- One of the biggest highlights of my Greece trip was that I got to hike Mount Olympus. Yes, you read right - Mount Olympus that is home to the Olympian gods. It’s about 1.5 hours from Thessaloniki in the north of Greece, and a natural stop if you’re heading south to Athens.
Mount Olympus has 52 peaks, but the highest one is called Mytikas, which is 2,918 meters above sea level and requires some scrambling and climbing to reach. I ended up booking a tour as I was travelling Solo (more information in the guide linked below) and it was not as challenging as I thought and an absolute bucket list hike!

Hi! Nice video. However there is a mistake. The refuge you stayed in is Giosos Apostolisis. The refuge in your text says refuge A (Spilios Agapitos) is 2h further. And the hike to mitikas from there is 3-5h.
Thank you! 🙏
Hi, out of curiosity, what month of the year did you hike Mt Olympus?
I hiked in July!
amazing video , i wil go there next week. but i coudnt have booking refuge. is it ok? just go there with out refuge?
If you start early in the day and hike fast in general, it’s doable in one day. I’d suggest skipping the peak unless you’ve scrambling experience
Great!
But I would like to know whether hiking nowadays of these countries is ok, since Greece, Italy, Spain have seemed being in a dangerously hot weather, over 40-45’C…
I would say no for Greece and Spain as the mountains have wildfire sometimes in extreme heat. Italy in the north altitude is higher so it can be cooler - best to watch the news and inquire at local tours and accommodation
Many thanks!
Great adventure! What month did you hike? Is it possible to hike in the month of May? Thanks!
I did it in August, I think May might still be a bit cold!
Hey is it possible to hike here in late February or early March
Yes - but if you are not experienced with hiking (and in the cold), i'd recommend hiring a guide/joining a tour.
Great , but sometimes you speak too fast. Really enjoyed it however!
haha I do speak too fast but glad you find it enjoyable still!
