They're not going to do that because that's how that city's getting its tourists, therefore, money injected into the city's economy. That's the whole reason why the city is famous, because of the deer population and people from around the world coming to that city to buy food and feed the deer population.

I've been there and a lot of the shop owners chased the deer away with sticks and such, i think they saw them more as pests. im not saying thats true of all the shop owners but i saw a lot of shooing away lol

You guys shouldn't do that. And I only say it for the deer. In brown county in Indiana, people were feeding the deer in the winter time. There were hundreds. And not all were fully grown. I heard later on they opened a special hunt to thin them down. It was sad. If the people weren't doing this, they wouldn't keep coming back to that spot with people around. And maybe then the people wouldn't see how many there were. And they were real hungry too. They looked underfed to me. I mean I know they do this. But it was really sad to think about it being for most of the younger ones lives.
It's different in Japan as they encourage you to feed them and pet them. There Nara deer are considered national treasures (for a while it was illegal to kill one) and there are a ton of vendors around selling a dozen deer biscuits for a dollar for tourists to feed them with. Looks like they're all pretty well fed to me.
