  • Carb cleaning - the most boring thing to do in the WORLD, and the most boring video, I was waiting for an explosion or something to make this exciting but nothing happened. Sorry in advance for the lack of action.

    1:43 I'm pretty sure that's not fuel in, it's actually COOLANT in and out for the carb warming circuit.

    So i have a Diaphragm and slide from my 40mm Harley Davidson carb sitting on my desk. But i would say (obviously i can't be sure on exact dimensions) that my Harley 40mm cv carb slide and diaphragm is identical to the one you just pulled out of your ER 500.

      Pony Power It was a bit boring, but only because I know enough about carbs already. Stil niformative and looking forward to hearing/seeing this one up and running!
      Got my trike firing on the button now btw. There was a wiring gremlin in one of the connector blocks that needed a lesson or 2.

    need some info,,,i warm bike up,when i shift into gear the bike cuts out,(is it a problem with the side stand?)im nonplused any info might help,er 500 c-5.

      +anthony hyatt - sounds like it too me mate, there's sometimes a clutch swith, which I think your year had. There's a series of circuits that stop people riding off like idiots, they include the side stand switch, clutch switch and sometime the neutral switch aswell but in this case I don't think you need to worry.

    love the video that has shown a novice how to clean the carbs.. thank you. my problem now is when i start the bike fuel fills up the airbox and out of the drain... any ideas whats wrong?

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  Před 7 lety +1

      your float valve is getting stuck, the fuel bowl overflows and spills into the airbox. If its alot then it would have made its way into your engine and diluted your oil. Take off your oil filler and give it a smell when the engine is warm. If it blows your head off with petrol fumes then replace your oil as well. - matt

    • @adekeys
      @adekeys Před 7 lety

      The Workshop ok replace the float valves and now the bike will run just but fuel is still pouring out...

    • @adekeys
      @adekeys Před 7 lety

      ok so changed both float valves and its still filling up the airbox.. was told i need to adjust the float level and i have done that using the static method as describe in the haynes manual of just holding the carb at 45 degrees and measure from carb body to height of carb float. both are exactly 17mm to which the book says 17+-2mm. So kind of stuck again. Any more ideas ?

      carbs have a vent to the outside world from the fuel bowl, without this the fuel bowl keeps on filling until it overflows through the main jet, check that the vent isn't restricted. You also need to check what seting in on your fuel tap, some aftermarket taps have a prime setting.

      Only pipes I have are the water connectors on the bottom the fuel inlet pipe and the 2 into 1 pipe at the top. Will check this too pipe with a airline tomorrow as currently raining hard here. Many thanks for the help. Might be back with any updates 👍👍

    • @dirtygarageguy
      @dirtygarageguy  Před 6 lety

      Which vacuum pipe? The one from the fuel tap or the carbs?

    •  Před 6 lety

      we got a gpz500 in pieces so we werent sure what goes where. but we just solved it. I was wondering about the vacuum hose going from intake manifold to the vacuum petcock. Thank you for the videos. they really helped

    Just a tip you can order new diaphragms for a lot of old bikes (including ER-5) here!
    www.motorradbay.de/er5-1357208_-diaphragm__libranen__piston-kawasaki-p-2385-4.html
    They are not OEM but are pretty much identical in quality and fit.
