When STYX came out there was such an abundance of great music going on, that I didn't fully realize how awesome they were. Fast forward to years later when good music dried up, I re-discovered this song and went nuts!
Never having heard this band before I jumped out of my skin when the music kick started lol. I laughed at myself and settled down to listen, whoever played the guitar solo is brilliant, and the singer has one heck of a voice, what an amazing record. AD 1958 is the outro to Half Penny Two Penny. If you just listen to Half Penny Two Penny, the song just cuts out in the middle of the music at the end.

Yeah this song is catchy, it was used in the ending part on one of the episodes of that tv series Supernatural 👍
Styx had two lead singers: This is Tommy Shaw. One of Styx's earlier hits with Dennis DeYoung singing lead vocals is "Come Sail Away." There's a fan-made lyrics video with a blue underwater background with light shining through the water. Another of Dennis's hits is "Lady" and another of Tommy's hits is "Too Much Time on My Hands."

Fun fact: This song was included in the Pittsburgh Steelers 75th anniversary highlight video in 2008 and since has been played when the Steelers are playing at home and the defense needs a big stop and want the crowd to go nuts.

I can't understand why" Boat" isn't their BIGGEST hit! It is for me. I'm a guitarist, but I taught myself to play the mandolin because of that song. It really does "take you back",doesn't it?

This song was first released on Styx album "Pieves of Eight", in 1978. I was 15 years old at the time. Its really nice for an old man to see a younger generation enjoying this kind of song as much as my generation did when it first came out. Thanks.

Styx was my first live concert in September 1983 in Detroit. “That aged me, didn’t it”. They are very unique in that 3 members sing lead on different songs. So much talent across the board and a huge playlist of hits. Enjoy the ride.

I've seen Styx multiple times, from a huge arena to the House of Blues. They're so powerful. We stayed at the same Vegas hotel Mandalay Bay. They were loading out as we waited for a ride. They invited us in their buses and spent 20 minutes with us..really nice group of guys. Yes, JY is HUGE! especially next to Tommy Shaw!

Prelude12/Suite Madam Blue is THE quintessential Styx tune IMHO!! Not their most commercial of course but the song that best represents them in my eyes. This was my fave group growing up. I saw them live 11 times in a span of 8 years!

SNOWBLIND - "Snowblind" is a song by Styx that appears on the Paradise Theatre album released in 1981. The song is about the helplessness of cocaine addiction, alternating between slow, brooding verses (sung by James Young) and a faster, harder-edged chorus (sung by Tommy Shaw), representing the addict's cycle of highs and lows.

Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man), Crystal Ball, Lorelei, Suite Madame Blue. There are so, so many great songs . . . you can't go wrong. One of their guitar players is Tommy Shaw, he is the man!!!! When you roll thru the Styx rabbit hole, you'll need to check out the super group Damn Yankees, which was Tommy Shaw, Jack Blades, Ted Nugent, and Michael Cartellone.
Grand Illusion is my all time favorite Styx song. Come Sail Away, Crystal Ball, and Blue Collar Man to name a few! Whatever song by them you do next you won't be disappointed!

Styx could always bring it and hand you your ass on your way out the door. Even after Larry Gowan joined them they never lost a step. Highly recommended. A special treat for all is to catch their video with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra (think I got the name correct). It is outstanding. So outstanding it's hard to tell who was having the most fun Styx, the youth musicians or their parents in the crowd who were old Styx fans. A wicked night. Find it!

They had a wide variety of musical styles due to having a number of songwriters in the band. Did some great songs with different sections like "Suite Madame Blue". Vocal harmonies are always good in their music.
My favorite STYX song. Listen to Suite Madam Blue, it's my second fave song, another tender start to a song.
This band is da Bomb from the old school. Lead singer is Tommy Shaw. He was also in the group Damn Yankees and was solo artist. He's amazing. I saw them in concert last year for the first time. I could stop looking at Tommy. He very good older looking man. He's so cool. Check out his video of he singing to his little dog.
