    Perfect title and perfect exposition. Fr. Trenham illustrates the point so beautifully at the end. Churches need to step up and maintain this simple beautiful thing. It is simple if there is a communion that is united in heart, mind and faith. It is hell anywhere outside the Church.

      @@joshevans4322 To be a part of christs body is just the first step to enlightenment. Here christ starts to lead your way. But there are two more evolutions after that. Reaching the heart of christ is meant with enlightenment and you will reach a higher state of conciousness and understanding and gods gifts evolve in supernatural ways. Over this comes the state, where you are a part of the devine family. But I know only two people who reached this. Than all burden of reality are gone.

    You can't show me how dark and cruel and cold and evil people can be and in the same breath tell me there isn't a Devil. And if there's a Devil then there must be a God. And if there is a God then Jesus must be what he said he is since every other major religion acknowledges him and he is the only one who is truly selfless. The only one who sacrificed himself for our salvation. The one and only way, truth and life. The Son of the living God.

    Looking forward to this. Raised an Evangelical pastor's daughter, Orthodoxy has enriched and bore the fruit of so much truth and light in my life. Wondering if in the future, Father Josiah could clarify something I have questions about , and that many others are indeed quite interested or perhaps wondering as well : The New Age movement has claimed certain things that are actually ancient Biblical practices . These being astrology ( Solomon was an astrologer , David had an astrologer , the three wise men were advanced astrologers and found Christ this way ) .The other being : crystals ( also mentioned so much in the Bible ) . Heaven being compared to, and made of them , Biblical Aaron Wore a Golden Breastplate Fashioned With 12 Inscribed Gemstones, The Jasper stone in the context of (Rev 4) is the finest form of Diamond, one of clearest lustre and sets forth Christ's character which endured as well as His character which is so desirable ) ) . Throughout the Bible, amethyst is mentioned as a symbol of God's presence .. I could go on .
    Is it still holy and acceptable to not put these things above Christ , but to collect, admire , or even study advanced astrology in a Biblical path and way only ? Wondering what orthodox think of this . Evangelicals immediately dismiss everything as evil of course. Yes , Christ said woe to astrologers, but these were the same ppl using black arts, raising the dead in darkness etc. - these were not astrologers like the Wise men were.

      Trying to find spiritual meaning within the creation leads to dark places. I have never seen anything good result from an interest in contemporary astrology. It just leads to superstition, and the temptation to place meaning in something (anything) other than the Holy Spirit. Brother/Father Arseniye says there are spirits everywhere, and most of them are evil. People trying to be "spiritual" in ways outside of established Church prayer practice are just making themselves vulnerable to contact with spirits with ill intentions. The past few generations learned this from the new age/hippie movement. Not to mention historically, astrology was not just prominent but central to pagan ritual beliefs. Egypt and Greece were prime examples.

    • @HungryManticore
      @HungryManticore Před měsícem +3

      Astrology is simply a baseless superstition. Stars are, to put it simply, giant nuclear reactors in space, there is nothing mystical or supernatural about them.
      I'd say, if you're interested in stars and the Cosmos in general, then maybe consider studying astronomy rather than astrology? It should both satisfy your curiosity about the universe, and maybe will make you admire God even more! At least that's how I react whenever I see and study the beauty of God's creation - I always think that our Lord is an incredible artist 😉
      As for crystals - again, nothing wrong with studying them from the scientific point of view, i.e. learning about their structure, how they're formed, and what their chemical composition is. But attributing anything supernatural to them, is again, baseless.
      To me, all these beliefs about astrology and crystals sound an awful lot like demonic influence, trying to distract people from Christ.
      God bless you my friend.

      @@NFS0038Thank you 🐣 This isn't contemporary astrology I'm speaking of , but rather an ancient Solomon / David ( as an example ) type of Biblical astrology . It is pretty advanced & actually correlates to the heavenly hosts ( angels ) , the seasons , the times , etc.

      What he means is the ideas were successful in a transitory society, and more important, they came from men who inherited a moral Christian society. They took certain Christian values and behaviors for granted. And then they proceeded to institute the changes that would allow those very same values to be undermined and destroyed. So it took a while until the logical conclusions of the ideas were to bear their rotten fruit. Liberalism has two fundamental values: liberty and equality. Follow either of those two ideas to their logical conclusions and you arrive at a place alien to God. This is where we are now.

    And yet so many Orthodox I know argue with me like I am the one unlearned in science. I tell them contemporary genres of science are abandoning relativity and evolution : LITERALLY. They get militant and argue for the anti-theist propaganda without even considering it. Our own clergy and hierarchs do this as well. They still want to appease their Bolshevik intelligentsia abusers, give them the front row as St James puts it so they can appear to everyone as Royal Society Learned. This interview helps me feel slightly vindicated for some of the condescension I’ve put up with from ortho bros and sisters especially when defending the consensus of patristics on literal 6-Day Creation, 24-hour evening and morning cycles. Christians need to do their science homework. The enlightenment was part of the Prot Reformation. It was only to counter the Church. Blessed Pentecost. May you hear His voice and obey. May we all!
