      What the left is doing today isn't even liberal or progressive: They're completely against liberty now, they blame free speech and the open internet for hate and threats to children and all sorts of ideas with different root causes... only freedom they care about if anything is freedom to make money, otherwise for whatever minority they selectively accept. The right are no saints either as they've made clear their intentions to abuse the rights of migrants, not sure if they're anti-LGBT and other conservative stupidities we really don't want here. But with some things at least they're a lot better, we don't want to be America 2.0 going to Chinese style digital authoritarianism in the name of safety.

The green party here is very radical and the "far right" is really not that right at all. We are, thanks to the green party now less "clean" than ever before. We pay up to 4 times more than before just a few years for energy. We shut down our very clean atomic plants and we buy it from France instead for a high price as well as fracking gas from US. Germany has lost itself entirely, so very normal liberal people are starting to vote AFD because they seem to be the only voice of reason. The warning from Brexit was that voters are increasingly sceptical of policies being led (dictated) by unelected bodies and bureaucrats who feel they know best and aren’t answerable to the electorate. The response in the U.K. was to coerce the government into holding a referendum. Th EU ignored the disaffection in Britain than lay behind Brexit and carried on as before with the rest of the EU. The very disaffection a majority of Brits had with the EU (there were disaffected Brits who voted Remain as they thought sticking with ‘the devil you know’ was the better policy) has since festered in mainland Europe. As voters there don’t have the option of a referendum they have voted for the parties most critical of many EU policies, and those parties happen to be “far right”

    There are no rentals available yet the government keeps immigration going, it's really sad there are families becoming homeless here because of the shortages but also because with the rise in costs they can't afford their high mortgages so they default and then can't find a rental losing everything they have. Too bad the world is so polarized and the politicians won't do common sense reforms based on data and trends. Surely organized, documented immigration based on labor need is possible. Problem is when you document workers- their employers have to follow safety and pay standards. Companies that exploit cheap undocumented immigrant labor don't want that. Maybe a specific non-citizen minimum wage would be a compromise

    I haven't seen much analysis about polling people on who changed from which party to which. I suspect a lot of the loss in Greens went to the center-left, while people on the center-left moved to the center-right, and people in the center-right moved to the right. That seems like it would explain a lot of the shift, since people aren't really going to do a Horseshoe and flip instantly from far left to far right.
    Although you could say that about various phenomena like Five Star or the new German anti-war, mildly anti-immigration left party that Greenwald interviewed, which to me is basically right-wing if they're pro-existing workers and don't want to N Russia for being authoritarian while white and not controlled by the US like everyone else in Europe.

    NATO did not provoke Russia, there may have been threats from Putin and his cronies when Ukraine membership was mooted many years ago, in my view Russia made a big thing of it simply because they were always planing to disregard the Budapest agreement and move to bring Ukraine under their thumb, with force if necessary, but article 5 protection would have made the cost to high, this is why Putin was totally against membership.

    • @christophergraves6725
      @christophergraves6725 Před 6 dny +1

      @@michaelmurvihill8813 I don't doubt that the Left labels anything that resists their leveling as "racist." But 'racist' by definition is viewing one race as being morally superior to another or all others. That is what the term means and nothing else. So, conserving the culture of a particular people is not racist since conservatives such as Edmund Burke respected the distinctive character of all races, ethnicities, tribes, and civilizations without ever claiming one had claim of moral superiority to subjugate or exterminate another. Burke argued rather that the different customs and traditions in each culture allowed the people of that particular culture to bond uniquely with their others who shared their race, ethnicity, language, religion and traditions that suited their particular time and setting.
      Leftists seek to break down these differences and barriers in order to bring the world together so that people's loyalties to their own people evaporates in the hope that people can live together in their "Species-
      Being" as Marx put it. Some today put this same sentiment as "There are no distinct races, just the human race." That is communism and that is what conservatives oppose since it breaks down these particular and personal ties to some and not others that make human relationships special, intense, and devoted. Love is limited to a few. Aristotle made this point in his criticism of all versions of communism, viz. that spreading human affection too broadly diminishes its intensity and devotion. This is what communists deny.
