- Top 10 Most Reused/Retooled designs (Movie Rankings) 20019. If there's 1 thing that's been a mainstay in the transformers franchise its the concept of remold/retooling. It's something that can prove to be a creative process or a downright lazy 1. Some characters may share similar features to others. But their standout personalities easily make you forget that they were even molded in another bot's image. But occasionally there are those robots who're simply reused as nothing more than a stand-in. What's up guys? My name is RBG, and welcome to another Transformers Top 10 video. This is something where we take the best and worst elements of the live action films and comprise them in top 10 rankings. For today's video I wanted to present a list of the most retooled robots in the live action TF universe. Because if we're gonna be honest there have been a lot of em. Whether it be re-used bodies or robots that have simply been recolored. As mentioned earlier retooling is nothing new when it comes to Transformers. It's been a thing since the Generation 1 era where we see our favorite characters share a similar sculpt with a newer addition to the roster. Essentially what retooling means is creating a newer version of a pre-existing Transformers toy by adding or removing parts or downright resculpting them completely. It's a word that's often confused with a more negative connotation called remolding. But it's always been a common practice. It's also something that Michael Bay is all too familiar with. In the first movie it seemed he and the design team would go outta their way to come up with distinctly different concepts for each robot. But over the years he would resort to refurbishing parts for additional characters in the sequels. So without further ado let's jump into the list.

They Bumblebee movie had such cool designs for the seekers. Way better than the first five films. Seeing Starscream in the battle on Cybertron looking like his classic self was such a treat.

Imagine there was another bumblebee movie were we see bruticus resimbling both his g1 and or wfc/foc forms. His arms (vortex and blast off) would have some weapons for the combined mode. Vortex's melee weapon for the arm mode would be a buzz saw, just like black out he would use main routier blades on his back as a weapon.
While blast off on the *other hand* 😁 his weapon for the arm would be a blaster and a flamthrower.
Maybe Grindor is Blackout, both blackout & Megatron's bodies were dropped into the ocean together.
Maybe the constructicons revived him too, just off screen.
That's a cool theory.

Never thought I would agree, but apparently in the RoTF videogame there are some voice lines for Optimus Prime in which he calls Grindor as Blackout's brother.
"Grindor, don't make the same mistake as your brother."
"Grindor has joined his brother!"
But transformers transform into anything that’s their size. Blackout was not a 50 foot tall robot. Black was near the size of Megatron. And in the comics they’re two different people.

Optimus went to the Gym a lot, and that's why the design of TF4 and 5 xd
Prime’s build was always like that, it just stood out more when he scanned the white truck
Gideon Freeman nah optimus got way more mass from that truck
Mahi zen nah Optimus became rusty because remember sentinla sliced his arm but next prime scanned a random truck but not rusty then became lockdown was hunting autobots but in transformers 4 at the start prime fighted lockdown but it did not show up at the movie it means optimus did scan the white truck already

bonecrusher, killed by murder prime in tf1 appears at operatiom firestorm, his alt mode is seen at the scene were the decepticon protoforms start arriving, however in that movie, his actual robot mode is never seen, crankcase and crowbar are reused too in tlk
Bonecrusher's design used for a nameless generic drone.
Bonecrushers robot form was in Revenge of the Fallen in the Background.
Bonecrusher killed Arcee in the movie.
His robot mode was in it but ok
dreadbot and berserkers are a part of the protoform family same as crankcase and crowbar called the dreads. thats why they look so similiar.

Just hoping that the “reused model” method of characterisation gets toned down in the Bee franchise.
It most likely won't. Let's face it, it's much easier for the people in charge to just give the certain designs retools than actually give each character a new look. Even some of the characters in Bumblebee had similar designs. Especially Clifjumpper to a degree.
It won't then it won't be sticking to source material.

True. Clifjumpper has been kinda derivative of Bumblebee for years now. Which is odd because I believe he came before Bumblebee, right?

The Decepticon protoforms never really bothered me. I always seen them as clones that Megatron and the Fallen literally just made for cannon fawder. And I kinda liked seeing them in the end of Dark of the Moon and then I got pretty excited when I seen they were in The Last Knight.
I never noticed the resemblence between Barricade and Sideways, but I'm goonna admit, I mistook Scavanger for Demolishor. I always thought Demolishor was a reused model for Devastator and that Scavanger was just a concept art that was left out of the film.

Blackouts killing spree is one of my earliest memories I can remember, that was one of my favorite scenes.
I Like That Little Detail Where Some Knights Died and The Dragon has Some Holes While in the First Scene With the Dragon there are no Holes

Since protoforms are the endoskeletons without transformation parts, wouldn't it make more sense that they looked more distinct when they had cybertronian vehicle modes?

It is was only available in IMAX. If you look up transformers revenge of the fallen full IMAX forest battle there are a few additional bits of action between optimus and starscream, that scene, and 1 other in the forest battle.

Blackout was dropped into the sea along with Megatron. The piece of the all spark emitted a shockwave which probably revived blackout and used some of the pieces of ravage. In the forest scene you can see oxidization on parts of “Grindor”.
Love the intro
I wish Shockwave in Bumblebee looked like himself from DotM, but it is what it is. That's my only gripe about that incredible scene.
long-haul didn't actually die in tf2, he wass severely damaged from the missile but was still barely alive. he was salvaged by scalpel at the end of tf2 and scalpel took his spark and head remains and built igor who would apear and die in tf3. the reason igor is so different personality wise to long-haul is because his spark was so damaged that it reset him to a crazy, super loyal scrap bot. the big lump of parts on his back is where his spark is. rip long haul

I try to provide captions for specific demographics that watch my videos.
I get the reason why the Protoforms were so numerous in the original film series. They were nothing more than troopers to fill the ranks of the Decepticon and Autobot armies, while the main characters served as almost officers and commanders of the battlefield, standing out from the crowd. But, there should’ve been various Protoform designs in order to show different specializations within their forces. If the Grand Army Of The Republic from Star Wars can have various Clone Trooper ranks within it’s army, why can’t the Protoforms have that?
Can you do a video explaining beast wars and how it came to be transformers now ?
Nemesis Prime is another great example of a retool in th G1 series

Can you do a video about transformations of both decepticons and autobots.
Similarities between bots could be explained by the fact that they are non organic and are probably made in generations and models but due to the fact that most of the cybertronian population died in the war we only get to see a few "lookalikes"who were actually part of the same generation on their planet. In the Bumblebee movie they elude to the fact that they are made to fulfill specific roles which explains why bee has no moving face parts in like the others as he was built to fight and didn't require those other parts.
I really hope the new movies will be more consistent

Any hopes for the future of the Movie-Verse RBJ?
I hope they don't do away with some of the aspects of the previous films such as so action segments. The fights throughout these movies do a good job at depicting just how much of a callosal force the Titans really are and how much of a threat they can be if they aren't thoughtful to the area around them. Maybe focus more on that latter part.
And especially give the Transformers a bit more of a relationship with their home planet just as much as Earth in the previous films.
The thing that disappointed me about Dark of The Moon was that it felt like a solid movie that had a lackluster ending. The Autobots and Deceptions should have definitely been more emotional about having the remains of their home planet be destroyed right in front of them due to their neverending war. It would've made Megatron's push for a truce seem a lot more justifiable rather than two timey.
Just some thoughts.
I just hope they give us an update where they're gonna take the films in the future. Its almost like Paramount doesn't know it they wanna fully reboot it or continue from the Bay lore.

Agreed. If they want to reboot the franchise, I have no problem with that. The old films had their time in the sun and people want something a little different for the films. But I'd feel a lot more comfortable about if they just gave the original films a proper conclusion with a comic run or something of the characters actually taking on Unicron. Just to give the old fans of the movies some closure.

But yes I didn't like the idea of remolding one design into something different, it works well sometimes like in the original g1 transformers series starscream, thundercracker, skywarp and then the 3 conheads, ramjet, thurst and derge.

Fun fact: the oreo bot in tf4 shares a very similar head design to long haul
not just the first 3 films, in the manga, the creator wanted anything having to do with war be the decepticons alt mode and civilian cars as the autobot alt modes.
3:40 I think their making those because their origin story is that while the autobost where supposed to be miners, the decepticons were elite military forces... Thats even the reason they can enter fly mode.

I mean, I can vouch for the protoforms because obviously the decepticons are the bad guys. I don't think they care enough to get a new form or not. They only have one purpose, to destroy Earth. Other than that, you're pretty much right about everything else. I still love the series though.

You missed two instances in the previous live action universe, Skywarp in Transformers: human alliance is just a recolour of Starscreem with a different head, and is pretty badass, he actually uses his teleporting ability and forces Optimus to use his jetpack and goes out guns blazing. The other is Sunstreaker, who is a recolour and retool of Sideswipe, swapping out the twin blades for two wrist mounted miniguns, and that's about it
Oh, year, there's also Wreakloose, a recolour of Sideways and a few others
I thought about going all out with the live action universe. But felt it best to just stick to the movies as opposed to the tie in comics.

The robot in cuba is Topspin there is a website that you can vote on a deatmatch between Decepticons or Autobots and one is the picture of Topspin and Leadfoot head and it said that it was Topspin so yeah.

The laziest is Topspin with Leadfoot's head. Since Topspin was the only Wrecker to not talk they probably never had his head ready to be animated so when they wanted to give him dialogue in TF5 they just slapped on Leadfoot's head that was already rigged and modeled to be able to talk, because they were too lazy to make Topspin's head animated
Funny that,the difference of size from blackout to grindor is that,grindor doesnt have compressed legs
Blackout's legs are bent like chicken legs, while grindor is smort (yes i misspelled that on purpose) and streetches his legs to their full extension-
