What I figured out was that I was using too much balm/butter. I use less amounts of this. Also, on my rinse days I use a mixture of ACV (apple cider vinegar) and water in a spray bottle, this for me works with cleaning my beard without stripping and also helps with knots and split ends.
I think the over use of beard products, especially oil, for most people is caused by the pressure from beard oil companies. Especially those companies that have monthly subscriptions. These make people think that one bottle is a month supply, which for most beards is too much.
Great point! I haven't seen any pressure from companies with that method, but I could see someone using too much if they were trying to keep up. Similar to what Leo referenced, 1 dropper a day is about a bottle a month. So anyone with a shorter beard is likely not using a bottle a month. Anyone with a 4-6 inch plus beard though is likely using more than a bottle a month.

I have been growing my beard for a while and I think after watching your video I realized something important! When you start your beard journey you are advised to use only 2-3 drops of beard oil. I have not adjusted the quantity at all but my beard is about 4 inches long. So I just put half a dropper of beard oil in and already noticed a big difference! Thanks mate
Relating my personal experience. I'm in the 4-inch beard range. In my experience, I've tried 1/2 dropper and I'm left with flyaways. When I use an almost full dropper (same styling) I get better results. But, it depends on the brand of oil. I have one oil with a short dropper, then another oil with a long dropper, then another oil that doesn't have a dropper (just pour into my palm and hope for the right amount LoL). Plus, with a dryer gray-beard, Dan C and others recommend a little extra oil or a Thicker oil. As Dan says in the earlier reply below, he's not a fan of blanket instructions. Me neither. Like Dan says, enjoy the journey (because we're all unique).
I find I really have to limit the products because I will overuse them. For instance the benefit I was getting from beard balm was not worth even applying anymore due to the greasy feeling and weight I felt afterwards. I am now only using oil and butter and my beard is happy. I use wash and conditioner twice a week. I'm trying to keep it simple but as mentioned there is no shortage of beard companies sending discount codes or new product notifications! Many people may use more product than necessary, because they want to use up their collection. All of these products can be used on the skin and hair. So instead of over using products on your facial hair, consider using them in your head hair and on your arms if you want to slim down your collection a little quicker.
I’ve discovered that Beardbrand beard oil in particular makes an excellent moisturizer after a head shave. One pump of the pumper top is just right for the right amount of moisturizing without making me look too oily or shiny. I use an alcohol based aftershave as an astringent (usually from Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements) followed by a squirt of the Beardbrand beard oil. But for in the beard itself I usually prefer Luxurious Bastard or Black Rebel or sometimes Detroit Grooming.

Create encapsulation Dan. My initial use of beard oil was found confusing. It was my first medium beard and the second one of my 59 years. I decided to go 1 week without beard oil to get a feeling of what the difference was between oil and no oil. At the end of the week it was dry but not yet brittle. At 4 inches in length I’ve started off with four drops of oil and increasing slowly to find my best amount while employing the 30 minute check.

Perfect timing. I just happened to use oil only the other day before work. Beard felt good and voluminous. I thought hmm weird. Then I seen this and I have been using too much butter. Doesn't style and doesn't feel quite right. Dialed down using half of what I did before and all is good now! Went from half a thumbnail down to just a pea sized amount.

Using too much has always been an issue for me, especially when I used balm. Lots of stains. I don’t use balm anymore and according to you I actually do t use too much oil. Still get some stains though. I dry it really well when styling and even though my beard feels very dry during the day it still happens.
I always treat my beard like my head hair and go for just a little bit rather than too much. If it needs more, then I can always do more but just not all at once and it works for me!
I definitely over used oils and butters when I first started using products. It came down to learning the properties of the different products (light/heavy oil, the carrier blend itself) and how they interacted with my beard - lots of trial and error. I've been using a favorite thin beard oil since the beginning of my bearded journey and my beard soaks it all up within minutes. The scent is very light, so adding more hasn't made it overpowering, but I don't want to overdo it. I wouldn't say my beard is dry, but a bit on the dryer side. Most importantly, I do want to make sure my beard is healthy, so I've ordered a medium viscosity non-scented oil and should have it to try out in a few days. Need to dial in a slightly different routine to make sure the new oil works for me. Curious to see the difference in how it soaks in, how my beard styles, and how it feels. Again, just wanting to make sure my beard is as healthy as possible. Thanks Dan for the constant advice in your videos on how to achieve that. Jim Parry

My beard is 7" right now. The amount I use depends on the viscosity of the product. Thinner oil I use slightly over a dropper, thicker I use slightly less than a full dropper.
Along with using the right amount of beard oil, I think its important to make sure it also spread evenly. Currently doing about a full dropper beard oil on my 5" grey beard...but I apply it as 1/2 dropper to each side of my face then a quick combing followed by brushing it in up, then sideways both directions, up again, then finally down.

A weekly routine video would be helpful. I’ve seen a lot of individual things but with so many products it’s hard to keep track. I also have a super curly beard. There is no skipping any styling because I’ll look homeless real quick. I try to be gentle with tools but still see a a lot of breakage. Rarely get beard pimples any more thanks to these videos.
Hey Vincent. Mine would be pretty simple: Every single day = morning shower with beard wash, followed by conditioner every other day, and one of the days is a stripping wash. Outside of the shower is beard oil, wait 5 minutes, heat. Then at night I rinse my beard and add beard butter. That's it!

I also like your advice for solid products, although I seldom use them. Achieving goals and listening to your beard is vital advice!

Just want to point out that sometimes beard pimples doesn't always necessarily mean too much beard oil. While I love Fable as a company, I can't use their oil, because coconut oil breaks me out. In some cases it could be oil type, not oil amount.
Hi Dan. One thing I've noticed over the years is that I use different amounts of oil based on the company. One dropper of oil does not necessarily equal 1 dropper from another company based on blend, viscosity and such. I let my beard tell me how much to use.
I used to much when 1st started now I know how much to use. I also use different amounts when viscosity is different. If I use to much I get pimples under beard

I feel like I've been over doing the heat, I keep having to relearn the less is more over and over... I obsessively try to get rid of a certain dip, then end up over doing the heat routine... Time to back off...
I used to be really bad about using too much product. With oil I always went with whatever filled a dropper top.With balm I was so insecure about the beard that I would load it up to try to keep it in place. Funny thing is I look at pics and I cringe cause of how bad it looked. Learning the right amounts for me made a massive difference. Keep up the great work, my friend!

Dan, you helped me a lot recently when I realized I was using too much conditioner. In my mind I was washing everyday due to dirt, so I figured I also needed to condition everyday. Now that I have switched to every other day my beard isn't so weighed down. Such a simple thing that in theory was good, but was hurting styling. Now my beard has more volume and looks more natural if that makes sense.
@@DanCBearded For sure! Something so simple, that at the surface I thought I was doing properly. It is crazy just how much information there is to learn about just beards.
One indication that you are using too much is to look at your cellphone screen after talking to someone with it up to your face. I once looked at mine and it was as I had dropped it in a bucket of Vaseline. That was several hours after application. Also be aware that to much can possibly make your beard more flammable.
Awesome video Dan. Thanks for the info. I’ve found that when I use too much butter my beard feels gunky and greasy. I have also found that I have to use more oil with the cheaper “Amazon” type brands to achieve the same result with the higher quality brands.
With butter I think a good comparison for the hand feel is if you run your hand through your hair and your hand feels soft and dusty your good, If it's slick and oily thats a bit much.
Another really useful and informative video Dan, thank you. I've probably over-oiled on occasion - it really depends on what you are using. Normal oil is sort of easy to control in terms of amount, but if people try things like the beard jelly from Bossman Brands, for example, it can be trickier to work out since it feels like it's almost designed to give that oily shine to a beard. The only thing I worked out was that you can approach optimal product amount from below, and sneak up on it. In other words, you can always add a little bit more but you most definitely cannot remove too much - at least not without reshowering/rinsing/washing. So when I try something new in the beard, I err on the side of too little, see the effect, add a bit more if needed and repeat until I know I am where I need it to be.
Your timing with this video is crazy! I noticed this weekend I have two small pimples in my mustache area. I almost NEVER get beard pimples. Maybe have had them 2-3 other times ever since starting this journey. But I had to stop and think after watching this….oh yeah I’ve been applying castor/peppermint oil every night right at that spot! Well I guess that tells me I’m overdoing it! Also yes, 100% when I first started using beard oil I was using probably even more than I do now with an 8 inch beard compared to a month old beard lol!! That’s learning!
I've stripped my product usage down to solely beard oil (in the morning after a shower, 3 or 4 drops) and occasionally moustache wax if I feel it's not playing ball haha. I'm done with beard balm and beard wax, they make my beard feel heavy and all clogged up. I also prefer the light scent of a nice beard oil as opposed to the sometimes overpowering scent of beard balms and butters.
Great video as always. Part of my beard journey has been working out which products to use and how much. One thing worth remembering is that hair type plays a big part as well. As an older guy with a grey beard I find I need to use a little more to get the same level of softness and manageability. My beard seems to soak up more oil than it used to.

I use too much beard oil I think, but I like the smell. I'm afraid I won't smell myself if I use less. But I'm gonna try your 30 minute method and if I see improvement in growth, maybe I'll stick to that.
I live in a very dry climate, and have naturally dry skin, so I probably use more beard oil than many people. But it absorbs quickly & completely so it seems like a good amount to me.

Like most newbs I started out using way too much… had all the problems listed and then dialed back from there … still maybe a little heavy on the oil esp non condition days but my beard soaks it right up.. water intake can affect this. Cheers!
Yes I have been using 1 dropper of oil. Butter I have been using in morning for my harsh work climate and nasty factory air. Of course I use it at night as well but use less butter on my sideburn areas so I don't get close to accidentally applying on my skin and how hard I sleep on my sides.
What helped me stop using too much I started buying the cologne as well. I know beard products is mainly for the health of your beard but I also purchase for the scent as well. I would catch myself after a certain amount of time reapplying because the scent was gone (I know you can go nose blind but my wife couldn't smell it as well)
I always battle using too much. I am the epitome of more is better. I really want any scent to last and be strong so that's part of it. Also I'm close to finishing quite a few oil bottles currently so I tend to use a bit more to try to wrap them up and make room for more, haha! I'm not using way too much, I'm just making sure I get plenty, and a bit on my wrists for the scent.
I always forget to not put the balm/butter on the skin part of my beard. I sometimes will have a greasy neck which I've gotten better at being more careful. Could you talk your favorite foods? What foods to avoid/intake for beard growth an health? Also if your out for a date an your going to eat foods that may get in your beard, maybe give so hints or tricks to avoid or clean your beard while out in public if you do dirty your beard
Along with lighter beard oils during the humid times, the heavier oils just weigh my beard down and just looks greasy. I did try using beard butter last night before I went to bed and woke up with it feeling softer. Only drawback is it felt heavier but I also did my same routine of oil, style, then a dime size of beard butter. It feels better at the moment just a little heavier. Beard is over 6 inches long and going for close to your length so every day is a learning curve as it grows out
I've definitely noticed the greasy beard in the past. Especially with thicker oils. Now I'll put in about 3/4 of a dropper after the shower in the morning, then wait 5 mins and have kind of figured out through trial and error what it should feel like. If it's not right, I'll add a few more drops before blow drying.

Always wondered if I was using too much butter because I could definitely feel it in the beard. Glad you cleared it up that it will never fully absorb. I tried using significantly less butter a few times and it was just dry and barely felt like I had anything in there at all. So I think I dialed it down to a happy medium to where it still feels decent but doesn't make me feel like I'm buttering my beard up for the grill or something 😂
I will definitely stop “pushing” the butter into, or on the inner beard, or too close to my skin. Although my white, gray beard is soft, and healthy. As my beard gets longer, just started using balm to tame and style the flyaways.
Oh brother it's why i really like my coconut virgin oil, i'm using it almost everywhere, skin/beard/face/hair/cooking/diet. It makes my skin feel softer, my beard feel hydrated, it makes my hair shine, and it also helps a little with the growing.
I have had issues with applying my oil evenly and using to much in the process, Making it harder to wash out and being to heavy applied...I've tried using diffrent washes that have seemed to help alot with stripping the products from my beard.
I can probably be accused of using to little beard oil but have picked that up a bit. As far as butter I know I use to little but by design, I'm just not a big butter user.
Takes awhile to figure out right amounts. Personally I know I have to use more product using grave before shave beard oil compared to using Artius man. Can definitely tell a difference after styling if I used too much or not enough. Personally I do not like how many videos recommend only a few drops of oil because I have yet to find an oil that does the job with only 5 drops.
When I put on my leave in hydrate beard oil and beard balm a ich a little more then I try to wipe the residue that’s on my hands on my body skin and head hair and it’s still some left so less is more lol😊
Should you always rinse out beard butter? I use it most nights, but don't always shower in the AM. I am noticing slow growth and losing a few more hairs than normal, so I'll be trying to dial it in over the next couple of weeks 👍
When I started growing my beard out, went an bought all the products, was to scared to use them as I was using coconut oil only, i was convinced that was the answer, i kept breaking out with rashes all under my beard and scalp, stop using the coconut oil and used Dermarest psoriasis shampoo, worked amazing, the beard rash and itch was unbearable, the shampoo cleared it up in an hour, saved my beard amd sanity. Started using beard products liberally, didn't want to break out again. The comb away from the skin and product off the skin i leanred from taking it slow. One day went hard with the comb and broke out in that area. Definitely a learning curve an process.
I said I’d apply your tests. 4 drops (of Doctor Nick’s…) filled the bill for my 4 inch beard. This is a good test when starting a different brand of beard oil, just in case there is some variation. If I remember, I will use the test again then. But that could be at least 5 months from now, as I don’t rotate. (Standard estimate is 600 drops/ounce. 600/4=150. 150/30=5 months.)
I spoke too soon. 4 drops turned out to be too little. I probably misinterpreted a previous test, so I’ll try 6 tomorrow. The test is looking better than ever.
I’m getting hooked on the test. 6 drops okay after 30 minutes - not certain my hands had absolutely no oil. Beard still soft after 4.5 hours. I think it’s about what I’ve nearly always used. Good to keep in mind when weather changes or a different beard oil brand is used.

The subscription is cool to those who don’t have a collection. I feel once you reach prob over 50 oils it’s like aight now lol.

I think I've made just about every mistake one can make when it comes to use of beard products. From massaging beard balm and butter into the skin, to using too much product; having beard pimples, beardruff. I am so glad I found your channel and learned how to do things the right way!

Using too much has always been an issue for me, especially when I used balm. Lots of stains. I don’t use balm anymore and according to you I actually do t use too much oil. Still get some stains though. I dry it really well when styling and even though my beard feels very dry during the day it still happens.
Super interesting! The stains from be coming from when you first apply the product and have your shirt on or put your shirt on
I always treat my beard like my head hair and go for just a little bit rather than too much.
If it needs more, then I can always do more but just not all at once and it works for me!

I definitely over used oils and butters when I first started using products. It came down to learning the properties of the different products (light/heavy oil, the carrier blend itself) and how they interacted with my beard - lots of trial and error. And I have to learn again every time I try a new product or brand. It's part of the fun (and the science of it, I love) that goes along with the beard journey. I've been using a favorite thin beard oil since the beginning of my bearded journey and my beard soaks it all up within minutes. The scent is very light, so adding more hasn't made it overpowering, but I don't want to overdo it. I wouldn't say my beard is dry, but a bit on the dryer side. Most importantly, I do want to make sure my beard is healthy, so I've ordered a medium viscosity non-scented oil and should have it to try out in a few days. Need to dial in a slightly different routine to make sure the new oil works for me. Curious to see the difference in how it soaks in, how my beard styles, and how it feels. Again, just wanting to make sure my beard is as healthy as possible. Thanks Dan for the constant advice in your videos on how to achieve that. Jim Parry

My beard is 7" right now. The amount I use depends on the viscosity of the product. Thinner oil I use slightly over a dropper, thicker I use slightly less than a full dropper.

Along with using the right amount of beard oil, I think its important to make sure it also spread evenly. Currently doing about a full dropper beard oil on my 5" grey beard...but I apply it as 1/2 dropper to each side of my face then a quick combing followed by brushing it in up, then sideways both directions, up again, then finally down.

A weekly routine video would be helpful. I’ve seen a lot of individual things but with so many products it’s hard to keep track. I also have a super curly beard. There is no skipping any styling because I’ll look homeless real quick. I try to be gentle with tools but still see a a lot of breakage. Rarely get beard pimples any more thanks to these videos.
Hey Vincent. Mine would be pretty simple:
Every single day = morning shower with beard wash, followed by conditioner every other day, and one of the days is a stripping wash. Outside of the shower is beard oil, wait 5 minutes, heat. Then at night I rinse my beard and add beard butter. That's it!
Thank you! I didn’t remember your 30 minute test for beard oil, but I will apply it now. I’ve seen a range of recommendations from sources I trust, but not a way to validate them. I also like your advice for solid products, although I seldom use them. Achieving goals and listening to your beard is vital advice!

Just want to point out that sometimes beard pimples doesn't always necessarily mean too much beard oil. While I love Fable as a company, I can't use their oil, because coconut oil breaks me out. In some cases it could be oil type, not oil amount.

Hi Dan. One thing I've noticed over the years is that I use different amounts of oil based on the company. One dropper of oil does not necessarily equal 1 dropper from another company based on blend, viscosity and such. I let my beard tell me how much to use.
Very true! Viscosity plays a big part. Generally speaking, light oils require a little more, and thin oils a little less. Great point Dave!
I used to much when 1st started now I know how much to use. I also use different amounts when viscosity is different. If I use to much I get pimples under beard

I feel like I've been over doing the heat, I keep having to relearn the less is more over and over... I obsessively try to get rid of a certain dip, then end up over doing the heat routine... Time to back off...

I used to be really bad about using too much product. With oil I always went with whatever filled a dropper top.With balm I was so insecure about the beard that I would load it up to try to keep it in place. Funny thing is I look at pics and I cringe cause of how bad it looked. Learning the right amounts for me made a massive difference. Keep up the great work, my friend!

thxs Dan as always ..great info ,,as for oil ..my beard is all white ,grey hairs ...don't seem to have a problem of to much ,,,but NOT enough,,lol and also notice ,,,i use both blow dryer or heated brush ( not at the same time ) ..but with the grey hairs ..the h. brush works alot better ,,keeps the fiy aways down ... great info on all ur vids ...!!!

Dan, you helped me a lot recently when I realized I was using too much conditioner. In my mind I was washing everyday due to dirt, so I figured I also needed to condition everyday. Now that I have switched to every other day my beard isn't so weighed down. Such a simple thing that in theory was good, but was hurting styling. Now my beard has more volume and looks more natural if that makes sense.

One indication that you are using too much is to look at your cellphone screen after talking to someone with it up to your face. I once looked at mine and it was as I had dropped it in a bucket of Vaseline. That was several hours after application. Also be aware that to much can possibly make your beard more flammable.
Very true, if you are using only oil. If you use balm, butter, or wax, unfortunately your phone will get greasy every time
Awesome video Dan. Thanks for the info. I’ve found that when I use too much butter my beard feels gunky and greasy. I have also found that I have to use more oil with the cheaper “Amazon” type brands to achieve the same result with the higher quality brands.

With butter I think a good comparison for the hand feel is if you run your hand through your hair and your hand feels soft and dusty your good, If it's slick and oily thats a bit much.
I have never had my beard feel dusty with beard butter, interesting!
Another really useful and informative video Dan, thank you. I've probably over-oiled on occasion - it really depends on what you are using. Normal oil is sort of easy to control in terms of amount, but if people try things like the beard jelly from Bossman Brands, for example, it can be trickier to work out since it feels like it's almost designed to give that oily shine to a beard.
The only thing I worked out was that you can approach optimal product amount from below, and sneak up on it. In other words, you can always add a little bit more but you most definitely cannot remove too much - at least not without reshowering/rinsing/washing. So when I try something new in the beard, I err on the side of too little, see the effect, add a bit more if needed and repeat until I know I am where I need it to be.
That is an amazing approach and so transferable to so many situations, such as trimming!

Your timing with this video is crazy! I noticed this weekend I have two small pimples in my mustache area. I almost NEVER get beard pimples. Maybe have had them 2-3 other times ever since starting this journey. But I had to stop and think after watching this….oh yeah I’ve been applying castor/peppermint oil every night right at that spot! Well I guess that tells me I’m overdoing it!
Also yes, 100% when I first started using beard oil I was using probably even more than I do now with an 8 inch beard compared to a month old beard lol!! That’s learning!

I've stripped my product usage down to solely beard oil (in the morning after a shower, 3 or 4 drops) and occasionally moustache wax if I feel it's not playing ball haha. I'm done with beard balm and beard wax, they make my beard feel heavy and all clogged up. I also prefer the light scent of a nice beard oil as opposed to the sometimes overpowering scent of beard balms and butters.

Great video as always. Part of my beard journey has been working out which products to use and how much. One thing worth remembering is that hair type plays a big part as well. As an older guy with a grey beard I find I need to use a little more to get the same level of softness and manageability. My beard seems to soak up more oil than it used to.

The toughest adjustments are seasonal and when I trim my beard as I am used to using a certain amount of oil and solid product.

I live in a very dry climate, and have naturally dry skin, so I probably use more beard oil than many people. But it absorbs quickly & completely so it seems like a good amount to me.
Both of those variables play a big part!
For me, I feel I probably have been using too much oil, but getting it to cover my skin under all that hair seems like I'm not getting enough on it. I have been using Half of a dropper on about a 4 inch beard

Like most newbs I started out using way too much… had all the problems listed and then dialed back from there … still maybe a little heavy on the oil esp non condition days but my beard soaks it right up.. water intake can affect this. Cheers!

Yes I have been using 1 dropper of oil. Butter I have been using in morning for my harsh work climate and nasty factory air. Of course I use it at night as well but use less butter on my sideburn areas so I don't get close to accidentally applying on my skin and how hard I sleep on my sides.

What helped me stop using too much I started buying the cologne as well. I know beard products is mainly for the health of your beard but I also purchase for the scent as well. I would catch myself after a certain amount of time reapplying because the scent was gone (I know you can go nose blind but my wife couldn't smell it as well)

I always battle using too much. I am the epitome of more is better. I really want any scent to last and be strong so that's part of it. Also I'm close to finishing quite a few oil bottles currently so I tend to use a bit more to try to wrap them up and make room for more, haha! I'm not using way too much, I'm just making sure I get plenty, and a bit on my wrists for the scent.
Back of the neck is a surprisingly great spot for scent too!

I always forget to not put the balm/butter on the skin part of my beard.
I sometimes will have a greasy neck which I've gotten better at being more careful.
Could you talk your favorite foods? What foods to avoid/intake for beard growth an health? Also if your out for a date an your going to eat foods that may get in your beard, maybe give so hints or tricks to avoid or clean your beard while out in public if you do dirty your beard

Along with lighter beard oils during the humid times, the heavier oils just weigh my beard down and just looks greasy. I did try using beard butter last night before I went to bed and woke up with it feeling softer. Only drawback is it felt heavier but I also did my same routine of oil, style, then a dime size of beard butter. It feels better at the moment just a little heavier. Beard is over 6 inches long and going for close to your length so every day is a learning curve as it grows out

I've definitely noticed the greasy beard in the past. Especially with thicker oils. Now I'll put in about 3/4 of a dropper after the shower in the morning, then wait 5 mins and have kind of figured out through trial and error what it should feel like. If it's not right, I'll add a few more drops before blow drying.

Always wondered if I was using too much butter because I could definitely feel it in the beard. Glad you cleared it up that it will never fully absorb. I tried using significantly less butter a few times and it was just dry and barely felt like I had anything in there at all. So I think I dialed it down to a happy medium to where it still feels decent but doesn't make me feel like I'm buttering my beard up for the grill or something 😂

I will definitely stop “pushing” the butter into, or on the inner beard, or too close to my skin. Although my white, gray beard is soft, and healthy. As my beard gets longer, just started using balm to tame and style the flyaways.

Oh brother it's why i really like my coconut virgin oil, i'm using it almost everywhere, skin/beard/face/hair/cooking/diet. It makes my skin feel softer, my beard feel hydrated, it makes my hair shine, and it also helps a little with the growing.

I have had issues with applying my oil evenly and using to much in the process, Making it harder to wash out and being to heavy applied...I've tried using diffrent washes that have seemed to help alot with stripping the products from my beard.

I can probably be accused of using to little beard oil but have picked that up a bit. As far as butter I know I use to little but by design, I'm just not a big butter user.

Takes awhile to figure out right amounts. Personally I know I have to use more product using grave before shave beard oil compared to using Artius man. Can definitely tell a difference after styling if I used too much or not enough. Personally I do not like how many videos recommend only a few drops of oil because I have yet to find an oil that does the job with only 5 drops.

When I put on my leave in hydrate beard oil and beard balm a ich a little more then I try to wipe the residue that’s on my hands on my body skin and head hair and it’s still some left so less is more lol😊

Should you always rinse out beard butter? I use it most nights, but don't always shower in the AM. I am noticing slow growth and losing a few more hairs than normal, so I'll be trying to dial it in over the next couple of weeks 👍
Yes, you want to rinse out beard butter. If it had wax, you will want to wash it out with beard wash

When I started growing my beard out, went an bought all the products, was to scared to use them as I was using coconut oil only, i was convinced that was the answer, i kept breaking out with rashes all under my beard and scalp, stop using the coconut oil and used Dermarest psoriasis shampoo, worked amazing, the beard rash and itch was unbearable, the shampoo cleared it up in an hour, saved my beard amd sanity. Started using beard products liberally, didn't want to break out again. The comb away from the skin and product off the skin i leanred from taking it slow. One day went hard with the comb and broke out in that area. Definitely a learning curve an process.

I said I’d apply your tests. 4 drops (of Doctor Nick’s…) filled the bill for my 4 inch beard. This is a good test when starting a different brand of beard oil, just in case there is some variation. If I remember, I will use the test again then. But that could be at least 5 months from now, as I don’t rotate. (Standard estimate is 600 drops/ounce. 600/4=150. 150/30=5 months.)

I spoke too soon. 4 drops turned out to be too little. I probably misinterpreted a previous test, so I’ll try 6 tomorrow. The test is looking better than ever.

I’m getting hooked on the test. 6 drops okay after 30 minutes - not certain my hands had absolutely no oil. Beard still soft after 4.5 hours. I think it’s about what I’ve nearly always used. Good to keep in mind when weather changes or a different beard oil brand is used.
Weather/climate is such an important variable. Same with oil viscosity
I used to use way to much oil and butter, I couldn't get my beard to look the way I wanted, so I cut it drastically and I'm close to getting it where I like Manu does looks good.

I have searched, but I’ve been really confused on how to send you an email. I’m 73 years old and my beard is white/gray. My beard is a long goatee with a handlebar mustache. I’m trying to get my mustache to grow to the side so that I can do more with the handle bar. It seems like I’ve not had hardly any growth in the last month. I’ve been growing my beard and mustache for about nine months total. Do you have any advice on how to encourage my handlebar mustache growth? Thank you. Ed
