  • This is not my normal Lake District fly fishing video.
My visit to go fly fishing in Sweden resulted from seeing the wonderful CZcams videos produced by Krister Wulff in his “Carpe Diem” fly fishing channel. Thank you Krister, you are truly an inspiration.
Krister is a master of the cinematic and musical art and if you haven’t seen his “Trout Heaven” and “Lapland Dreams” videos you have missed out. Please check them out now, they are far better than anything I can produce, and I watch them time after time.

This visit to the Säveån came about by Accident. I had planned to fly fish all week on the Ätran, near a village called Hillared, as this is where almost all shots in Krister’s “Trout Heaven” videos came from. One of the days I wanted was a public holiday and there were no tickets left for the Ätran (Only 5 anglers a day on the Ätran!!) so the people managing the river recommended the Säveån. I’m so pleased they did.
The river is easy to access and permits can be bought from IFiske - www.ifiske.se/fiskekort-savea...
The Säveån web site ( www.savean.se/ ) has lots of maps and details on it and there are also free printed maps for anglers left in notice boards at access points along the rive (Like the one in the opening shots of my video).
The Säveån has Perch and Brown trout and only 10 fly fishermen a day are allowed on the river, so you are guaranteed a peaceful time.
Getting to Sweden was easy with a Ryanair flight direct to Gothenburg from Manchester.
The local anglers were very friendly and helpful. For shops I’d recommend:
    - Fly Fishign Market - www.flyfishingmarket.se/?utm_...
    - Wolmars Fish Hunt Fritid (Much much better than it sounds and well worth a visit just to see the gear and flies) wollmars.com/
Staff in both are friendly and helpful and full of local advice. Also, they all speak English superbly. (I’m ashamed that my Duolingo Swedish was rubbish). The prices are also not as high in Sweden as people suggest.
    Equipment Used :
    - Guideline Elevation 9’ 4# Fly rod
    - Vision Hero 4/6# Reel
    - Rio 4# river fly line
    - Landing Net -and old Daiwa net found in a lake some years ago
    Video:
    - shot on GoPro Hero 7 Black and Iphone 14 (Wet!)
    - Editing in Adobe Premier Pro
If you are thinking of going to Sweden and have any questions, please add them in comments and I will respond
