  • What's up guys,
My goal with most of these drills (filmed last summer), was to work on Alejandro’s movements prior to the shots. Over that summer, I noticed that he had been jumping into his set position when performing recovery movements back to his line, as well as when coming forward into his prep set.
So I really wanted to try and isolate those movements and felt that using “announced” services at the end points of his footwork would allow us to keep a controlled setting while potentially exposing that jump into his set.
These drills were all in the activation progressions that would eventually lead into bigger recovery movements and live / unannounced services.
2 things I want you guys to pay attention to:
    1) Balance
    2) Stability
They allow Alejandro to perform the proper mechanics by keeping him in the best positions possible in the moments leading up to the save! Also notice how discipline/stubborn he is about keeping his shoulders from shooting up in reaction to the shots he faces; which can become increasingly difficult as he gets more and more fatigued.
With that being said, I hope you guys enjoy the session!
    --- Omar Zeenni

Small critic point: He often jumps and dives backwards... focus on diving and jumping into the ball to get a better angle. Well done Coach, keep it up! Greetings from Germany

Really liked this video. good to see how your progress the exercises and what the focus is on in all of the drills. A lot of internet training sessions are of GK's making camera saves to shocking service, but the quality and intensity that your GK's work at plus the quality of service you provide as a coach really speaks volumes. Thanks for the great content

Looking at that very last exercise you do, it looks like it's a game situation where the GK has to make those recovery movements. What are your thoughts on the GK's final position before the shot is taken? I thought he didn't recover to their goal line enough, with Alejandro only moving back a step or two. Would have liked to see him try recovering closer to his goal line to give himself more reaction time on the shots.

I agree, I wasn’t sure if the GK likes to set high on those type of shots. But I think maybe if he sets a little deeper, it can give him better chance of saving the shot .

Do you tell them where you will shoot when you first started working in the goals and what effect does this have?

Appreciate the video. I'm 5'7 and having lower set position makes me able to save high shots as well as deal with low shots. Is this ok? I'm 16 btw
