I worked on the production and let me tell you, Alan is a class act and a physical specimen. The small screen doesn't do justice to how freaking ripped he is.
But, the Jack Reacher character is NOT ripped, he’s just a BIG guy, there is a massive difference, never worked out, ever
Tell that to Alan's face, he'll rip yours off.

I can only imagine. After seeing the Clark Bar scene I have to think that people accidentally bump their heads on his pecs.
I love how he runs away for a bit sometimes while fighting. He doesn't just win because the show is named after him. He wins because he fights smart.

The problem is that in Hollywood we are so used to dull actors like the Rock who want to be the star of every show to the point their contract stipulates they cannot lose a fight nor look like a wuss.

Having read over twelve books in this series, Richardson "nails" the character to perfection. "elbows like axes".

It's not very often that a film/show adaptation lives up to the book, but this first season was great! Alan Ritchson plays the role so well!
funny thing is ... i really like Tom Cruise's version of Reacher and refused to watch the series ... then i was bored one day and wanted to get interested in a series ... and i watched 1 episode and i was hooked lol Alan's version of Reacher is spot on ...
I will agree that this series with Ritchson has captured the flavor of Child's Reacher in a way that Cruise completely missed. While I enjoyed this series it missed the books plot arch by a wide margin. I haven't read all of the Reacher novels, so I don't know how badly the Cruise films have mangled those plots... yet.
And by lives up too the book you mean actual Kings and Queens in movies must be played by actual real life kings and queens and mass murderers must be played by actual mass murders. Sounds insane doesn’t it?
When they make a movie about Queen Elizabeth will you be okay if they dig her up, re-animate her and give a crash course in acting so she can play herself?
I loved this show and eagerly await Season 2. I will say that while Cruise nailed the attitude of the character, Ritchson just IS the character.
The one thing Cruise's performance has going for it is that you can accept muscleheads picking a fight with a guy that looks like him. Anyone picking a fight with Ritchson must already be concussed before he hits them.
It's the big guy conundrum.... Big guys disproportionately get messed with cause its a no lose situation status wise. If you beat up a big dude, you're obviously tough. If you get your ass kicked its anywhere between "what did you expect" or "that big guy is a bully". Either way your 'toughness' isn't deminished.
Can't comment on Cruise as I refuse to watch him. I can get away with him, now and then, but I'm not entertaining the idea that he's Reacher, for anybody.
Tiny Tom as the 6"5' - 6"6' Reacher, star pull, but really?😮.
@S.R The original character in the book is built like this Reacher. Cruise has attitude but doesn’t fit the build AND is too cocky.
As someone who has read all the novels, Alan absolutely does justice to Reacher's character, both physically and through his acting. Love the show.

As a fellow Jack Reacher fan I thought Alan nailed the role as Jack Reacher
Ditto. I read the first dozen wonderful Lee Child books and am now loving the series. Thanks to Amazon Prime, I can watch it. I shut off all 500 worthless channels of cable TV and broadcast radio in 2007 and have never looked back and never regretted it. Netflix, Prime, and YT give me everything I want without a single commercial with about an $80 per month savings.
You can see that Alan Ritchinson is 1000% committed to this role. The production’s interpretation of the Killing Floor was spot on

Though no one calls him this to his face, because Reacher is a runaway freight train when he hits you, his nickname, in certain circles, is Sherlock Homeless. Just never say it to to his face. Reacher is a runaway freight train that hits really hard. Not awesome to be on the receiving end of that much power hutling into you full force. You probably won't get back up.

What sticks out the most to me is the supporting cast. Finley and Roscoe were perfect.

The Enemy
Where he was still in the Army and ended it with him being discharged and going off into the sunset to begin the next adventure.
I like that he doesn't often throw straight punches with a closed fist in the fights, more slaps and elbow hits which makes sense as a normal punch on its own has a decent chance of breaking at least one of the bones in your hand.
Ya I really want a season 2. This show was no less than awesome
All but the last fight where everyone had such solid plot armor and the 100 bad guys get wiped cliche.

Richardson is so perfectly cast. He’s cool, charming, and huge. In the books, Reacher’s enormous size is his defining feature, and practically a character in and of itself. It makes him kind of an unstoppable force. Perfectly Reacher.
I've watched Season one, twice and wholeheartedly embrace "idontgiveafork," sentiments.
Man, I loved him in this role. That was a truly awesome season

I hope you respond to this because that's my second favorite one, I died laughing at that but I want to know what you thought of the "I was embarrassed ordering that" when he got the vegetarian food for his buddy. I know it's not a killer line but the delivery for some reason cracked me up so hard.

You just need him to be constantly adjusting the seat and steering when he gets into someone else's car, to really appreciate the tall guy experience. Great show, love it.
If you're wondering about the books, season was on point with Killing Floor. Small plot changes which was fine. The character however. Alan hits the nail on the head. Love it. I recommend the books. Some stories are better than others. One of my favorites is Badluck and Trouble which season 2 is based on. In HIGHLY recommended it. Can't wait for season 2.

@Vexor Neagley wasn't in Killing floor, the book that is. There are things they did in season one that were from bad luck and trouble. This book should translate well on screen. Season 3 is like to see 61 hours. Good story.

When I read the books this literally what I imagined Reacher looks like. Cruise was great and all but Alan has the build, tone, menace and mannerisms of the character that Lee Child created. This is casting perfection. Chef’s kiss😅😊

I have a friend who is a friend of Alan Ritchson. He told me that Alan was a little unsure about being right for the Jack Reacher character. I told my friend to tell Alan that he was magnificent and I was looking forward to more. Hope he got the message.

The torture Alan Ritchson put himself through making this show was horrible to hear about. I’m very impressed that he turned in such a great performance (as did the whole cast) while suffering the way he did. Can’t wait for Season 2.

@@fernando3061 I read articles and interviews that the tight shooting schedule and all the fight scenes led to him being injured and exhausted, but he just played through the pain.

My only problem with who they had play Reacher was in the movies He was a 5'8" tall unassuming man. That is what made Jack Reacher such a great character. Don't get me wrong the actor in the show did a good job.

Oh, and cruise couldnt act his way out of a 3rd grade play. The HUGE majority of his life he has played THE SAME CHARACTER IN EVERY MOVIE. When he was younger he was decent but as he grew his talents waned and now he is just a one trick pony.

Reacher and the terminal list were easily my favorite series in the last few years. cant wait for the 2nd season

I’m making my way through the Reacher books at the moment and this bloke fits the role very well; he captures Reacher’s personality perfectly.
i was late to the game on this series, but fell in love with it very quickly and watched it three times over.

As much as I *LOVED* Daredevil when it hit NF, this is now my favorite action franchise. It has been damn near impossible to exercise ANY amount of patience waiting for S2.

I love that they shows he's just a man. A very big very tough man, but not invincible. Even he has to be smart to stay alive. What a great adaptation, I'm just about finished with Killing Floor right now and it's very very good. Can't wait to see how much the ending differs.

If you like shows with dirty fights, checkout Banshee. Antony Starr (Homelander from "The Boys") fights dirtier than a puddle of mud.

I love reacher because he does things that actually make sense! He doesn't make cliche mistakes. Absolutely brilliant. While watching you say "oh he is going to get out of it like this, right" and he does something totally different and clever

Much better than I expected, and Alan did a wonderful job. The ending was a little messy, and the writing could be a bit tighter, but overall quite a fun watch. Hoping we get a season 2 :)

I HIGHLY recommend reading a few of the books. The way the writer describes fight scenes is unlike anything I've read.
Alan did a great job in this series. He was almost as good with his elbows as Gordie Howe! I wanna see him reprise the role in a new adventure with a better looking side chick.
