  • The Lark Ascending is one of the most performed and loved works in the classical repertoire. With its subtle use of pentatonics, written-out violin improvisations and references to English folk music, the work has a deeply nostalgic feel. This performance was the dutch premiere of the version for solo violin and string orchestra last July in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Subscribe here: bit.ly/subscribeAmsSin

He wrote this classic because he saw the demise of the English identity and culture.... he would be devastated if he could see it now .. heartbreaking

Sublime piece. Played by a female violonist, the touch is smoother than a man. But I must say that a prefer the masculine stronger play, like Jack Liebeck's version with Voce8. Although in the very high notes, here Thompson makes it sound cleaner.
