- Relaxing Slow TV from Iceland. Hjálparfoss is where two rivers join, Rauðá (Red river) and Fossá (Falls river). The place is very serene and together the two rivers join into a beautiful waterfall and pool.
A nearby sign reads: "Fossá flows through Þjórsárdal. It unites with Rauðá as it slides out of Gjáinn and curls between pseudocraters in the valley base. Fossá falls over the lava cliffs of Þjórsárdalshraun that flowed from Tungár area just over 3000 years ago and is part of the Búrfellshraun lava that flowed through Gjáinn. The basalt column formation around the waterfall formed from the cooling lava. The landmarks name Hjálp is located below Hjálparfoss beneath Skeljafell, but the name refers to where the people of Eystrihreppur rested their livestock. The forests in Þjórsárdalur were mostly destroyed and the valley looked like a pumice wasteland. Over the last few decades the valley's vegetation has been reclaimed by Skógræktin, Landgræðslan, Landsvirkjun and farmers."
