This was 10 years before Fischer's peak and he just methodically wore down Korchnoi here. Fischer the machine
Fischer was a 19 year old prodigy in 1962, and he had the only perfect score 11-0 in the US Championships in 1964. He was already close to peak strength, despite not playing for the world title for another 10 years.
@@russellrapport5435 if you think 19 year old Fischer was already near 1970-72 Fischer, then I'm not sure what to tell you and we can consider this discussion closed.
@@hectorg5809 I won the under 12 trophy at the 1963 US Junior just a year later. (I turned 9 during the tournament). The tournament director Donald Byrne had already lost the Game of the Century 7 years earlier. I made the Washington Post front page of the City Life (Metro) section, but I can't upload the photos. I remember Bobby Fischer. How about you?
Rybka 3 analyzed Fischerand thought he was the strongest of the past WC's (see guid and bratko)
Thanks for another great game analysis! I get inspired when I see how these chess geniuses coordinate their pieces, exploit weaknesses, dig themselves out of seemingly impossible situations, etc. You are promoting the royal game very effectively, at least as far as I can judge.
What an amazing fight... Very sharp. You're excellent, as usual. Thanks
Thanks for the video chessdawg. Cant go wrong with a Bobby game.
Wouldn't Paul Keres also be a contender for the greatest who never became champion?
The crown prince of chess. For sure. There are suggestions that he was required to throw games against other Russians.
My thoughts too.
Bronstein and Rubinstein as well.
You may also have to consider Neponiacthi as well.
Many candidates matches as well as 2 world championship matches.
Certainly another world championship match, would be his third, will remove debate as to who was the best never to win a WCC match if he ever gets another chance?
@@yotoober1caruana and karjakin were better in their respective WC and nepo lost to ding lol
Would love to see you cover the game where Viktor the Terrible a couple months later convincingly beat Fischer using the Pirc defence.
Anyone know the all time record of W/L/D between Fischer and Korchnoi?
@user-hn8lm8th8k They played 8 games. The score was +2 -2 =4.
@@user-hn8lm8th8k2-2 with some draws
@@user-hn8lm8th8k Even record (2 wins, 2 losses and 4 draws) in classical chess. I *think* they also are even in blitz as well.
Thank you for posting, and for your excellent commentary.
What a game!
Thank you for sharing!
I love how this guy comments the games !
Great game and great video
Thank you for sharing
Korchnoi played remarkably well, and still never really had a chance. Guessing Fischer's accuracy here is near perfect?
Great analysis as always. I love the very straightforward approach taken on this channel.
Simply amazing chess.
Korchnoi was arguably the strongest player to never win the Chess World Championship.
"I like to coax my opponents into attacking, to let them taste the joy of the initiative, so that they may get carried away, become careless and sacrifice material." - Korchnoi
Game #36 from My 60 Memorable Games by Bobby Fischer.
coolest review
Absolutely crushing chess by Fischer!
Yes, I would say Paul Keres rates as the best player never to become world champion
Korchnoi was unlucky having to fight Fischer, Karpov and Kasparov at their highest.
thanks, brother
not only what you said but Korchnoi said in his opinion that Fischer was better than he was. Also there were GMs who said in their opinion that in 75 BF would be the slight favorite over Karpov. Karpov wasn't in his peak years yet.
Fischer was WAY better than Korchnoi. By like 100 rating points. He could easily have been champ from 69 to 85 if he had the determination.
@@sullywinn4225agreed totally
@@sullywinn4225 couple of points: 1) That was VK's opinion before the rating system was implemented. 2) Keep in mind that came from VK himself.
@@sullywinn4225 Fischer was 130 points above everyone in 1972, including Spassky before the match. Karpov said he thought Fischer would have beaten him in 1976, but would have lost a little later when Karpov was at full strength against a slightly older Fischer.
@@russellrapport5435 That's nice. I don't particularly care what Korchnoi or Karpov had to say about it. I think Kasparov was the only one who could've taken his title.
8 : 00
What if Korchnoi deliberately lost the exchage, kept his dark squared bishop and played his queen side pawn majority for maybe a draw?
What would engine say on that?
Pre engine game
Fischer was a great, great technician.
Korchnoi lost the Candidates final to Karpov in 1974. Karpov was declared World Champion in 1975 and Korchnoi, realising that all Soviet resources were now committed to Karpov, decided to defect in 1976. I really don't think a game from 1962 had any bearing on his decision.
A great game for the ages.
Fischer is look like engine 😳 ❤
Stockfish 16 would beat Fischer 999-1 easily! Fischer vs Stein famous Bishop f5! But earlier 26:Knight f7!! Or 26:a3! Wins easily! Fischer moved 26:Knight f3?? Fischer vs Geller in 1967 17:exf7?? By Fischer! 17:Rook f6! Wins easily! Fischer vs Larsen game one in 1971 Fischer played Bishop f3??? Bishop d6! Wins easily! Fischer vs Spassky in 1966 olympiad Fischer played Queen a6??? Rook e3! Wins easily! Morphy Tal Alekhine Kasparov had More beautiful games than dry safe Fischer!!
Love chess 😀

Karchnoi. The o is pronounced a.

Is there a reason why Bobby Fischer always seems to get white, and the inherent advantage? Does it have something to do with the rules? Is it because he won his previous match?
plenty of times Fischer played black. Notably the game of the century
Maybe you’ve only seen his games with White I’m sure he had plenty with Black and won with Black as well the white piece advantage is great but a player of Fischer’s caliber is going to superb with either color
5:18 "This bishop at e1". It's a rook. Red thumb, and find yourself another YT theme than chess.
