Wonderful class! You are both teaching HOW to think about the world and that is revolutionary. 1:05 to 1:20 was such an insightful overview of "social vs governance." The framing we are indoctrinated with. Saw David Brooks and Eddie Glaude Jr. interviewed together yesterday. The better angels optimism (Brooks)/ avoiding the truth realism (GlaudeJr) binary remains.
Also wanted to mention CSPAN has a 2009 interview with Kenji Yoshino on this idea of "Covering". Thanks for that reference. Also wanted to go back to Ep87 and mention that it caused me to revisit Guru's 1995 Jazzmatazz Vol 2. album. It really captures what you and Dr Carr speak about in terms of artistic content of self-critique that inspires uplift and building together for a better future. Track 17 with Bahamadia is "Respect the Architect." Fitting. Need more of that! Thanks for all you do.

My parents were Missionaries to Monrovia Liberia W Africa from Philly my hometown.
When I was 13 years old my parents took my entire family aboard the SS African Dawn July 1975. We sailed from Manhattan to Monrovia. The Captain showed me on the Navigation Map the same route the slave ships took. I still remember that.
My dad taught at the Carver Foriegn Missionary Bible Institute which was located on a hilltop over looking the Ocean and the Evangelical radio station E.L.W.A. My parents never discussed "white supremacy". I grew up not knowing alot. Through Dr Greg Carr, Roland Martin Show, Dr Claud Anderson, Pastor Fred Price on Race/Religion/Racism I've learned so much!

Dr. Carr blew me away with his "verbal machine gun and murders everything moving" metaphor. Can I use that please? Also I loved the short detour taken into the subject of passing and Adam Clayton Powell. But when he quotes Jacob Hudson Carruthers' Science and Depression essay (where can I find that?) "This is how the West works. The West has constructed a theory of perpetual progress with itself as the driving engine of human progress. And whenever you experience something different than that, they have a reserve theory of progress in their back pocket to put on you to make you think [what you see happening ain't really happening.) (my words not his cuz he kinda got offtrack)--brilliant!
The vision shown by Prof Hunter to start this and the commitment of Dr. Carr to join her and teach like this for 88 weeks straight, not to mention all the time given in so many other ways, is what it will take to free us. Why are they the only two? Where are all the other AA Intellectuals?

Great Rising to you Professor Karen and Dr. Carr. I watched the movie "Passing" it made me think about the movie "Imitations of Life" when the notion of self hate is discussed in the Black community it only revolves around darker skinned Black people, it never occurred to me light skin and those who can pass also suffer from self indoctrinated hate. In order to pass one would have to truly hate everything about themselves and take on the identity of a complete oppressor. It was not lost on me how the one character set and laughed while her White husband openly confessed how much he hated Black people, and at the same time it was not lost on me how the other character treated her Black maid and the conversation between her White friend about the exotism that White people have for Black people. The movie "The Harder they fall" triggered me just as severely because here we go again, with Black people behaving like the oppressor against their own. Professor Karen I don't understand how the human mind works. The mind bends and it seduced into making love with the most oppressive side of it consciousness. Just my two cents. Thank you Professor Karen.
