  • In today's video we'll talk about that one time I took a trip and got the upgrade to United Premium Plus. It isn't quite first class but it's the next best thing. We'll talk about whether or not it's worth it, what you get, and if I'd do it again.

We took a different airline this time but if you want to see how to get free flights that is here: • Free Southwest Airline...
In today’s video we will be talking about getting upgraded seats while taking a United flight and what it’s like to fly United Premium Plus. Sorry, I couldn’t splurge for the First Class. If anyone watching wants to pay for me to test it out I’ll gladly accept! I also know this isn’t the most exciting video but I watched one similar and found it helpful so people helping people. It’s a beautiful thing
On our trip to Ireland and Scotland we tried all the seat options, within reason of course. I typically use travel rewards or credit card hack my way to a variety of trips whether abroad or domestic. Attached above is a video I have that goes over how I’ve been flying free on Southwest for the past two years. But these flights were ones that were paid for so I figured an upgrade was okay.
As a starting point I am a modest 6’4” while my wife is 5’ 6”.
With the standard seat, you all know what that is like and for myself it can be a little tight and for a more normal sized people it's not bad, but still not great. For the luxury of choosing to sit in the aisle that cost $29 per person.
Next up is the exit row. The extra row provides extra space and sometimes it is the ultimate hack because you have an infinite amount of legroom. When it comes to food while seated in the “economy” area was your typical microwavable food with plastic silverware. Nothing to brag about but it was edible. We took this from Dublin back to the US for the low cost of $152.
Next up is the Economy Plus seats which has grandiose claims of up to to 6 inches (15 cm) of extra legroom and are located near the front of the United Economy cabin. They boast that it can help you get you on your way when you reach your destination. Because, you know, getting off 3 rows earlier makes a big difference. Economy Plus seating is available on all United flights and most United Express® flights. In order to be able to sit in this area you do need to typically bundle and then pay the fee. So essentially you’ll need to pay to have opportunity to pay $169 to seat here. We had no meals but we did get snacks and drinks.
The final seat we have in the prestigious United Premium Plus it’s not First Class but it is right there in the middle! I think the upgrade in total is about $550 per person. Luckily I had United points from a credit card hack I did year ago. The real reason I did this was because we were doing a red eye the landed at 9:00 and would have to have all day being out and about and was hoping to sleep.
I hope you found this video helpful and if you want to see where I go on all these trips make sure to subscribe and I’ll see you guys next time!

Very helpful thanks! Our seats have just been ticketed through group tour. I paid to upgrade to economy plus but now will use points to be hopefully upgraded to premium economy.

Welcome back. I typically fly Cathay Pacific when I go to Asia and have always flown Premium Economy. I agree that it's a much more comfortable option. You make some interesting points about exit row etc. however. Will keep those points in mind the next time I book a flight.

I flew Austrian Airlines & Lufthansa in their respective premium economy classes just before covid & it was an improvement over sardine class. Despite being owned by Lufthansa, Austrian had the better premium experience. I'll be flying to Europe this spring and I'm looking forward to trying out United's premium plus between Denver & Frankfurt.

Hi! Thanks for this video. I was just wondering if the very last row seats window side of Premium plus do recline or not? Because that’s what my husband and I choose and we are traveling with a 1year old baby. Thoughts?

I’m curious about the headphones they provided. We’re they good quality, could you hear the entertainment well and were they noise canceling or was the nose reduction amount good?

For sure good quality. Better than those cheap earbuds they typically give but they weren’t not noise canceling.

Generally they don’t recline but that can depend on the airline and the plane, also whether there is one row or two. That is a great point as something I didn’t mention because I usually don’t recline so thanks for adding that!

No nice way to say it: I’m fat. I fly with my wife, and lift up the arm rest just to get a little extra space. Premium plus doesn’t seem to have that option. Am I going to be wedged in to that seat? See a really nice price in mikes. Enjoyed the video.

    • @JakeMillerDoesTravel

Is that extra over the regular? I would for sure do it at that price. Especially if you are able to sleep on planes. I think exit row has better leg room but premium plus was better seats, less crowded, better food, and was great. I just can’t sleep on planes and need lots of legroom being 6’4”

Is premium plus worth an extra $300 ?

    • @JakeMillerDoesTravel
      @JakeMillerDoesTravel  Před 2 lety +1

Depends on what your options were. Over Economy? Yes, absolutely. Better seats, better food, better experience. Especially since I’m 6’4”. Comparing against an extra row, premium has more space in the seats, better food, more stuff like that gift bag but slightly less leg room for someone my size and on long flights that’s what I need. But premium plus was an awesome experience and a huge upgrade over economy.
