    Very informative. Thank you so so much for Oz. Given my muso former/late husband passed away late 2016 and was teaching me to play his LP electric & resonator, sadly he had not showed me how to restring the LP or resonator (hopefully a resonator will not be as difficult). Unfortunately for his verbal bequest, I did not receive the verbally promised LP & resonator but nevertheless I purchased, I believe a better one - a very rare vintage Les Paul Studio 1999; Ferrari Red; Gold Hardware & Dot Fretboard which I am extremely happy with. Thank God one of his loyal mates supervised/helped me with advice when buying this one, so I didn't buy a fake. Your video on changing LP strings was the best I found and learnt 'How to' and 'more'.

    Very cool. Love the ninja string breaking trick at the end. A couple of things. You didn't specify (but I guess it was obvious) that you are going clockwise for the strings on one side of the guitar and counterclockwise for the strings on the other side. Also, are you putting the windings on top of the string, or underneath? A close up would have been good, but hey. Thanks a lot.

    Hey erich I have a hellraiser with a Floyd rose bridge setup, how far down can I tune down without adjusting the deck height? I have been restringing guitars for 40 plus years, and I never take all string off at one time, I restring one string at a time high e to low e and clean under each before adding new string. it may take me 30 minutes sure, but the hold tune great never slip and I don't have to reset the neck.

    Hey, maybe you know this if you dont mind me asking. I found I like "nickel" strings. My fav right now are GHS burnished nickel rockers, but I read the unwound strings are plain steel. I guess only the wrap on the wound strings is nickel. Manufacturers say "nickel" but I guess it isnt like they have to list their ingredients like food or something. What do you know about nickel strings? Are there any strings that are 100% nickel?

      +yourguitarsage I found some Gibson Vintage Reissue (VR10) strings at Guitar Center after making the guy take down a bunch of strings. They say "Pure Nickel" so I got a couple sets. My fav are still the Burnished Nickel Rockers, but I'll try these Gibsons and see what they are like.

  • @Hotitalianman
    @Hotitalianman Před 4 lety

    Bend it toward the middle of the head stock not outside. Also, you should pull it one fret toward the bridge a after you thread it through the peg.. That's enough winds. I would do 1 string at a time to not take tension off neck and then you might have your neck go out and then buzzing occurs..unless you want to clean the fretboard..then ignore what I said. Or else .you have to adjust truss rod and all that comes into effect.

      Have you ever restrung a Les Paul before? It's a big deal. I had an Ibanez for years as my only guitar and I love how easy it is to change strings on it because it's through body. My first Les Paul was a major hassle for me to learn how to do this properly. I'd say it takes a long time to do it right and that's only if you can remember how, which I never can. Then you have differing opinions on how to do it best, like people saying don't change the strings all at once or it affects the neck. He says you can. Who knows who is right until you find out for yourself through experimenting? And so on. I followed this video as instructions before and it worked out great. I highly recommend it. Unless you like taking your guitar into the shop.

  • @Patsik
    @Patsik Před 8 lety +2

    Too much work lol!
    I change them one by one in this order:
    6 - 1 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 3
    To keep the tension on the neck. So it won't reset to another angle after restringing. (if that happens)
    I heard classical guitars should be restring like this.

    I'm quite confident that you forgot a step, that you didn't put the ''honey'' on the fret board in the video. Honestly though I somehow doubt of the need for it in the first place. Maybe if you want to keep your guitar for 45 years that would be a good idea but again there's many other things to worry about before worrying about the honeyness of the neck.

    Strings don't "stretch", as most people envisage them "stretching". There is a common misconception that they require to be "stretched " in order to reach some kind of equilibrium, but that perception is totally fallacious.
    When you pull on the string and the pitch lowers, what is happening is that the windings on the tuner post are settling in, and on an acoustic guitar perhaps the ball end is sitting tighter against the bridgeplate, but the string itself is not deforming in any way.

    You need to loosen the strings before you cut them. Because cutting them at full tension will harm both yourself and the guitar because strings are like scorpion tails you could prick your hand or lose and eye. Also that shock can be harmful to the neck as it will create a shock to the neck that could cause damage. Loosen the strings first them cut them.
