Josh, I believe you are fair. I'm a Oregon fan but if you said something I didn't like, I would look at it as your opinion and you have that right.
I appreciate there being a national(?) sports media talking head who preaches patience and understands that program building takes time.
There you are! I've been in the forest looking all over for you!
I enjoyed the subtle use of the old "Throw it in reverse, Larry." Instead of the iconic, "Throw it in reverse, Terry." 😂
The dryer analogy 😂
Very interested for the Ryan Day interview. Also, really hope Josh makes it to South Bend to interview Marcus Freeman. He is building something special at ND and I'd love the rest of the CFB community to get a view of it thru Josh's great interview style.

Love the show as always Josh
You gonna catch hell for that USC take JP.
A LOT of us appreciate you taking that much time to tell your story about it. You nailed it! See you Tuesday!
"Why stay in Nashville when you can get out on the road?" Love it!🚗
There’s a portion of every fan base that thinks JP is against them. He’s just honest with his opinion, and I’ve learned he’s as right as you can be when speaking of things that haven’t happened yet.

Am a big fan Josh..Wish that I could attend your live show in Columbus OH. Would you ever consider allowing a live audience to spectate?
I have a new favorite team: Oklahoma, simply for the classy move of honoring Toby Keith with a turf decal yesterday.
He should have been an Oklahoma state cowboy
I'm Vol thru and thru but damn that was class. I'll be secretly routing for the Sooners except for that one Saturday of course...
USC didnt lack talent the last few years. According to Rivals usc had 3 top 100 defensive kids in 21. A top 25 end, a top 50 lb and a corner. In 22 the had two top 25 secondary players. 23 they had two top 50 linebackers.

Mizzou fan here. I am here to tell you that there have been times when you and I disagreed. Still, I didn't let that bother me. I believe that you are the best in the business at what you do. ✨️ Whoo, look at that glitter! Keep up the good work! Vaughn

Please review the south carolina spring game when you get a chance
Oh lawd put it in reverse Larry 😂
USC's defence was so bad that even with Caleb they barely sqeezed by a bad CAL team 50-49. it was a miracle they won 8 games last year with the defence. Caleb had to lead them to a minimum of 35 points a game or it was a loss!!!
Damn was really hoping Tallahassee
Ol’ Josh doing what he does best: riding both sides of every fence and being noncommittal about EVERYTHING. Fear of commitment? Except when he was hardcore about Texas Tech is going to shock the football world in 2023! Keep being you, Josh. I disagree with you 75% of the time, but you entertain me.
Imagine going one hour down the road 😅
As an FSU fan, I will admit that when the flip flopping comments happened I was super upset. Mainly because I loved this show so much, and felt like Josh’s takes were awesome. But then the constant jumping back and forth was a turn off for sure. But everyone is allowed to change their opinions. Still a good show, just didn’t appreciate that. Go Noles
In regards to USC I don’t believe it’s as bad as JP makes it out to be. USC has had defensive talent on all 3 levels the last two seasons with players that had all conference or all America honors at some point in their college careers. So lack of talent was not the issue in the last two years, the scheme and coaching was. In regards to this upcoming season USC again has talent on all 3 levels, but they still need more depth in the interior defensive line. They also need to defend the middle of the field better, which again falls on scheme and coaching. If they can do those things they’ll be fine come season time. USC doesn’t need a great defense to get to 10 wins, they just need a defense that can get key stops and they’ll win double digit games.
Yeah you definitely didn’t watch USC spring game. Multiple starters missing and the secondary looked good. It’s also a scrimmage
Like you said it’s a scrimmage with extremely vanilla stuff where the defense knows exactly what the offense is going to run. The defense isn’t going for automatically get good over night with no semblance of depth
Hunstville, AL Rocket City USA baby. Yessirrr!
Regarding heat maps, blue burns hotter than red. I'd say yellow or orange represent the teams weaknesses.
This is true. But it isn't the way that heat maps as a data visualization tool operate.
Josh, enjoy your honesty, we can agree to disagree about FSU, the rings by the way were ACC Championship ring. I went to the OB and expected the result that was provided but I enjoyed the year, I believe the FSU D would have been a unit to be dealt with and CMN would have had a good game plan. Take care and now on to '24, the FSU D will be better than last year and so will the running game....Heading to Dublin to welcome in the year.,..
I don’t know what to think about Davis Warren. He had a rough 2023 Spring Game and a brutal 2023 season in garbage time.
Right? But he looked VERY good in 22 spring Game. It was good to see him back on track.
Go Dawgs! Sic Em!
When talking about Michigan's 3 year run, you said "the right buttons were being pushed".. gee I wonder what the difference was..
Lol they proved the allegations as b.s. when they beat MSU, Purdue, Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State, Iowa, Alabama, and Washington without Connor Stallions😂
P.s. OSU admitted they changed their signs in 2021 and 2022 - cry harder
@@The__Kipster it's a shame because they were an extremely talented team, Michigan fans can talk for now, but it's still under investigation, so we'll see..

40:00 "This USC defensive revolution is missing players" This is such a laughably bad take that I will disprove by listing the 2023 season PFF grades of every single starter on the USC defense. For reference, a PFF grade of 60 is considered average.
DL Bear Alexander: 64.2 overall grade; 64.9 run defense grade; 71.3 pressure grade
DL Nate Clifton: 67.4 overall grade; 72.9 run defense grade; 61.5 pressure grade
DE Braylan Shelby: 71.3 overall grade; 73.5 run defense grade; 72.8 pressure grade
DE Jamil Muhammad: 65.4 overall grade; 66.1 run defense grade; 72.8 pressure grade
LB Eric Gentry: 71.0 overall grade; 72.8 run defense grade
LB Easton Mascarenas-Arnold: 66.4 overall grade; 78.5 run defense grade
CB Jacobe Covington: 81.0 overall grade; 83.2 coverage grade; 70.7 run defense grade
CB John Humphrey: 79.0 overall grade; 77.8 coverage grade; 79.1 run defense grade
NB Greedy Vance Jr: 80.3 coverage grade; 77.0 run defense grade
S Akili Arnold: 80.3 overall grade; 85.7 coverage grade; 65.0 run defense grade
S Kamari Ramsey: 80.2 overall grade; 77.7 coverage grade; 83.8 run defense grade
As you can see, there is not a single starter on USC's CURRENT defense that has a below average grade not only overall, but also in the relevant subcategories. We also have an entire spring portal window to add more players. Do your homework Josh.
all I'll say is, gotta have a 2nd team whose ratings are considered average to have a good defense. those guy need rest and if the back ups can't get it done then they're missing players
@@HotLikePu94
USC Second Team Defense:
DL Devan Thompkins: 66.6 overall; 57.1 rdef; 75.2 pressure
DL Elijah Hughes: 60.3 overall; 61.1 rdef; 57.8 pressure
DE Sam Greene: 68.6 overall; 65.6 rdef; 71.6 pressure
DE Anthony Lucas: 59.6 overall; 49.3 rdef; 65.5 pressure
LB Raesjon Davis: 60.9 overall
LB Mason Cobb: 52.4 overall
CB DeCarlos Nicholson: 71.3 overall; 69.3 cov; 78.0 rdef
CB Prophet Brown: 64.3 overall; 63.3 cov; 66.6 rdef
NB Jaylin Smith: 64.3 overall; 63.4 cov; 59.7 rdef
S Zion Branch: 71.9 overall; 60.3 cov; 89.9 rdef
S Anthony Beavers Jr: 70.4 overall; 64.6 cov; 77.1 rdef
Only two below average players on this list, and this list doesn't even include true freshmen. Hope this clarifies things.
yeah but the first team only has a couple players who actually grade out well, the majority of first team grades to be a 2nd team player. I mean you might have good individuals but the team defense speaks for itself.... not good. they grade overall to be an average defense and average defense looks terrible against good offense. you need some players who grade out in above 80s at each position for good defense.
@@HotLikePu94lmao bro what are you talking about he gave you the actual PFF grades which every starter clearly has a high grade. Please relook at what he wrote and stop responding with emotions
@@Rob_uno and every single good defense (top 25) has players across the board who grade out something above 85. USC has 2 players with 80 and one who just got there all in the secondary, okay that's an average defense. get some players who grade well in the front 7 and it'll start to get better. and he said 60 is average that's not a high grade, it's average. uga has guys all over with 84 grades, Bama had players last year who were near 90s, Michigan was the same. I wouldn't be proud of average... on a literal grading scale it would be a D
I don’t remember DJ ever being consistent.
when is Pate State gonna go to Norman???
Unconquered rings 😂😂😂
Go to Norman!!
I get that he can go to more schools in the South because the area is more dense, but it’d be nice to see Josh go west of Missouri. There’s more to CFB than the South.
Unreal do your research on all the moves USC not just LR made, Mr. COMMISSIONER. Im officially convinced you dont like USC. SMH
Kinda nuts he thinks the defense of usc will be sub par.. i mean it definitely could happen with the lack of the trench play and possibly qb play(ints). But come on… we’ll be par 😂 ✌️8-5 again whoooo!
The USC defense will be sub par. An improvement from the dumpster fire that was last year's defense. Par for USC should be mid P4 (~30). Considering they were 100+ last year and didn't exactly win the recruiting battle, I would find it extremely surprising if they are T25 next year. That being said, these B1G offenses never cease to amaze me with their ineptitude so we’ll see.
That lack of run defense WILL NOT get fixed overnight and that's gonna hurt more in the big ten than it ever did in the pac 12
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Pate! Thanks for the starting paper pop… it’s like tuning the guitar first then slaying it.
I was in love with warren in 22 and the reason i didnt care that cade got hurt. Then i was disappointed in his seeming regression last year. Loved seeing him play well saturday. That being said i still think its jack tuttles job to lose once hes healthy.
I don’t know how you can say it’s going to take multiple years for Lynn have an above average defense at USC when he was able to take UCLA from an 87th ranked defense in 2022 to a top 10 ranked defense in 2023 with a top 2 run defense. All without major staff or player changes. And he did it starting in February.
agreed usc is a turn key program. they always have the players for a quick turnaround
@@cory2023do they though?? Do they?! They’re a program but a turn-key program…..smh….theyre a program that has about 3-4 great players and has zero depth whatsoever. That’s one thing USC is known for! They’re ALWAYS top heavy with zero depth, hence, ND broke your entire programs soul last year! That was by far, the softest USC team I’ve EVER seen!

Going to blame QuickTrip’s comments made earlier this week on why Josh decided to not cover the A&M spring game. Or Josh is like me and he only learned that Nick Scourton is the real deal and A&M desperately needs some more WRs.😂
Hahahaha
Well, Clemson has been hit with the transfer disease. Zack Owens R-Freshman OL, and Adam Kissayi Early enrolled Freshman DE. Both whom I saw in the spring game and said they will become big time contributors to both respective positions. Zach Owens would’ve been a huge asset in Coach Luke’s revamping of the OL. Adam Kissayi would’ve been a huge help on the Defensive front. I don’t know who got to them, and fed them a horse trough of bull junk, but if this isn’t tampering with another school’s roster, then I don’t know what to call it. Now the big question has to be asked of Coach, will he jump into the portal to fill in the gaps with players who not only want to be part of a process to build a Championship Team, but want to build a college hall of fame career with that team and school. I guess time will tell won’t it.
Josh always say that results on the field HAVE to matter. This is why some people can believe you were told to change your tune on Florida State. Make it make sense that results didn’t matter. Maddening.
If Davis Warren would've never gotten leukemia, who knows how good he would be.
May we please get a SC spring game reaction. Thank you
You got no complaints from me, josh about how the orange bowl situation and the committee was handled. What I don't appreciate is the opposing fanbases taking a chance to steal mascots, take pot shots and insult us directly, as if our soils don't immediately mix together through the water table. Those fanbases know who they are, we don't need to name them, but we can certainly demand that they know their own places and check themselves before well, you know the rest of that overused saying.

In 2009, my team came within a hair's breath of playing for a national title. We lost in the SEC Championship game and wound up, instead of playing for a championship, taking on Utah in the Sugar Bowl. And we got our -sses beat. Ive never felt so bad as a Bama fan as i did watching that game, because i saw MY TEAM just give up. No care, no nothin- just get us off field and go home. It was pathetic and bot what i expected from my team. FSU was in a similar situation last season and di exactly what we did. They quit. Folded. Cashed in and just couldnt wait to get off the field. And wow, what a blown opportunity to show everyone, huh? Maybe some - not all, but some- of the fan vitriol ahould be focused inward on their own program instead of outward at everyone else... FSU’s “13-0 ring” is the equivalent of a college level participation trophy. I don’t wanna hear “that wasn’t the 2023 team in the orange bowl”. Who was it then? They shoulda showed up and balled out to PROVE how “wrong the committee got it”.
Instead, they threw a pouty-baby-fit, showed up to the game ill prepared, and proceeded to get their bell rang by a team that showed up TO PROVE HOW WRONG THEY THOUGHT THE COMMITTEE GOT IT.
FSU’s whole “we had too many people sit out” excuse is weak. Georgia played the same game for the same “reward”.
They didn’t need to prove anything after they won every game, UGA lost ✌️
Well we know who the SEspnC homer is. Your own damn coach said the team they played was not the team that went 13-0. So go bark in someone else face dog
FSU never lost a game
It's almost like you didn't even watch the USC spring game. No, they didn't look like the 85 Bears and no defense will in it's first year under a new scheme, let alone in a spring game but if what we saw on Saturday is what's to come this season, we will be above average, not below. Between this take and one where you didn't list USC as a top 5 improved defensive staff, it's starting to feel like you hate USC.
Damn Josh, no A&M coverage? Actually, i appreciate it. The less attention we get, the better we do during the season.
I'm not an FSU fan at all, but that backpedal segment at the end was just putrid. We've seen the old tweets, Josh. Please stop lying. Have some integrity and just admit you're a lifelong Alabama fan who loves Nick Saban and wanted him in the playoff over FSU. Reframing the situation as if you're some kind of straight shooter who was just being "completely honest" about the situation despite flip flopping multiple times is peak clown level content. Do better.
There is no argument 'bout BAMA in 1966. BEAR was denied 'cause he had "an all white team."
fsu fans are the biggest babies in the country lol
If that happened to your team you’d be doing the same bot
Dismissing FSU fans as conspiracy theorists is unfair. Josh Pate, Greg McElroy, and JD Pickell were 3 of the biggest cheerleaders of FSU rumbling past adversity and stating it would be wrong to leave FSU out right up until 5 minutes before/after Selection Sunday. “Just keep winning your games!”
It was a massive sense of betrayal to have them switch so easily from defiantly righteous about their philosophy of what college football should be before the final four to “the committee got it right.” At least Josh has owned it in his own way instead of continuing to dig himself deeper in the hypocrite hole.
FSU fans are just as if not in some cases the most hypocritical here. They keep screaming "the results on the field should matter" yet they dismiss how abysmally they played the last few games and as an even bigger travesty act like they didn't ruin a bowl game and put themselves in the college football record books in one of the worst ways (biggest bowl loss in bowl history). They can whine all they want to about so and so didn't play but GA had a lot of players out also (not as many starters but just as many significant "depth" guys). It was so bad Georgia's 3rd/4th stringers were scoring on FSU's 2nd string in some cases. That sucks so many starters were out but if the backups suck there's why you don't patch a team together through the portal. FSU finally saw in the OB what Colorado came to realize over their whole season. If more of the players who "quit" on FSU had been recruits it still would have been a blowout in the OB but it wouldn't have been so bad. Part timers will always be part timers and never give you a full time effort.
@@senpaiofsavage3072
Wow, spoken like someone who has not actually paid attention to FSU closely in any way last season and just has issues with the concept of the transfer portal and NIL. None of your response really addressed any of my points.
Ok, so you’re equating the quality of Georgias backups with FSUs backups. That would be a good point if Georgia hasn’t been top dog for years and their depth chart wasn’t entirely 4* and higher recruits. FSU is the team making the comeback from losing seasons a short while ago and does not have the pedigree to match that kind of depth of recruiting with Georgia. So yes, a mix of recruiting and portal is where the roadmap for success has been.
The whole playoff debate on FSU is so tiresome. As a Tennessee fan who has no love for anything Alabama, Bama deserved that fourth spot ahead of FSU this last year. There's not even a debate on whether Jordan Travis should factor into the decision. An undefeated FSU ACC-champion WITH Travis should have still been put behind a Bama team that beat the #1 UGA team on a neutral field. The W/L record is not the end-all be-all, nor is the betting odds market. The correct answer is somewhere in between, and the committee got this year correct. It was a hard pill to swallow, but salty FSU fans need to get over and come to terms with the fact that unless they romped through the ACC in 2023 like a juggernaut, they weren't deserving of a spot, Travis or no Travis. And they didn't... they were the best team in a conference full of mediocrity and scrubs, and they weren't heads above them like a playoff team should have been in that scenario. FSU was a borderline top 10 team who played in the worst conference - an undefeated record with mediocre margins of victory does not make for a 4-team playoff resume.

@@The08linkin Yeah so what? He was winning while he was there. Ryan Day is winning now. The comparison to coaches who are struggling to pull out 7 wins consistently shouldn't be made. What are they going to do now if Day wins a ring? Some FSU fans hate you, myself included, because you are a hypocrite. You admit you changed your opinion to say the committee got it right.. but you don't even believe that either because you've went against the opinion that those were the 4 best teams as well.
