    Golden Plexi, Sweet Cream and Tape Machine were my favorites. All the pedals sound great and a big plus is they won't take up a lot of space on a pedal board.

    Hey Steve, that's some sweet little boxes you'e got there. I also think they all sound great. You gotta love their colors and the names they came up with. Is there some sort of pedal revival? Loved the Golden Plexi, Dry Martini, Wild Fire & Mandragora flavors. Rock on!

    All of the distortion pedals sounded ... distorted. Not a lot of differences.Is each pedal supposed to mimic a certain amp?

    • @vincevirtua
      @vincevirtua Před 8 lety +1

      +seattwa they are largely reproducing more expensive pedals (as in three times the price or more). The Plexi one is a Carl Martin Marshall tone, for instance. Dry Martini is like a USA OCD pedal. Bad Horse is like a Klon KTR etc.

    Tone City also do a dual button series of pedals which are based on various amps. Their model M is immense and yes its based on a marshall amp. I dont know what the deal is in the usa but here in the uk if they break within 2 years just send them back to the dealer which in the uk is Andertons and you'll get a replacement. Thats a hell of a warranty

      To my ears the Tone City pedals are definitely not sounding more similar than other pedals in the category overdrive / booster do it, too. Maybe they do that in this video. In my opinion that is because the amp is already covering too much of the sound so there remains too little space for the pedal to show it´s real sound capacities.If you take the time you´d find out, that already very little pot movements lead to different sounds and dynamic response - if you put them in front of a good sounding clean amp. Then you´d find out how well these are made and many nuances between the pedals. Only a very, very little amount of amps (and myself had a lot of amps of all kind of brands over the years) do take pedals really (!) good. So - if your amp does - you´d be happy with these pedals. The price is rediculous for this kind of quality. With the Kaffir Lime for example I got the best clean sound that I ever had. Really precious and a wonderful dynamics.
      From the Tone City company I own these pedals : Golden Plexi (2x), Model M, Model B , Black Tea (2x), Kaffir Lime, Bad Horse, Sweet Cream, Tremble.
      They are on two different floorboards - and not all of them are always on the board - only Golden Plexi and Black Tea got a permanent place ...

    Ordering a Chapman guitar ML1 Hotrod soon and I get a choice of a free tone city pedal when I order from Andertons (I'm in the UK) probably gonna go with the tape delay because I got the older Blackstar HT5 head recently with no reverb and it sounds great but a little dry.

      I can't compare, one is an overdrive type and the the black tea goes more in the distortion level.
      the black horse is really a good overdrive pedal. I've played with other brand ( EHX soul food, Carl martin DC drive, Caline Orange burst ), and i always go back to the black horse. it doesn't change the tone like the EHX soul food does.

    Angel Wing, the one you playing Van Halen (Top Jimmy I believe) is the coolest sounding. There is so many pedals that do distortion that it gets very boring. I'm trying to get ones that are really different. Summer Orange (Rolling Stones tune) was also cool. 1st-Angel Wing, 2nd-Tape Machine, 3rd-Summer Orange.
