Grodin was just masterful @ this.

It's clear the respect Dave had for Charles. A master talk show guest and he really let his character come down in this one. Two master broadcasters at work!

It used to be that I thought Chuck was mostly joking with Dave. But, after reading Jason Zinoman's brilliant Letterman bio, I know that comments like the one he makes at 1:29:14 are absolutely true.
Its a shame that Clifford bombed in the box office. If they had a proper studio behind it then it would have done very well. Its a great comedy movie but the studio was in a mess
