Promoting Equitable Gender Norms to Foster Democratic Resilience

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, the governments of Sweden and Romania, and International IDEA hosted an event ahead of the second Summit for Democracy to highlight the need for full and meaningful political participation and leadership of diverse women and girls. Global leaders and policymakers emphasized the connection between gender equality and democracy and announced USAID’s launch of a new Network for Gender-Inclusive Democracy.
“Democracies cannot succeed without the full and equal participation of all of its citizens including women,” said Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff.
