How to check your mix in mono |

Welcome to my channel where I share music production tips and tricks to help you take your mixes to the next level. In this video, I'm going to explain why you should be checking your mixes in mono and show you how to fix out of phase sounds.
By turning the stereo separation knob on your master track to the right, you can listen to your mix in mono and quickly identify any sounds that are not as prominent. But, it's not enough to just listen for it. We need to open up SPAN Plus and check the correlation meter to see if the sound is out of phase.
If the correlation meter bleeds to the left at all, then we need to fix it. The solution is to use a mid-side EQ. We can find this in Patcher by going to presets and selecting the mid-side EQ. The top of the EQ controls the stereo frequencies or "sides," while the bottom controls the middle.
To fix the issue, we need to take a little bit off the low end so the correlation will only bleed to the right. We repeat this process for all the instruments, checking the correlation meter each time. Once everything is in phase, we can check our mix in mono again.
