Nice video.l went to Macaulay hut in a group,2015,driving a p Pajero Exceed, road tyres,but l would 't take my jb74 jimny up there.Good for heavy trucks.Great memories,,thanks.
Yeah, an early video and still learning. I definitely need to improve my sound. Have also learned to talk more, to break it up and make more interesting.
Visited Lilybank Lodge at Lilybank Station many years ago. Back when that big lodge was setup as a luxury hotel (yes funded by the Suhatos of Indonesia) - Very posh!! The Lodge Manager drove across the Macauley River just like you showed in the video, to pick us up. The lodge has 8 luxury suites, and a very large kitchen, plus servant quarters etc. Stayed two nights (free thankfully - part of my fee for doing some work there).
Love the video, was intrigued that none of the participants aired down their tyres to make the ride smoother and less chance of puncture. Also the comments about deep river crossings, its only deep when four inches from the top of the windscreen, also the speed of approach to the water, slow down as damage is done when hitting the water hard. Otherwise great content.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. We had already aired down before accessing the track, I just hadn't filmed that part. Im learning that everyone likes to see all aspects, so have started videoing those parts too. Thanks for the tips, though. We also had a couple of young fellas who we met at the river and who tagged along. They may not have been as experienced or perhaps just young boys more focused on the fun aspect 😆
@@adventureswithjill being a keen South island 4wder based in Marlborough I was intrigued by the lack of flexing of the sidewalls of your tyres, glad to hear you aired down, we run as low as 12psi. Doing our river runs, and about 18 psi on rock work, glad you are having fun let us know when you are down on the mainland again might catch up and show you some of our hidden places
BOTSI is the name we gave our adventure. It stands for Bottom of the South Island. We have also done TOTSI, Top of the South Island, and COTNI, Centre of the North Island. There is only one video compilation of TOTSI, and nothing for COTNI, as I was more focused on photo's back then.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm learning and improving on each adventure. Didn't really start doing these for public viewing, but they seem to have gained interest.
Buenísimo
About 3 and half hours from Tekapo to Macaulay hut. Some scratches from matagauri bushes.Good when rivers are that level. Its a group trip for safety.

Gosh, what an experience that would've been. It certainly looks a beautiful place.
Excellent video. How long did it take you to get there and back?
Thankyou. We were staying in Tekapo and it was an all day trip. Approx 9am till 4pm all up.
