think there may have been a house where the road is now? Is it worth swinging the detector around the area?Congrats on all your finds though, very well done! Regards. Chris.
Hi Chris and thanks for your comment. I'm so interested in the amount of history over here because I was brought up in Sydney. I had found bits and pieces between the grass and so I decided to dig. The initial detector check revealed nothing, and after the dig, and holes were filled in, I checked again over the disturbed ground and again nothing. As I dug, I noticed distinct layers of ash, soil, gravel etc. so I knew the spoil had been dumped here and wasn't naturally occurring. Thanks again .... Scott
Chris Barrett I have found interesting bottle dumps on properties out west. Problem is you really need to know people on old stations etc.
If your beer bottle streak continues you will have to take up home brewing.
Nice finds, I'd like to know how you got the bottles so clean.
Hi Alfredo. Quite a few people ask me about cleaning the bottles. I use brick and masonry cleaner, bought at a local DIY store. It's supposed to be diluted, but I use it straight out of the bottle. Leave the bottle soaking in a plastic bucker for 3 days and Hey Presto! The gunk comes off with little trouble. Sometimes I still have to use a bottle brush or pipe cleaner for the insides of the small bottles, but after the above treatment, it doesn't take much work. This cleaner has nitric acid in it, and it's good for removing rust as well (and anything else it touches). ... Scott
Rusty Nails Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. Happy hunting.
I like that 4 ounce bottle and the pipes! I've never found a pipe. Nice video I subscribed!
Absolutely Facinating xxx great to find all these bottles. What do you do with them? Do you have them displayed?
looked to me worth doing more digging there
Wow. Thank you for the video. Fun.
I have dug up some bottles but I can't get them clean as yours can you help great video
The flat circular bottle looks like the old smelling salts bottles my aunt used to have
It appears you found a pharmacy dump.
looks like an old dump sight not from a road build
David Edwards
i love old poison bottles
Almost looked like my Sadler teapot.
How do you display your bottles at home? Very nice finds.
Hi Brenda. Thanks for your comment. I have a couple of shelves in the kitchen which was meant to be a rustic type decor, but as time goes on, it's looking more like a bottle storage area. Too many of the smaller bottles are in a box, but one day they will see daylight again... one day.
I know you probably hear this a lot my friend, but you should get a head mounted GoPro, 2 hands twice the work! lol
Good finds but I think the Road Commission might be a bit annoyed when the tarmac collapses into the bottle crater!
Ha ha - that was something that crossed my mind, but I did fill the holes in again. I went past there yesterday and as the dirt has dried, you probably wouldn't have known I'd been there. And fortunately no subsidence to the road either! ... Scott
So much bottles!
...and yet, another bottle.
Wow sooo many bottles
Hmmmm never know wht you'll find when you dig in the tavern's privy
Love your vid very enjoyable
How do you clean your bottles to get them so mint?.....I am dealing with loads of bottles that my husband finds here in Canada at old bottle dumps. Is there a special soap that you use? Or dishwasher first and a long brush for the insides...Thanks in advance for your reply..From a fan in Canada.🇨🇦
Hi and thanks for your comment. I use diluted brick and masonry cleaner from my local hardware store. I have a plastic bucket used only for this purpose, and when I have enough pieces, a place them in and add the water and cleaner. It has nitric acid in it, so you have to be careful. I let them soak for three days then use a pipecleaner on the smaller bottled or a bottle brush for the larger ones. Most of the gunk comes off relatively easily. I splashed some onto my aluminium sink once, and it went a strange colour. I dropped an old penny into a small test solution a few weeks back and it really ate away at the rust and corrosion to the point I could read the date. I only left in in overnight. Before that I was convinced the date had disappeared for good. This might not be recommended for coins, but so far it seems to work. Thanks again ... Scott
Not sure if you've been hunting down the Thames but I go walking down there often, I got a pretty good collection of detailed clay pipe bowls and bottles by the thousands. I don't dig just look into the breaking banks. People do dig there though. A friend of mine found a hand grenade and I found a ww2 bullet which was pretty cool. My favourite find is an China Victorian dog I found in really good condition. I find it difficult metal detecting these areas because of the amount of scrap metal but eyes only finds are really good!
One day I will make it to London and check out the Thames!
What did they called it? Bottled Ginger Snail?
Thanks for the video. One day you just might find something valuable.I once found $150 in an old candy tin.
Hi Deborah. Thanks for your comment. Some people dream of finding gold coins and rings etc. I think my dream is to find a tin of stuff, or a time capsule buried a century ago. Maybe one day....
what you though was an old battery, looks to me like a party popper.
phantomofoz
Thats what I thought. But is it made of plastic?
@@sarahstrong7174 it's definitely part of a old battery
@@bouncerslabrealnature9143 Thankyou for replying.
Awesome looking forward to seeing more
VERY NICE!
Great vid, thanks
excellent vid ,, great dump ,, wonder whats deeper ? I'm only allowed eyes only ware I go , the rabbits an badgers do the digging ..
I did dig deeper, but it seemed to be just some sort of red gravel.... Scott
Nice work, pal
Just stumbled across your channel, nice bottle hunting there, nice knowledge also 👍
