Good thing that vinegar syndrome titles have a special protective layer that makes them immune to disc rot, amongst other things.
They know how to treat REAL collectors my guy!
like taste.
Disc rot is INTERNAL. And it happens here and there, but not that often. So this guy in the video has some agenda that requires him to make it an issue it isn't.
At best he doesn't store them correctly.
@@retrofun41 it’s about the value my guy!
@@jnagarya519 It’s just a fact my guy! The DVD era is long past dead!
I havent heard this from any fellow collectors or on any groups whatsoever.... I regularly watch my DVDs and havent seen this with any discs at all...
Give it time my guy!
Just lost a set of John Wayne films on DVD on Warner and one BR, "The Descendents".
This kills the hard media vs streaming argument.
But it's not as apocalyptic as he is acting. I still have DVDs over 20 years-old and have no issues.
@@nicholasthill7151 It’s only a matter of time before it spreads to the rest my guy! Just sharing the news!
Same here.
This guy is full of shit.
Just rip the discs put discs in storage
Funny how all of my 350+ 25-40 year old Laserdiscs, ALL have ZERO disc rot. Very weird this mysterious disc rot attacking his DVD's, have skipped the 10,000's+ of Laserdiscs we LD collectors arent experiencing except in a handful of titles well known for their issues with disc rot....
Any thoughts on my comments?
Laserdisc is not a REAL collectors format my guy!
They just don't make em like they used to I guess

Is this method acting at its absolute finest? Props. "Disease tnat starts at DVD and spreads to BluRay" Someone call Anthony F@uci and get CDC on the case. I'm sure for $1 a pop people can enjoy some cheap discs whether you wanna take cheesy and grim to a whole new level. Oscar worthy acting chops.
Just letting the peeps know about this awful pandemic my guy!
@@slipcoversteve I thought you were sorta trolling at first but I appreciate your passion for this topic. I wonder when the last DVDs will go out with rot? 2045?
Probably 2024 my guy!
i am very worried that the landfills will be so full of dvds that there isn't going to be any room left anywhere on earth for our blu rays when it comes time to throw those away
This is a real problem my guy! My theory is the landfill and dump people are involved so they can expand their land and triple their dump profits!
@@slipcoversteve i don't even believe in democracy anymore with everything going wrong for collectors like this
@@sam_biblythe politicians have no respect for collectors trying to make it through life my guy! If they did Walmart would be a reasonable place to get boutique releases!
Buying 100 DVDs and being able to watch the film, for $30 (3/$1.00 at my 3 local thrift stores) makes way more sense than (3) 4K movies for the same price.
Until those DVD’s start costing you money my guy! They dip in value every second. My 4k’s with slips keep going up.
If you don't care about sound or image quality then go for it. But sound and image quality mean a lot to me.
@@Mike-fs3bv sound is fine on DVD's and I care much more about audio than video. I still love watching vhs tapes.
@@slipcoversteve how are items I already own costing me money exactly?
This is why it’s the collectors format my guy!
Believe it or not, in 1997 I already knew that blu-rays were coming out in the near future. At the time, they were referred to as "Blue Laser Discs". I remember back in 1997, telling a guy who already had dozens of DVDs that they would very soon be obsolete and he wasn't too happy about this. I didn't know about disc rot at the the time, but I did hear about it in the early 2000's and as a result I never bought too many discs. Also since the early 2000's, we all knew there would inevitably be some sort of streaming technology in the near future (we thought it would be called "internet tv"), which was another reason not to buy too many discs. I have 1 CD, 3 DVDs and less than 20 blu-rays. And yes, I do expect them all to rot away at some point. I also don't like having shelves of hundreds of movies that nobody will ever watch. It's a waste of space. I know you were being a little over the top, but I agree with you. I still want to keep some physical media for nostalgia's sake, like some Phantom Menace film cells I have and the original star wars trilogy on VHS before it was THX enhanced. Some people might say, "disc rot only affects some discs." Yes, that is true, for now. However, the number of discs that will succumb to disc rot will go up exponentially as time goes by. There already is a lot and very soon will be even more people with shelves filled with hundreds of pieces of useless plastic.
Very true my guy! That’s why I’m dipping out in 3-5 years and making that cash!
There was one studio that had a major problem with rot years ago can't remember which one it was. Have not heard of blu-ray rot.
It begins my guy!
HAHAHAH what do you keep ur dvd in a fridge? never heard anything so ridiculous in my life1
I keep them in the trash my guy!
Well there you go, that’s your problem, all my dvd some 20 years old I can still watch with no problem, sorry you have this experience that’s sucks, u lucky pal.
It’s time for DVD to go anyway my guy!
I guess, I buy uhd now but my dvds in my collection aren’t going anywhere and they are definitely not rotting! Nothing wrong with mine! I don’t think it know anyone who has experienced this. Like I said must be how some people don’t take care of things 🤷♂️
@goldau856 I would still reccomend checking all those discs my guy! Probably half are rotted by now l.
The only thing I’ve heard which seems to be more than rumours are DVDs made by Warner Bros from 2006 to 2009. Many WB rotting disc issues have been reported and all these were all released during that period.
That’s simply the start my guy!
@@slipcoversteve I should’ve read your channel description in the first place 🤤 now it figures.
Reading is for dorks my guy! That’s probably the most insane thing I’ve read all day!
Yea we're going to need to monitor this closely. Cashin out right before the ROT sets in
I am looking every day my guy! It’s only a matter of time!
As a game collector, this scares me! I've even seen rot on a BR disc. Thankfully it wasn't a game or anything of high value. It was my Bad Grandpa 2013 Blu-ray DVD combo set that has a spot of rot on the BR disc. The DVD is surprisingly okay though.
You should be very scared my guy! It’s spreading like wild fire!
Should I send you my collection ?
If it’s DVD don’t bother my guy!
So much talk and not a single image of a DVD that actually looks like this was shown. I have a library with more than 3000 DVDs and not one of them has had any problems to date. But I already know what they'll always say afterwards, it's the old speech of "wait for it to happen one day... one day!!!" This story always reminds me of second-hand DVDs that I find scratched and I can't even understand how the hell it was possible to make those scratches. Take care of your DVDs, store them in good condition and you won't have to worry about this for the rest of your life. And it is not because you eventually come across one or another DVD with problems of this type that this "is a problem that is spreading".
My guy if you would just open your ears you would’ve heard that I put all the DVD’s In the trash. Listen my guy!
@@slipcoversteve You're just confirming what I just said, not even an image from a DVD!!! You threw them away! OK! But that's exactly what I'm saying! Not even a picture of a DVD with problems to show! It would be much more interesting to actually make a video showing all this scourge than not showing anything at all. This is one of the biggest urban myths that has been talked about and there are always people telling the same story, over and over again. Disc rot only happens on discs manufactured cheaply and with manufacturing defects (where it is most visible is on CDs) and on discs subject to extremely aggressive storage conditions such as heat, humidity and others (and even this is not a sign that may cause problems).
@AphonsoLuis I threw away the DVD’s long ago my guy! Those have ZERO value! The dumps are filling up my guy!
He's not showing any dvds with disc rot because none of his dvds have disc rot.

That’s the smartest thing I’ve read in a long time my guy! Someone is waking up!
I've experienced a low level of disc rot on dvd so far, but there's been a few here and there. Definitely not 95% of them. Blu-ray I've had zero issues. VHS still running strong too, a dud here and there, but most remain playable 20 + years on..
You need to double check my guy! The disease is spreading!
I dont have any DVDs with disc rot that ik of, I have over 1k so its a bit hard to tell, but one thing I did and I reccomend everyone do if you truly care about your DVDs. Download DVD decrypter and IMG burn, both are free and super ez to use. It alllows you to make exact duplicate DVDs/back ups. I did this with pretty much all my hard to find stuff and or stuff that hasnt gotten an hd release. On that note the first DVD I ever burned back in 2008(Pineapple Express) still works and plays fine and thats burnable media not studio/factory released. I believe a lot of it has to do with how your storing and keeping them. If your sticking them in a box and throwing them in a basement for instance, chances are in a few years moisture will and other things will ruin your discs. As far as this happening to blu rays, i dont agree with that at all. Vhs, laserdiscs and DVDs though yes, i`ll just say ive been lucky. But thinking its going to happen to blu rays and not 4ks is kind of stretching it. 4ks are blurays
My guy 4K is imbue so far. Ben checking all discs and not a thing wrong yet!
