  • And because we are in the wedding season, I attended a wedding near the Shehu’s palace (Shehu of Borno 👑) where they brought the Ganga Kura to celebrate the moments and o thought of sharing it with you, culture is indeed beautiful, I trust you you will enjoy every bit of the video!!!
Ganga Kura is a traditional Music of the Kanuri tribe from Borno State. “Ganga” means Drum while “Kura” means Big.
The Kanuri musical instrument comprises the trumpet, flute, and the traditional drum, they normally have costumes which is called “Gmaje Kanuri” together with the dancing shoes, the dance is called MALIKI DANCE. As you can see the beat synchronize with the step of the dancers, where both men and women dance eloquently in a circular manner to the sound of the Ganga Kura, each sound is released with a sensational rhythm that tells a story or is tagged to a certain royal house which carries a different step for that.
In the olden days, this dance is done by young men and women pairing up to make seductive moments in complex formations, they all incorporate tests of strength, great feats or acts, and endurance the young men have to demonstrate the ability to endure while displaying their physical beauty for the female dancers to access and decide whether they like them or not to chase them as a mate.
What do you know about your traditional dance? Don’t you find the culture fascinating?
Tell me in the comments below if you enjoy this video, thank you, and see you in the next one!!!

I’m neither of the two, I’m Babur, a tribe from southern Borno State.

@@usamamusa5385 yes but Kanuri and Hausa are more related. They both have Nilotic origins in Lake Chad from the Kanem-bornu empire. They are both tall, dark and have slender bodies. They also share cultural and musical traditions like horse riding and blowing of trumpets, similar to the people of Chad and western Sudan.
