One is guaranteed to be red/orange/white depending on what dual color type it is in addition to whatever buff you would have received from striking the monster. Pretty much works like how kinsect worked in MHW iceborne when you gave your kinsect slinger ammo but better.
Get your palico and palimute set up with sleepand paralysis weapons, and your hunter with a blast insect glaive with a poison cloud kinsect and you have all the statuses at your disposel xD
So i finally understand why previous insect glaive videos capcom put out were so underwhelming, its because they knew if they showed its TRUE POWER that everyone would become glaive mains and thats not fair to the other weapons. Lol
god i cant believe this is better than nurturing your kinsect, it actually feels like you have a lot of options instead of sticking to an "ultimate" one
I hope they do bring back nurturing for one thing, improve the strength of the bug you like without losing its design. Always sucks to go from one bug style to the other just for more power, i was hoping originally for a layered kinsect but we'll see.
The kinsect layered actually sounds like a great idea tbh. While nurturing had this more customization feel (even though in Gen and GU the best kinsects were boring looking) it did make IG a lategame weapon because it was annoying to upgrade both glaive and kinsect on the early game to have it usable.
At first I was going to use SnS, but in another video Arkkz said that the demo hid all the cool stuff for IG. So I picked it up, and after seeing this video I am so glad I did!
Too bad they still made it 3x slower than it should be. It's clearly the best type by a long shot (by making the upkeep cost of gathering extracts easier, and by dealing 10x more damage than any other kinsect type since it'll simply attack with you passively and constantly) but it's still very frustrating that it is so slow to move when you want to gather. I know they did this for balancing purposes, but they should've chosen some other mechanic to balance with. No one's chosing one type of kinsect due to their speed, but rather their utility, so I wish speed wasn't locked behind arguably the worst kind of kinsect.

As a Insect Glaive main from MHW coming into Rise I was worried after the demo. But I’m so happy to see IG getting the love it deserves! Favorite weapon and the new assist types are my favorite as well! Not to mention we also get earplugs with full buff!

Also worth mentioning the Triple Up Time bonus. It gives a 20% boost in buff duration when fully powered up with all three extracts, taking it from 1:30 to 1:48.
The kinsect itself is half the overall weapon and should always be that way. In World (the only MH I played with IG, the others I played didn't have it). I relied heavily on the extensive options this weapon gave me. My first Nergigante I killed only with the kinsect since my general defense was not enough to resist the attacks of that monster. On other occasions, the kinsect finished off a monster that fled at the last moment. For me the kinsect is the third way to fight with an IG (the other two being ground attack and aerial attack). It seems like Rise understood that and I'm very happy to hear it.
Dual color (Defense), (Attack) and (Speed) simply means that one of the color the kinsect will grab is of the type in the parenthesis. So the Dual Color (Attack) will always bring back the attack color as one of its colors (if the kinsect hits a part that should award the color of its type, it instead grabs the color after)
Another thing about the kinsects is that they now share your weapon's element (instead of you adding it to them) and level up with your weapon (similar to the shell level on Gunlance).
Note, the normal types will keep up, stat wise and will always also heal you whenever returning with extract, much like the wirebug move does, but without needing to wirebug.
After getting the diving wyvern attack, I hardly focused on my powder kinsect anymore. Now I have an assist type kinsect that helps me deal more damage and collect 2 colors at once, which is very nice
I really like the new kinsect rework, so far I’ve been in love with rise ig mechanic! still bit sad it’s still fixated to appearance/type variation so I couldn’t have fun like building butterfly kinsect into assist type (they’re all gonna be speed type ig, I’m moth lover so it’d be nice to use them as assist type since it’s more of my style, really dig the valor-esque vibe here!) gotta buy switch and the game to get the fun myself soon.
IG main here taking notes. That's some cool stuff I'm still getting the hang of the new system vs the one from world. was weirded out at first when the kinsect didn't always auto attack. but i'm liking the new system. Less fluff grind.

From the video looks like dual color attack always grabs a red extract, and dual color speed always adds a white extract? If someone does some testing lemmie know what you find. :)
I was still unsure as to which melee weapon I wanted to pickup first and Insect Glaive was at the top of my list, this video convinced me for sure. The little I tried it I had a very basic kinsect and didn't realize all the new stuff. Super exciting !

Just started relearning IG in Rise, I personally love the Dual Color and Assist Kinsect rn, collecting is much more convinient, and its awesome to watch the kinsect fighting along side me.
Tasty new kinsect types, cool multi-hit switch skills, a very simple (yet satisfying to pull off) secondary silkbind move, and aerial damage that is as respectable if not more so than ground based damage? They did my baby gooooooood!
i kinda like how dual color was handled in this game. i just accidently discovered it in world recently and am now kicking myself for not finding it sooner as I mained glaive when playing rise on the switch

I picked up Lance as a secondary weapon in Iceborne and I ended up doing so many hunts with it over my Glaive. But baby, I'm coming back home once I get Rise.
Kinsects have been streamlined in such a nice way, however I do miss the systems from 4/4u/g/gx that allowed you to have an insane amount of customizability with the stats, but I do see that that old system was annoying as hell if you didnt get good rng. either way, loving the game and the changes.
Nice, I was looking for this. I was a huge fan of IGs, especially when they added the in-air diving move in Iceborn. I was a bit disappointed when they took the dive out (or made a very similar silkbind skill), but the more than made up for it with other features.
Might be a lil late for this, but: Normal type insects will heal you whenever you get 1 extract and recall it (pretty large heal too). Good for learning a new monster and survivability
You left out that dual attack/speed will always grab the mentioned extract + the color of the area you hit. So for dual attack, you need to aim for a white and an orange extract; while with dual speed you need to aim for a red and an orange extract.
Yeah I think this just made me become a insect glaive main. I was switching between dual blades and it, but I think I'm sticking with the glaive for good.
You can change the controls in the Switch settings itself under controller, i chnaged up my 2 back triggers with each other so now i aim with the left trigger and use wirebugg with the right one, way better imo
The kinsect part in the demo felt a bit lacking, as it was way too slow, but knowing that there are this new types of kinsect, I'm more hyped for the insect glaive and want to play it more than ever (also, the assist and dual color kinsect looks awesome.)
Assist kinsect is amazing. I don't know how great the damage is but it looks cool and is probably the most noob friendly option. Gathering buffs with it can be tough sometimes because the assist kinsects tend to be pretty slow but dual color helps a lot.
I love to use the Pulver Kinsect at the moment. Using a Paralyze Glaive and Poson/healing Kinsect is awesome. Oh btw, if you see 2 Comments talking about a "girls hacked twitter account" and a response saying something like "yeah it worked" please report them as spam, since these bots have appeared quite a lot lately.
i am still kinda salty that they nerved my favorite attack of the ig from world tbh but this video truly made me rethink my decision of dropping the ig
I do think that, for personal healing, Normal greatly outdoes the healing dust powder, and since their stats continue to level up, you'll be comparable to the other, rarer Kinsects overall. If you're comfortable marking with Pheremones and using Tornado Slash (and therefore cancelling endlag a lot with either launch or recall Kinsect), you can really rake in a lot of extra heals with Normal. I know the meta is based on kill speed and so it undervalues heals, but I find it a huge QOL upgrade.

When you get higher kinsect levels on your weapon, all your kinsect stats get better, so you aren't nerfing your kinsect performance by picking a rarity 1 kinsect instead of a level 4 kinsect in the way that you would if you stuck with an e.g. level 4 weapon instead of a level 7, even though both are 3 rarity levels apart.
Was tempted to go IG for my last slot in World, but having seen this and how you can get even more nimble in rise, i might wait until rise comes out on PC to give it a go
I need to look at the Glaives at some point...but...ugh, I'm having too much fun with the Charge Blade, I wasn't expecting this since I'm a Gunlance main. xD
I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't mention the rarity 2 kinsects at all, because while their power stats aren't as good, the unique abilities they have are still pretty cool. There's an assist type for defense as well, not just attack and speed, so if you have trouble getting orange quickly it can be pretty helpful, especially since it lets you grab both orange and white immediately before a monster's roar for the earplugs, and still have time to get red, which is easy since red is usually in a pretty accessible slot. Triple Up Time is also quite nice, since it gives you an extra 30 seconds of the triple buff, though you do sacrifice some kinsect damage for it. Finally, the poison and paralysis powder kinsects are nice because if you only want the status and don't care about the healing, or only want one of the two statuses because the monster is more susceptible to one than the other, it can be helpful to make all of your clouds only one type to maximize the effectiveness of that status specifically. I tested it and the poison/paralysis one does four blasts in a shorter time, 2 of each status, but the paralysis one does the same thing with all of the clouds being paralysis, albeit taking a bit longer. The bonus heal ones are probably still the worts overall because they have no special effects other than the healing, but that healing is still pretty nice, so they can still be kinda fun to use. Overall, the rarity 4 ones might still be better, but even if that's the case, i think you still should have at least mentioned the effects of the lower rarity kinsects, because they're quite interesting, and i think it's important to at least be aware they exist.
A very informative video that I for sure will be checking again when I get more than 2 kinsects to buy. But I am curious, is it possible to buy several kinsects and exchange them depending to what you want to do? Or it's still one kinsect per weapon?
Not going to lie the dual color is a must, honestly my least favorite part about IG is having to power it up with the kinsect, it feels very disruptive to combat for me. I would gladly take a 2 silk bug move to just give me all three.
I imagine blunt would be a little better, because if KO and blunt work the same way they have in the past, blunt damage also drains a monster's stamina. This is a nice bonus to have, much like the SNS' shield punch, which is good to do from time to time to tire the monster.
Aint gon lie i do miss being able to take care and grow my kinsects the way i like em but the choices available in this game are really good and kind of helps skip all the farming for upgrading nectars and all that
Justice for the IG! THIS is why I didn't jump on the dump IG bandwagon during the reveal trailer and demo, the IG is TWO weapons in one and they never revealed the Kinsect system. I liked feeding my Kinsect, but I LOVE this new versatility in it's behavior.
Rly love the new types! Especially since heal powder and explo power were almost exclusively used in Iceborne. Now the assissts type seems a way better offensive option than the "random" explosions. The charge type so far seems to be the weakest since it doesnt affect the hunter itself and rarely fits a basic combo (so far my opinion)
As an IG main i went straight into new glaive moves and ignore kinsects... nice to know about those double extract ones, those make huge differences against some monsters with the red extract placed on some hidden parts Anyways the best silent improvement to the glaive is Earplugs High with all extracts, significant buff compared to World
Cool, buying kinsects is gonna be convenient. I was fine with how kinsects upgrade in World, but I think back on how it worked in 4U and it really makes me wonder what they were thinking with that. I was scared to try the IG at first.
My guess was to make the bugs feel more unique. Like, you raised this bug and it's your special little bug. Similar to Pokémon with EVs and IVs -and also similar to Pokémon, people would just copy the "ultimate version".-

This is me actually, I started off as an HH main (one of the two weapons i loved since i started mh, the other being bow) and IG is really growing on me this gen.
Thanks so much ! Kinsects and there mechanics are such a mess ! Even since MH4, I had to find all the combos and mechanics by myself because (well capcom and tutorials....). I don't know about the english version of the game, but in french, I even got a different name for the same kinsect in the compendium and at the seller... Which made me even more confused (the support kinsect being "soutien" in compendium but "baroudeur" at the seller guy....). Even though the training area helped a lot, there were still some mehcanics I wasn't sure I understood well. ^^
Man hope we get the final fantasy dragon kinsect as an assist type, or at least a similar looking kinsect, maybe one that look like the Wolf from Spirit Blossome Kindred of League of Legends, that one would fit Rise theme well

IG hunters in Rise feel like Beast masters since they are using 3 companions. The Felyne, the Canyne and the Kinsect. A 4 man squad all in one.

well I bought the insect expecting it to last 4:30 minutes... VERY disapointed when I realised thats not the case.

Thank God for that! I hated trying to get red off some monsters. Small heads and flappy wings were tough to get around at times.

I am maining Incest glavie so this was really helpful I'm also going to use Hunting Horn on the side for some break dancing hunts
i would use the insect glaive but the aiming with right trigger is kinda annoying, should have the same layout and the ranged weapons

You can change the controls in the Switch settings itself under controller, i chnaged up my 2 back triggers with each other so now i aim with the left trigger and use wirebugg with the right one, way better imo

The kinsect part in the demo felt a bit lacking, as it was way too slow, but knowing that there are this new types of kinsect, I'm more hyped for the insect glaive and want to play it more than ever (also, the assist and dual color kinsect looks awesome.)
Assist kinsect is amazing. I don't know how great the damage is but it looks cool and is probably the most noob friendly option. Gathering buffs with it can be tough sometimes because the assist kinsects tend to be pretty slow but dual color helps a lot.
Decided to try out insect glaive today and was shocked to see kinects with two dust effects😵
I love to use the Pulver Kinsect at the moment. Using a Paralyze Glaive and Poson/healing Kinsect is awesome.

The Assist type reminds of Valor Glaive from GU. Very excited to try this out when my game arrives!
I do think that, for personal healing, Normal greatly outdoes the healing dust powder, and since their stats continue to level up, you'll be comparable to the other, rarer Kinsects overall. If you're comfortable marking with Pheremones and using Tornado Slash (and therefore cancelling endlag a lot with either launch or recall Kinsect), you can really rake in a lot of extra heals with Normal. I know the meta is based on kill speed and so it undervalues heals, but I find it a huge QOL upgrade.
when you mean level up do you mean the kinsect level on your weapon?

When you get higher kinsect levels on your weapon, all your kinsect stats get better, so you aren't nerfing your kinsect performance by picking a rarity 1 kinsect instead of a level 4 kinsect in the way that you would if you stuck with an e.g. level 4 weapon instead of a level 7, even though both are 3 rarity levels apart.

I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't mention the rarity 2 kinsects at all, because while their power stats aren't as good, the unique abilities they have are still pretty cool.
There's an assist type for defense as well, not just attack and speed, so if you have trouble getting orange quickly it can be pretty helpful, especially since it lets you grab both orange and white immediately before a monster's roar for the earplugs, and still have time to get red, which is easy since red is usually in a pretty accessible slot.
Triple Up Time is also quite nice, since it gives you an extra 30 seconds of the triple buff, though you do sacrifice some kinsect damage for it.
Finally, the poison and paralysis powder kinsects are nice because if you only want the status and don't care about the healing, or only want one of the two statuses because the monster is more susceptible to one than the other, it can be helpful to make all of your clouds only one type to maximize the effectiveness of that status specifically. I tested it and the poison/paralysis one does four blasts in a shorter time, 2 of each status, but the paralysis one does the same thing with all of the clouds being paralysis, albeit taking a bit longer.
The bonus heal ones are probably still the worts overall because they have no special effects other than the healing, but that healing is still pretty nice, so they can still be kinda fun to use.
Overall, the rarity 4 ones might still be better, but even if that's the case, i think you still should have at least mentioned the effects of the lower rarity kinsects, because they're quite interesting, and i think it's important to at least be aware they exist.
A very informative video that I for sure will be checking again when I get more than 2 kinsects to buy. But I am curious, is it possible to buy several kinsects and exchange them depending to what you want to do? Or it's still one kinsect per weapon?
Not going to lie the dual color is a must, honestly my least favorite part about IG is having to power it up with the kinsect, it feels very disruptive to combat for me. I would gladly take a 2 silk bug move to just give me all three.

I imagine blunt would be a little better, because if KO and blunt work the same way they have in the past, blunt damage also drains a monster's stamina. This is a nice bonus to have, much like the SNS' shield punch, which is good to do from time to time to tire the monster.
Aint gon lie i do miss being able to take care and grow my kinsects the way i like em but the choices available in this game are really good and kind of helps skip all the farming for upgrading nectars and all that

Justice for the IG! THIS is why I didn't jump on the dump IG bandwagon during the reveal trailer and demo, the IG is TWO weapons in one and they never revealed the Kinsect system. I liked feeding my Kinsect, but I LOVE this new versatility in it's behavior.

Rly love the new types! Especially since heal powder and explo power were almost exclusively used in Iceborne. Now the assissts type seems a way better offensive option than the "random" explosions. The charge type so far seems to be the weakest since it doesnt affect the hunter itself and rarely fits a basic combo (so far my opinion)

Im just so used to using Triple Up, Ive been having trouble choosing anything else.
As an IG main i went straight into new glaive moves and ignore kinsects... nice to know about those double extract ones, those make huge differences against some monsters with the red extract placed on some hidden parts
Anyways the best silent improvement to the glaive is Earplugs High with all extracts, significant buff compared to World
Cool, buying kinsects is gonna be convenient. I was fine with how kinsects upgrade in World, but I think back on how it worked in 4U and it really makes me wonder what they were thinking with that. I was scared to try the IG at first.
My guess was to make the bugs feel more unique. Like, you raised this bug and it's your special little bug. Similar to Pokémon with EVs and IVs -and also similar to Pokémon, people would just copy the "ultimate version".-
well i used to be an IG main but then i experienced this "dug dug dug" "swinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng" by long sword so i know this is really great even the dual buff but man that "sswwwwingg'" "dug dug dug" by long sword... you just cant beat that LOOOL

Now I may or may not be reconsidering that decision (and I couldn't be more excited)
This is me actually, I started off as an HH main (one of the two weapons i loved since i started mh, the other being bow) and IG is really growing on me this gen.
I am hoping DLC events add new kinsect types, like the Behemoth did for Monster Hunter World!

Thanks so much ! Kinsects and there mechanics are such a mess ! Even since MH4, I had to find all the combos and mechanics by myself because (well capcom and tutorials....).
I don't know about the english version of the game, but in french, I even got a different name for the same kinsect in the compendium and at the seller... Which made me even more confused (the support kinsect being "soutien" in compendium but "baroudeur" at the seller guy....).
Even though the training area helped a lot, there were still some mehcanics I wasn't sure I understood well. ^^

Man hope we get the final fantasy dragon kinsect as an assist type, or at least a similar looking kinsect, maybe one that look like the Wolf from Spirit Blossome Kindred of League of Legends, that one would fit Rise theme well
