    Thanks so much for normalizing this for women! I don't feel scared of having cancer as I've come to a place of acceptance of that possibility but I feel oddly stressed by being in limbo--I just want to know!

    I had a biopsy 2 weeks ago, had to wait 10 days …
    in the end, it was benign, but the wait was certainly a rollercoaster.
    I had multiple panic attacks.
    working was the most efficient way for me not to think about the result.

    Today, in about 2 hours, I'll get my biopsy results. Right after the biopsy I was rather hopeful. I told myself "a biopsy is not a cancer" and took comfort in the fact that most biopsies come back showing benign changes. The nearer I was to the results "deadline" - what a fitting term! - the more agitated I became. And the moment the clinic called me, saying the results had arrived and invited me to a consultation with a doctor who would explain the pathology report to me - I fell into pieces. I suddenly grew sure I had a breast cancer and would have a mastectomy and possibly chemo or radiation. All the worst case scenarios were unleashed. Now I am soothing myself with this great video and some music. Walking and being physically active, as you said, helped me too.

      Update?

    • @Anna_Rozanska
      @Anna_Rozanska Před 5 měsíci

      @@dawncape5877Thanks for asking. It turned out to be only healthy breast tissue with interspersed microcalcifications. Probably some residues left from breastfeeding (?). I felt as much relieved as I felt angry. It seems the most imprecise branch of medicine I have ever encountered. So many biopsies coming back healthy or benign. Some sources say 80% of women subjected to biopsy learn upon receiving their results that it was nothing to worry about. And yet, I still have a hard lump in my breast that hurts when pressed - the remains of a hematoma that formed at the biopsy site regardless of cold compresses in the first 48 hours. It is an ugly reminder of what I went through, seemingly for no reason. I wonder if I had taken my mammography pictures to another doctor, would he have downgraded their BI-RADS score? I got BI-RADS 4B, but I read about people who were moved down the scale to BI-RADS 3 or 2 in other mammography centres and thus spared from biopsy. I was shocked and scared and didn't have the wits to ask for a second opinion. The only good thing is I grew wiser (and silver-haired).

    My biopsy was horrible, 45min without moving. 10 medicine students assisted my biopsy procedure. I was exhausted, half of my body which I laid on was sore and couldn't move it after all. I started to cry because I had an impression that I was falling down from the bed to the floor. Traumatic experience 😢

    I cooked for a friend at church who was recovering from a surgery for Chiari malformation. Sometimes when we help others, it's helping us feel better. It gets our mind off of our own issues and makes us feel good that we're helping someone ELSE.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  Před 6 měsíci

      Absolutely, helping others can be incredibly therapeutic. Study after study shows that helping others gives us the same (if not more) benefit. It not only provides practical assistance but also allows us to shift our focus away from our own worries and find fulfillment in supporting someone else. It's a beautiful reminder of the interconnectedness of humanity and the power of compassion. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Yerbba community!

I have been waiting 2 weeks for another ultrasound on this lump, if it is malignant, another biopsy will be done. Hoping that it’s not malignant. To easy my stress I excercised and did a few spring wreaths to keep me occupied. It’s at night time when your brain just runs into all scenarios. Keep strong,

    I could second the gentle recommendation of accepting oral or twilight anesthesia. Before submitting to a core biopsy. As the probe needle can be painful. You will experience soreness, swelling and bruising afterwards. Do not allow yourself to experience fear, dread and anxiety. Having to undergo this necessary procedure. Sure wish I had. Also prepare to treat the after results with a small icepack tucked into your bra. It can help. Releav swelling and bruising.

    How common is it for sisters to both get breast cancer? I was diagnosed with stage I Invasive ductal carcinoma ten months ago. My sister is going through dcis now. Both in 60s Paternal grandmother had breast cancer as did 3 of her 5 sisters-when in 50s/60s. No first degree relatives have had it except us.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  Před 9 měsíci

      It is not unusual for sisters both to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Even in the absence of a genetic syndrome, we do see familial cases of breast cancer. If there are other cancers in the family, this type of family history may make genetic testing appropriate.

    I had developed a 5cm hematoma after my stereotactic breast biopsy. My biopsy was positive for IDC, ErPr+, HER2-. I have since gone through double mastectomy and total area of cancer was 1.37mm from the biopsy and only residual disease after surgery (less than 1mm), so extremely early stage. Two oncologist have told me my risk of reoccurrence is extremely low and I do not need endocrine therapy, chemo and radiation but I keep coming back to that hematoma and somehow it spread the cancer. Is there any research on this? Both the oncologist said no evidence a hematoma after a biopsy spreads cancer, but I can’t get it out of my mind.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Such a good question, and you are not alone is asking it. There is no relationship between having a hematoma and the risk of recurrence. A hematoma forms when there is a cavity, or space, left after surgery. Have you heard the expression, "Nature abhors a vacuum"? Your body will fill in any space that's left, sometimes with fluid (which leads to a seroma) and sometimes with blood (which leads to a hematoma). After a bilateral mastectomy with such a small amount of disease, there is no remaining breast tissue "at risk" to be protected by radiation therapy and endocrine therapy. We hope this is helpful.

    I'm having a biopsy this Tuesday due to BIRADS 4 suspicious fine calcifications in the right breast; 2 groups of suspicious fine calcifications to be exact, and both groups are being biopsied. 😫😩😫 I've had a biopsy done before in 2019 on my left breast due to a group of BIRADS 4 suspicious calcifications after my first mammo at 40 yrs old. It came back benign (fibrocystic breast changes), so I know what to expect during the procedure. I'm just dreading the "wait" afterwards. 😔😔😔

    I've had 4 now 5 BIRAD 4 AND 5 DX and multiple bilateral lumpectomies. I'm currently waiting to meet with my surgeon and i have a large mass with a birads 4 nammo and ultrasound with very significant differences from the previous. I'm 54 post menopausal with five children and 13 grand children. I want a total mastectomy. Is my request unusual or out of line? I have a lot of health issues and I just can't.

    • @yerbba
      @yerbba  Před 4 měsíci

      The multiple biopsies may be making the imaging more difficult to read. If any of the previous biopsies have shown atypia (some abnormalities but not cancer), there may be a role for the use of tamoxifen to decrease the so-called "busy-ness" of the breast tissue. While mastectomy is not standard in this case, talking this over with your surgeon makes a lot of sense.
