  • Reference Monitoring in the Hotel Suite - A Neumann Video Documentation
    The StrandGut Resort in St. Peter-Ording on the German North Sea coast not only welcomes musically prolific guests, but upon request, it even provides them with Neumann KH 150 studio monitors, a subwoofer, headphones, and a U 87 microphone for songwriting and music production in one of its in-house suites at no additional charge. Complemented - and thus perfected - by the Automatic Monitor Alignment System MA 1, which allows for quick calibration of the monitor system to the room. A short video documentary, now available on the Neumann CZcams channel (LINK), showcases the workflow and the surprisingly professional results that can be achieved far away from a professional recording studio.
    The automatic calibration allows switching between different suites and rooms at the StrandGut Resort without the respective acoustic conditions affecting an objective sound assessment. If Neumann monitors with the MA 1 are also installed in the studio at home, a seamless transition between the studio and hotel suite is possible without having to revisit a mix.
    Many celebrities have already discovered this place's magic for themselves, and music artists, in particular, appreciate staying at the StrandGut Resort. The relaxed atmosphere invites thoughts to unfold freely, and any potential writer’s blocks resolve as if by themselves - creative ideas come and go like the sea's tides.
    Thank you to the StrandGut Hotel in St. Peter Ording and hotelier Karsten Werner for their hospitality and Phil Siemers & Debby Smith for and their collaboration.

    Eine Frage zum Setup:
    Geht es bei der Verbindung mit dem Switch nur um die Kommunikation zwischen den Monitoren und dem Computer oder muss der Switch auch mit dem Internet verbunden sein? Irgendwie doch nicht ganz so einfach...

    Hi! I have a quick question, can I do this calibration while connecting my speakers to my interface via SPDIF cables? I can't really adjust my output level while using SPDIF so it can be very loud at unity with the acoustic controls disabled when in Network mode.
    Thanks!

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  Před měsícem

      Yes, measurement via SPFIF connection is generally possible with MA 1. The level of the incoming signal is checked before the measurement. The speakers are muted during this test. If this test is successful, the alignment process can also be carried out with this level. Of course, volume control on the audio interface or monitor controller is always useful.

    In a multi-room facility, will we have to buy several software licenses (and accomponying mic) for the calibration, or is it a set and forget system?

      Hello, there are no silly questions!
      You can also use the MA 1 for home theater or "just" for listening to music. In the end, you'll have to decide for yourself how much value you place on it.😊

    Just a question - could i purchase a 750dsp and the ma 1, and run non neumann analog monitors with this setup until im able to purchase kh310s?

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The MA 1 generally only works with Neumann monitors. You can also connect analog speakers to the KH 750, but you have to select that they are either KH120, 310 or 420. The newer KH 120 II, KH 150 and KH 80 DSP already have their DSP built in. They will also work without the KH 750 DSP with MA1.

    Loved the video! Just a question: using this correction on my Newmann speakers will not affect my cpu usage ? I have to leave sonarworks because of that.

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  Před měsícem

      Hey there! Thank you :). MA 1 will not affect the CPU usage 😊
      Once you go through the process with the MA 1 software/microphone, the DSP gets pushed onto the speakers directly via the ethernet connection. As this gets stored onto the speaker directly, there’s no CPU utilization at all. (It does utilize a tiny bit of Disc space though - the calibration data also gets stored locally in a hidden directory. But it’s not much and utilizes no memory.)

    The image is slightly left after calibrating a few times. I switched speakers and moved around the sub but haven’t had luck. If I go to local mode and increase the left monitor 1.5dB, the image is good. Is there a way to adjust speakers manually while still using the correction? Spent $4k on this setup so the lack of controls is disappointing.

    • @GeorgNeumannGmbH
      @GeorgNeumannGmbH  Před 6 měsíci

      We are working on incorporating this feature in the future!
      Normally, the stereo center should be centered after calibration. This is either due to an error during calibration (or slight hearing damage can cause such an impression). At the moment, you can only change the balance in the software mixer of your audio interface.

    • @tobiasjansen9117
      @tobiasjansen9117 Před 6 měsíci

      I got a second and third opinion, so I do not think it is due to hearing damage. I have calibrated multiple times now. Is it possible the room is causing this? Glad they are working on this feature!

    • @Hexspa
      @Hexspa Před 3 měsíci

      @@tobiasjansen9117 How symmetrical is your room from your ears forward? Acoustic effects from asymmetry affect the stereo image. Adjusting the relative gain is fine, that's what most pan knobs do anyway. Just make sure your stereo image translates to other speakers as well.

      You can easily switch between the DSP and manual settings either through a switch located on the back of the speakers or by using the MA-1 software. The process is quick and easy, but once you experience the benefits of the MA-1, you may not want to switch back. ;-) @@chrissssssss007
