  • Smith & Wesson Historian Mike Helms joins Guns & Gear’s Ryan Gresham in the studio to check out the Smith & Wesson .38 Military and Police (M&P) revolver. Originally released in 1899, this gun not only introduced the K-Frame and the M&P line, but was the first .38 Special revolver as well.

Can you maybe do one on the s&w model 40 .38spl with the grip safety? I was always fascinated with them but was never able to pick one up.

Growing up my grandfather would make wax bullets for his revolvers so us boys could target practice in the alley behind his house in the north end of Kansas city, today I still pack a model 15 combat masterpiece stoked with FBI load and I own many auto loaders.

Not that one would want to but I wonder how that old timer would stand up to today's 38spl. ammo?

Smith and Wesson makes a gun that resembles the shape of the gun in the video, however it is not the same gun!

It was so under powered that Police were being killed in gun fights. This lead to the development of yhe 357 magnum. It was sent to J Edger Hover hoping he would adopt it as a national standard to save police lives. The 44 special the 38 replaced was a better gun.
