Building a Wooden Boat: Sharpie Sailing Skiff Project 2021

- I built this skiff based loosely on several designs in Raul Parker's Sharpie Book. Chesapeake Oyster Skiff, Mississippi River yawl, and Crab skiff. The sail plan is subject to change, but for now it gets the job done. This boat was built with practicality in mind. It's very easy to rig, row, and sail single handed. An excellent trailer boat, for a wooden boat. Traditional planking with a plywood bottom. I built her mainly for dinghy camping and cruising. Not for speed. I am really looking forward to starting my boat builds next year when I am settled in at the new place I am moving to.
Beautiful boat, nice build!
Great video! You were good at telling the story too. My only sailing experience is in a 15.5' Westport sharpie that a friend of mines has. Sharpies are beautiful boats.
Lovely old time build! Thanks for sharing
Very different approach to boat building than most other videos out there, inspiring!
Gorgeous boat.
Great job!!
Great job! Beautiful boat!
Enjoyed the video. thank you for sharing. Happy sailing!
I really enjoyed watching this video. You've done a fantastic job, both on the boat build and the telling of the story. Thanks for sharing.
You really did a nice job with this boat. I love the lines sharpie layout.
You are a patient man.
I really enjoyed this, and your presentation, brilliant. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful boat and sailing! 👍
Wau man, absolutely beautiful boat, love the color, love the design, love the way it looks with the rowing paddles. Seriously, awesome boat made with a lot of love.
Your advice to novice boat builders is excellent.
I'm about to finish building a box-boat of my own design. I had to build it inside the house trailer I live in.
The boat's 10 ft length stretches nearly from wall to wall.
I have made numerous mistakes while building it, and can hardly believe I'm at the fitting out stage.
You have built a nice, elegant boat.
Excelente, parabéns.
Nice!
Very nice job, enjoyed your video. Thanks Dan from Michigan & texas
What a fine job ! Beautiful boat. Single balanced lug rig would be a great choice , I think. 👍
Nice.
Beautiful job! You have rekindled my interest in the Ohio sharpie. Bought the plans, but wasn’t sure about it. They are gorgeous.
Wow. I found your most recent videos, and I love your style of sailing. I have an interest in carpentry from deck building and framing work, but would LOVE to have a simple two person par and sail boat that was made by my own hands. This made it feel more feasible than I pictured. Very happy to have found your channel. Keep going!
Beautiful lines. I want to build one now, so thanks for that hahhaa
Using your own hands and creativity is medicine for people ❤
Beautiful boat! Would love to know the basic dimensions, we know length as stated 15 ft, how about max beam across gunnels, across bottom and width of transom. Again, very awesome build.
Bravo !!!! great video, well done. And the boat as well :) You should have 64K subscribers at least !! Keep building and sailing & God bless, Z.
we must be doppelgangers or something i took all the hardware ,mast, keel from my mariner and cut up the rest took it to the dump because i couldn't put the mast up alone and my kids moved away an a thousand bucks a yr is to much for me to keep it at a dock so i built almost exactly the same boat you did except it's 12 ft long and resin coated ply lol small world hey
12:57 Would it not be better if the mainsheet traveler lay forward of the mizzen mast?
Great work!!
Which paint and adhessive have you used?
What's cost looking like for this?
Is the outside of the hull fiberglassed over?
The SHARPIE BOOK! Where do I find this book???
If that boat is 15 feet, what is the maximum beam at the gunnel?
Do you have the build plans for this? I know you loose built of 3 designs, wondering if you have the plans for purchase.
What are your thoughts on the boomless standing lug?
I liked it for convenience sake, but the boom provides a huge performance boost. Especially up wind.
You sound so different in this older video. Is it you or someone else? I thought I was on the wrong channel; the "other guy" has a super laid back, soft and sleepy manner of speech. Just an observation.
Hood job
