Mere wale mey both option hai. Spark electricity se hota hai aur burner gas se chalta hai.

Is there risk of accidental fall of a glass lid while cooking
There is no risk...if you keep the cooking range little (may be 3-4 inch) far from the wall (give little gap between the wall and cooking range)....so...the glass lid will be in slanting position to the wall...
